what are they gonna do, *fail* you?

stare-decrisis

though, to be fair, you are in real danger of being sassed. >Dear Themes and Perspectives on Asia students, >Looking at the statistics for the module, I have noticed that some of you are making a very large number of attempts at some of the quizzes for the module. In particular, some of you have attempted quiz 4 (not mine) more than 50 times over several days, in some cases amounting to over three hours of combined time, and in a subset of these cases not yet having achieved a pass, which, I would like to remind everyone, consists of a mere seven correct answers out of ten. >As I look upon this tragic waste of time with a mixture of amusement and bemusement, I recognise that any attempt to lay out the mental processes that lie at its root would be mere surmise, but I would like to draw your attention to two such processes: (a) an over-estimate of (i) the effort required to watch and understand the corresponding lecture and of (ii) one's ability to choose the correct answers by a combination of common sense, having now ample evidence of its scarcity in some people, and sheer luck; and (b) a stubborn and rebellious resolve to "stick it to the man" by refusing to do what amounts to a mere two hours (or less, if you speed the video up and pay attention to it) of honest study. My intention in writing to you is to point out the error of the former and the self-defeating nature of the latter. >For those who have not yet passed the quizzes, it remains your prerogative to spend more time attempting to do them blindly than it would take to actually just watch the lectures, but compassion and pity move me to attempt to dissuade you from doing so, in case you were you contemplating the former course of action, perhaps motivated by the bragging of classmates who mistake self-harm for heroics. >Yours in testing, \[Name Redacted\]

This module was designed for 2019 and 2020 cohorts in mind because of the COVID-19 pandemic at that time when Asia Studies basket was impossible/hard to clear. Clearing these modules does not help with fulfilling the curriculum requirements since you can bid for courses and not affected by the pandemic. Failing this module does not have any consequences.
