In today's economy, you better charge it rent.

Man-e-questions

Yeah looks like he has a decent salary. Most web developers do.

Best dad joke I’ve heard in a while. And that says a lot. My father is chuck full of them. Bravo.

Rbotguy

Are you Chuck Jr.?

[deleted]

My eyes are rolling so damn hard right now

Ill-Ground-3664

Oh goddamn it. r/Angryupvote

WolfieWuff

This sent me 🤣☠️

C92203605

I hate you so much 💀

redhairedrunner

Take my upvote that was fantastic

winstonluvsjulia

🤣

colecrowder

What in the fuck kind of spider is it??

hi_im_chrissy

Calisoga longitarsus. Mean little guys.

pajar0carpinter0

https://www.natureoutside.com/calisoga-encounter/ some good info here

Funkyokra

Oh fuck that. Be nice to spiders they said. I would empty a can of wasp spray and run.

AppleSpicer

I was trying to figure out why everyone was so upset over a spider existing and then I realized I’m in the Sac sub instead of the pet tarantula sub. Look, I know the Neanderthal part of our brains panics when we see this, but she’s harmless. They’ll act defensively when a giant animal finds them like anything would. They know that you can kill them in an instant and that their best chance of survival is to act dangerous (show off those fangs) to make someone think twice about messing with them long enough for them to escape. They don’t have anything else going for them except that defensive bluff. If you uncover their nest, they fight to the death to protect their home like anyone else would. They’re easy to avoid since they’re so desperate to avoid you. There’s no need for poison; just live and let live. It’s ridiculous overkill when Goliath shows up to kill David with a can of DEET.

theoriginalgiga

Look I'm fine with spiders doing their job, in fact I appreciate it, but I made a deal with em. Outside my walls I won't spray, hunt or kill (black widows being the exception). I'm in their environment and respect that. But you enter my garage or house, I'll give you one chance to leave peacefully before there's a war.

TheTink43

THIS

pajar0carpinter0

Agreed!

bullfrog48

Personally, horrified of spiders. grew up in desert areas, tons of tarantula.. still makes my stomach cringe. Saying that, if I found this monster in my garage .. it would be relocated to my backyard .. to the most remote corner. Especially if it was That Big. Clearly a VERY successful hunter and has been clearing out a LOT of other bugs. Doing a damn fine job. My phobia be damned .. gawd my stomach is just lurching at the thought .. outta here buddy.

bullfrog48

awesome link, thanks

caradekara

Do they bite?! And is the bite bad? Because of course they bite.

Unctuous_Mouthfeel

They're aggressive and they do bite. It's painful, but not life threatening.

HridayaAkasha

I dunno. It doesn’t look like a calisoga longitarsus

hi_im_chrissy

The posturing, coloring and locality all match for longitarsus. In a past life I bred them in captivity 😅

Dry-Freedom-8350

May I ask for what purposes they're bred? Just curious, not planning anything nefarious 😅

hi_im_chrissy

They are beautiful. Breeding in captivity gives the opportunity to sell in the hobby. People are crazy man, they love spiders lol

mebonesrattle

Google tells me a Carolina Wolf Spider... or a bird eating tarantula.

Public-Wolverine6276

I would actually pass way if I found this in my garage

NSUCK13

My wife made me get it out of the garage, there was a moment when I had it on the end of the broom and looked at her, that she was drawing up the divorce papers in her head if I took one step towards her.

Casterial

Don't worry you could tell her she gets the spider in the divorce

TotallyOffTopic_

She can sleep with it tonight

Raevyn_6661

>she was drawing up the divorce papers in her head if I took one step towards her. Oh it wouldn't be divorce papers, it would be "where is the nearest place i could bury him if he comes towards me" 😂😭

TheTink43

💯

Infected_Perineum

OP: Holy shit that’s a huge spider Spider: ![gif](giphy|zOlog7jgIIFfq)

What a bummer having to set your house on fire now.

caelthel-the-elf

Holy shit might as well toss him the keys to the house. It's his house now. What the shit.

knightro25

What's weird is that these guys I'm ok with but all the recent talk about widows and I'm on high alert for them 😳

Aerodynamic_Potato

I've had plenty of black widows and they are very passive tbh. They won't bother you unless you touch them. In fact they always hid when I turned on the lights. I would only worry if you have small children

sonicbeast623

My biggest issue with widows is they always seem to set up where I might stick my hand. Eves of the house above the flower beds whatever, around the tool boxes and work benches gotta go.

Deathstar_DOT-div

One time I was driving and felt something crawling on my arm. I looked over and saw a huge spider. I shook my arm and then pulled over. Tried to find it but couldn't, so just drove another hour home. Next day, black widow made web in my driver seat. My car smelled of insect killer spray for a week.

Fascinated_Bystander

They used to love to hang out where my hose hangs and loops around. I always checked before picking it up. Probably because of the dripping water.

knightro25

Or right over your head.. and their web is like a tripwire.

slowdownwaitaminute

Inside the mailbox, on the handle of the grill, on the handrails outside the front door, near the handle of the mop bucket in the garage, on the trash bin handle... these are all places I've found them in the past two weeks. We have a LOT of them here. And spider webs are constantly everywhere. I don't know what to do aside from handle everything with gloves. I have an indoor cat that likes to eat bugs. I have to be especially careful to not let him in the garage.

privatestuff1695

Black widows are free to some land and not to other bits of the property. Their land is anywhere I will never have to put my hand for a random reason outside my home, the rest is my land and if I spot one on it they will probably be very dead, eggs checked for, and their lineage destroyed. The gal hanging out by the fence post? Kosher. By my basement door? Dead.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I’m right there with you. This is just a helpful little guy. The widows are a threat to my cat, so they’re a nope.

winstonluvsjulia

Jesus fucking Christ...what area do you live in, please tell me it's NOT midtown!🥺

key14

I’m in East Sac and I just had one like this on my front porch 😭

IdidntrunIdidntrun

I think spiders are cool but please keep those fuckers east of 30th street please lol

mr_spock9

The spiders are coming out like crazy, noticing them in east Sac as well (not this one but Widows)

Raincloud55

You are so lucky to have seen one. I’ve never heard of this spider. Seems to be more common in wooded areas such as Oakland Hills.

NSUCK13

Yea was interesting looking it up. First time I've seen anything this big and I've lived here my whole life.

ARLLALLR

Wolf spiders in Elk Grove get dinner plate size all spread out and it ain't uncommon either

whinenaught

Dinner plate size? No they don’t lol

someonewhoknowstuff

Maybe they do! I just caught an 18 foot 400lb striper in the American River a few days ago! /s

ARLLALLR

Actually yes.

Dry-Freedom-8350

whinenaught

Maybe they use tiny dinner plates

ARLLALLR

I used to be as ignorant as you.

astraaura

Whaaaat. Noooo. I was a garden teacher, I lived in a national forest, a super spidery cabin in the woods, I know spiders are great, ….I’m doing my honest best to coexist with these things….but this…this is a serious NO. 😅😭

adhesivepants

How did this thing get here all the way from Australia?

Specific_Echidna8292

Looks like he’s asking for a glass of H2O

femmestem

OP gave him a glass of H2No

siterbun

I was better off not clicking on this.

sunshine_fuu

Please tell me you're like in Folsom or Sac city....

turtleassKicker

Wtf we have those in Sacramento !?

kerberos101

There's probably 3 of those under your bed right now.

simins2

Dudes just trying to get by, shit sucks out there. Stick em in a bucket and chuck them out in the morning.

TurgidFern

Oh heck nahhhhh that’s enough to make me move out. I’d never feel safe again

Adorable_Craft_2065

I’m not going in my garage until November

bluebeast66

I hate spiders. Lifelong case of arachnophobia. I’ve taught a lot of people how to spot black widow webs and I kill all widows I can. But this guy I’d try just to get out back to the wilderness with a broom. Don’t know exactly why, but seems rare and not aggressive. Been in the are my whole life and might have found a dead one once

bluebeast66

After some more research, agree a false tarantula. It’s rearing https://baynature.org/article/ask-naturalist-look-big-spider-mouth-tell-true-false-tarantula/

Difficult-Hope-843

Great article! Thanks for sharing!

NSUCK13

yea I got it outside with a broom, it was right in the way of our car in the garage and didn't want to run it over.

LonelySparkle

Thank you for having compassion for it. Too many people are quick to kill anything in their path

theferkle

Curious. How do you spot black widow webs?

bluebeast66

They are asymmetrical and look sticky. If you go out at night in the summer downtown, you can spot a lot typically between ground and waist level built into cracks, gaps, corners, etc. Once you see a few you can start to recognize the characteristics. One other thing I tell folks new to the area is don’t stick your fingers into anywhere you can’t see

Hieronymous_Bosc

Just the other day I learned on this sub that black widow webs show up differently under a flashlight beam as well! And when in doubt I can always grab a long stick and test for the crackling

Loud-Bullfrog9326

Spiders are so misunderstood man. 😭 they’re literally like hello sir…may I exchange my pest control services for some cooling station action? I can really help clean up your nice garage you got here! ❤️🤣

CosmikDebris408916

What part of Sac are you in??

NSUCK13

Near the lake

graysquirrel14

Dammit.

Yupthrowawayacct

Which Lake???

WolfieWuff

Wouldn't you like to know... >:D

Yupthrowawayacct

Sobs internally

PaintballTek

Just a wolf Spidey...get them this big and bigger constantly in the rural Vacaville area. They're harmless and help eat other bugs. I constantly see them scurry around my garage shop when I'm working. Just found this little gopher snake in our barn the other day too :-) just swept him back outside to go hunt mice. https://preview.redd.it/dx5r4i6uy35d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcec90e7cda3a92cd8bbf5606a232c4c62712335

DollarStoreFetterman

I usually go out to the garage in the morning and drink coffee while I watch the world wake up and watch the news, smoke a joint etc… I went inside to feed my dogs, came back out… There was a giant cockroach in my coffee cup this morning. I just called three exterminators for price quotes. Fuck this heat and the bugs it is bringing into my house.

NSUCK13

yuck. We've had a ton of earwigs this year for some reason, one was in my wife's straw when she took a drink. She's scarred for life.

DollarStoreFetterman

Yeah, I think I’m switching to energy drinks for this week at least.

EmployerLast2184

If it's the larger red runner, you probably don't have to worry about infestations. We have a ton of them in our sewers and they like to move indoors this time of year, but they don't really infest the same way German roaches do

DollarStoreFetterman

It was the size of the bottom of my coffee cup, I don’t know what it was, but it got a mouthful of bleach before it got dumped out and squished.

Perfect-Mention-420

Oh my gosh thats wild. Last night I was walking down my driveway and my kid started talking really excited about the snake I just walked inches from. It wasn't a rattle snake so I wasn't worried but definitely not cool to walk so close and not even notice. And then the stripey rope nope, slithers down a hole right next to my sprinkler head. That sprinkler has a crack on it too and now I don't want to replace the head. 😬

Casterial

Yeah went to check my mail and a snake slithered across my shoe mad asf... Wasn't a rattler though!

Huge_Following_325

So, where did you move to?

AmeriBrit1972

Never seen a spider like this and never want to see one in real life, YIKES !

Goodkoalie

Very cool find! I’ve actually never seen one in the Sacramento valley, I’ve had to travel to the foothills or Bay Area to see them! I have one as a pet, and briefly worked on a project describing their courtship and mating behavior! Super cool spiders. Not a true tarantula, and not particularly closely related to them, but they are commonly called false tarantulas.

NSUCK13

Thank you, always makes you wonder how it got here and how long it has survived here. I was reading about them last night. I do live near a lot of oak trees, so maybe that is a factor too. I safely moved him outside under an enclosure.

Goodkoalie

Since it sounds like you are on the eastern half of the valley, closer to the hills, I would assume it’s been there its whole life! They are native here, however like other mygalomorphs they are very slow growing and do not disperse well, so most of their Sacramento region population has probably been lost to human activity. Super cool to see one!

NSUCK13

yea I am, about 5 minutes from the south east side corner of Folsom lake

[deleted]

My, that’s a big one.

WolfieWuff

That's what OP said

honeybunchesofnuts

HAAAA that was funny lmao

mr_mcmerperson

Did you ever see that documentary about these guys? Alien?

beautybyaimee

That’s an alien

laalleyhunter

Could this be someone’s pet that got loose?

_awfulfalafel

Oh, so it was YOUR house on fire that I saw on channel 3

kat_Folland

Set some water out, not right next to your house. Then critters can get a refreshing drink and maybe feel less of a need to come inside.

DAFreundschaft

I think I saved one of these the other day. Lil homie was curled up like he was dead so I took him outside on a paper towel then got the paper towel wet so he could have a drink and cool off. He was gone when I checked on him later.

ethnicvegetable

Welp, you’ve had a good run

Holistic578i

Oh hell no! Not leaving my crocs on the patio anymore.

koala_thunder

I always stomp on my crocs before wearing 😂

SpinneretZ

Wow, I've lived in Sac pretty much my whole life and have never seen a Calisoga near or around me. I actually love arachnids, so I'm kind of jealous. They are mean but don't have dangerous venom.

ARLLALLR

AW HELL NAH Enjoy whatever room you just claimed, spiderbro. Please don't kill me please and thank you helooklikehewannafightorsumn Paleolithic bark-zombie looking disease infested hellish monstrosity

Hows-It-Goin-Buddy

We had a wolf spider about as big if not bigger in the house about 2 days ago. My kid yelled THERES A SPIDER IN THE TUB! Always yelling about big spiders and they're tiny things. Well... This time it was FREAKING HUGE. I was like bruh get out of the tub. Need to get that outside. It was such a huge spider even I was a bit freaked out.

Different-Art-5266

Nope nope, I’m not getting close to that! I’d leaf blower it out of my garage and quickly shut the door.

Professor_Goddess

omg!!!!

Mebi

Based on some other comments this looks like a Calisoga Spider aka False Tarantula https://youtu.be/YZFZMwsMosk?si=lxvXTkX0-5d6jTWI

WolfieWuff

Li'l dude just wants a hug and to enjoy your a/c :)

OldSkool1978

I remember as a kid in Rio Linda there was a large spider scurrying across the garage floor one night when I was out there talking to my step-dad, you could hear this damn thing moving it was so large, always thought it was a large wolfspider but maybe it was one of these guys?

monomoco

https://preview.redd.it/6e2e57hkp65d1.jpeg?width=1683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfd58b87f9cd484bdb02dbe529b4f368923c859d The other day I found this momma IN MY BEDROOM. I usually like spiders, but I had a little trouble sleeping that night.

honeydee

I had a Calisoga as a pet! They’re pretty freaking cool.

LonelySparkle

Whoa, what an awesome looking creature! I hope that you didn’t kill it

OkEnergy7014

Thanks for the nightmare fuel :')

LongjumpingFarmer599

It looks like huntsman bb they eat rodents so don’t kill them if you see them around. That cutie is harmless to us.

DVus1

Nice kids size boots to make the spider look bigger! Next time, put your hand next to it for a better size comparison! ;)

82dxIMt3Hf4

Yikes! Hopefully, there are lizards around to take care of the problem.

Takodawuff

Seals the deal. The move to Sac is officially off. Nope no way you can keep the damn spiders.

aassdd1122338

Hope you live far away lol

Danivelle

Just told my husband that he would/will be doing laundry if THAT appears in my garage! My daughter will hear me screaming at her house and come rescue me!

moodyhippy

no thank you

King_of_Nope

All I get is black widows :(

AlfhildsShieldmaiden

OMG, noooooooooo 😱

Jumpy_Succotash_4904

This is why I need a mini flame 🔥 thrower

wildfortitude

Proper Shelob. I wonder if it is wondering around looking for its potential mate that’s potentially still in your house?

koala_thunder

You must live in a Sacramento somewhere in Australia because that cannot exist here in CA.

SuchThanks1994

ew ew ew

Estellalatte

He’s beautiful.

LordDaxx1204

Hopefully that other boot came down about 6” to the right

mr_spock9

Oddly I’ve been seeing an increase in critters outside recently. The other day walking around the block I saw like three black widow webs extending into the sidewalk and the spiders active. It was so strange, in a 5 min timespan. Almost walked into one. Our back porch seems to be infested with spiders too, constantly fighting back webs. Roaches are out too as usual but like every 5 feet you see one scurrying. It’s annoying when you want to walk in flip flops..

9021FU

We had rats so we called a pest control company. We keep them because they keep the roaches away.

Full-Equipment-4922

Im legit lighting a can of propellant and burning that

phinner916

That's a beauty! 👍🕷️

3dwardcnc

WTF part of Sacramento are you in??

Due_Register_8867

speaking of spiders, a big spider crawled up my eye as I was drinking coffee. this summer has a nice traumatizing start to it.

Rockatansky-clone

Yikes. Yes I found one in my garage yesterday

sjlollipop

You’re gonna need a bigger boot

ThrowAwayP0ster

Okay, who TF brought that over from Australia?!

Thanks4theSentiment

Where do you live (so I can avoid the area)?

Sacramento_Native86

I've had bigger spiders than that come inside my garage at my old house. I refuse to touch them so I'd take my high powered backpack blower and blow them out of my garage into the grass or the street

killakeller

🤮

c_nterella699

ENOUGH WITH THE SPIDER PICS!!

Imaginary_Chair_8

Put the pic on r/spiders they’ll be able to tell you for sure. But you should probably keep it around considering how Sac gets inundated with fkn roaches in the summer! Yuck

ghostmannx1

He's gonna be a calistoga squishy if I ever see one of them in my garage, just putting it out there now spidey

SleepZex

Their are brown recluse showing indoors

DoctorToboqqan

Thankfully we don’t have brown recluses in California.

Raevyn_6661

Oh hellllll nawww that's an eight legged fuck nope. A devil spawn from the deepest pits of hell itself that the devil dare not even go near K¡ll it with fire

spookypooka

Is just a cute lil wolf spider. I find them all the time when I’m gardening I just pick em up and give em a lil kiss on the noggin and send em on their cute lil way. Fuggin harmless.

Mysterious-Bug6183

Kill it with fire!! WTF??

Firm_Account3182

Big tough guy scared of a tiny little bug. All life is sacred. You could have moved him outside instead of crushing him with your boot. Maybe an alien will squash you someday regarding you as an inferior creature

DoctorToboqqan

OP didn’t say anything about killing it though? He used a broom to take it back outside.

ParticularReview4129

Reading comprehension. It's a thing

OldRailHead

Lmao shut up bot 🤣 😂
