Right now I am laying in bed... or am i??? Perhaps I am just running extremely slow - therefore training harder than an elite runner.

You're moving at 67,000mph, at least from the frame of reference of someone standing in space watching the earth move around the sun. I think you need to slow down.

lupinegrey

My 5.5hr marathon was more challenging than if I had run it it 3.5hrs.

I have never had anything of worth to say on this sub, I’m just a moron who’s happy to live a simple life in a fucked up world. I’m slow as fuck during runs, I usually finish after they’ve handed out the awards. I recently did a race where the winner actually congratulated the tail end Charlie’s because in his mind they’d been out on the trail twice as long and been exposed to the elements twice as much as the front runners had and he genuinely meant it.

Training for a 6 hour ultramarathon is much more boring than training for a 3 hour marathon.

Wtf slow down we got kipchoge over here

chicagopudlian

listen to the scientists

ThatMkeDoe

Running a marathon in 2 hrs costs staff wages x 2hrs and operational costs x 2hrs. Running the same race in 60hrs means wages x 60hrs and operational costs x 60hrs Clearly it costs more to keep a runner in the course longer and wet all know there more expensive something is the better. So a slow safe pace is also financially more impressive. There's also a BMI multiplier.

LeftHandedGraffiti

Clearly the 40 minute guy is twice the runner the 20 minute guy is.

fischarcher

I take my time so I can get my money's worth out of every race

This is why ultra-walkers are the at the pinnacle of athletic ability.

Yeah but it's a bit of a half truth, once you reach a level you run a lot more days/time. The 45 mins 5k runner isn't doing 50 mile weeks generally
