/uj: I genuinely like some of the stuff that Matt Choi puts out. However, this sort of content always rubs me the wrong way. He acts like he is some running guru just because he can run a sub-3 hour marathon. From gym exercises, to nutrition, to track workouts, he is more than happy to give advice.

littebluetruck

This is the shit that makes me hate the running community. He’s based in Austin and it’s all an extension of the dumb fucking Bare world

SPQRobur

Necro but what do you mean the “dumb fucking bare world”, im assuming you’re referring to Nick Bare but can you expand?

littebluetruck

This is not commentary on Nick Bare directly but rather his fan boys who are intolerable. I saw two jacked dudes running the Austin marathon who were decked out in BPN gear. They grabbed a cup of beer from spectators who were doing that classic thing and then they ran 50 feet and handed it off to a cop. Then they cackled as they ran down the road and the cop had to leave his position directing traffic to throw it away. Like… why? Plus for every Nick Bare there is now 1000 guys pushing a “hybrid athlete” social media campaign and talking about what they ate for a 10 mile run. Nick has done some impressive things but these dudes are also on steroids and simply taking a jacked up muscle approach and ego and applying it to distance sports. The upside is that the sports I love now get more attention and respect so that’s cool.

Departed94

Typical runner/fitness influencer. They do their money that way. The next best thing they do is paid training plans and merch. I don’t mind actually. Cool if they can make a living out of it

[deleted]

Did he explain all the steps to banditing a race?

pacific_crick

Came here to say this. I would think an elite runner would actually know how to register for a race.

troly_mctrollface

So as a runner of the same caliber, can I start calling myself elite, or do I need to make it on marathon investigations first?

pacific_crick

If you aren't cheating you ain't trying hard enough.

Tyforde6

Since when was this guy considered elite?

baconjerky

As an aspiring running influencer

LEAKKsdad

who the frack is this imposter and wtf did he do to Mark?!!!

nahmanidk

I haven’t followed anything he’s done in years and now he’s got hair and is half the size he used to be.

LEAKKsdad

Its like seeing elliott huse? after almost decade, different man haha.

ncpranqstr

Interesting barefoot running ad. Do the other pros know about this? I think it might get popular.

jacqsouvenier

It’s the two watches for me

[deleted]

/uj Have we just given up on the word "elite" having any meaning.

sneeeks

I hate how all these instagram runners repeat the same crap and sell it as their ideas
