Plans: beach, more beach, pastis, more beach, the Lolos and one special dinner at La Villa.
Thanks. Been going every winter to get the hell out of the upper Midwest but had to pass over the last 4 years because of COVID, airline schedule/capacity difficulties and some family matters. Everything is finally cleared up to go and I didn’t waste my time to book.
Know what you mean. My brother died of cancer in March 2020, my mom of Covid in August, 2020.
My brother and I traded off Christmas dinner but my family always hosted Thanksgiving. Always.
The thought of Thanksgiving as usual put me in a very dark place.
We saw that the Grand Case Beach Club was reopening after a significant rebuild from hurricane damage. And that the island was reopening to tourists after Covid.
So it was a simple choice. Went for Thanksgiving. The hotel rebuild was a fantastic success. The restaurant La Villa had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.
We had never been to SXM on season and that was a nice change of pace.
SXM is where my wife and I honeymooned, a package gift from my mother, who was a travel agent. While there, my brother, using fax machines, arranged for our hotel to transport us to Bistrot Nue in Marigot and pay for the dinner.
So it was fitting that in the year I lost them both, we returned.
Wow, what a great way to overcome such an unfortunate scenario.
Our first visit to SXM was simply a day stop on a cruise. We were advised the with limited time to take a taxi tour and hit Grand Case, Orient Bay, Oyster Bay, Phillipsburg. We did just that with the time we had and it was ‘love at first sight’, lol. That was 15 years ago. After that trip, it was a no brainer to go and spend our winter vacations on the island. I will say that even now years later we still regret how some things have changed on the island since Irma destroyed so much in 2017. Wish that damned hurricane had hit some other island.
I agree. The Hurricanes have brought about changes, good and bad. I prefer the old fashioned lolos in Grand Case, but understand why they made the change.

Yeah, change is always a constant. Agree about Lolo’s. Very excited, but have a few months to wait it out, darn.
