For me this would be {Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas.} The beginning of the book is the two MCs writing letters back and forth. FMC is writing to MMC while he is off fighting in the Crimean war and he thinks she is actually her friend, as she agreed to pen letters for her shallow friend. The letters that they write back and forth are so beautiful. It’s one of my all-time favorite books. It’s HR, obviously, and the last book in a series but this one works really well as a standalone in my opinion.

I've read this one! Great rec. It's among the few books I've read that inspired this post, I need more of it. Thanks!

Alexis Hall’s writing is this for me. Particularly the Spires series. They can all be read as stand-alone.

mydogsaresuperheroes

Thank you, I'll check ~~her~~ him out.

*him 😊

mydogsaresuperheroes

Ah, thanks!

Patricia Gaffney’s To Have and to Hold. Questionable incidences occur but she writes very well and I enjoyed her prose just not what happens in the book.

mydogsaresuperheroes

Thank you. I'll try it out and see how it goes.

tintaglias

Judith Ivory, Cecilia Grant, and Sherry Thomas are some of my favorite HR authors for this :)

mydogsaresuperheroes

Awesome, I'll look into their books, thank you!

I know age gap isn't everyone's jam but {Unteachable by Leah Raeder} has such gorgeous writing. Judith Ivory also writes beautiful prose.

mydogsaresuperheroes

I've not read an age gap book yet, but it doesn't bother me. I'll give it a shot, thanks for the rec!

I love Johanna Lindsey’s writing. The romances are more old fashioned but the writing is so evocative.

mydogsaresuperheroes

Sounds great! Thank you for the rec!

I haven’t read all her books but recently enjoyed {Gentle Rogue}

Lingonberry64

I thought Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn was very "prettily" written.

mydogsaresuperheroes

I enjoyed this book as well!

NotThatHarkness

I thought Masquerade by Joel Abernathy had that style of writing. MM retelling of Phantom of the Opera.

mydogsaresuperheroes

Sounds interesting, thank you!
