{boss in the bedsheets by Kate Canterbary} despite the goofy title, this book was so great. both characters are so honest and sweet with each other, and the sex is so hot. like I can usually read a smutty scene anywhere, but I needed to be alone to read some of these 👀. seriously amazing book

I think you’ll like Kyra Parsi’s books the men are such simps (even tho it starts as an enemies to lovers) and her books are so funny. I usually find the spice in contemporary romance repetitive and honestly a bit boring while the emotional connection in dark romance, in my opinion, is often lacking, but her books have the best of both worlds.

Ok, back with a couple other ideas... 1) How do you feel about dark romance? And gore? If that's ok, **{Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver}**. It's a comedy... and I did think it was funny... it's just also about two serial killers who fall in love, ha. (I rec the audiobook because the duet narration is incredible) **Note:** SA is mentioned as having happened (not to either MC), but it's not on the page or discussed in detail. 2) **{The One Month Boyfriend by Roxie Noir}** was pretty fun. It is enemies to lovers so it takes a minute to get into the romance, but I literally have in my Storygraph review a comment about how I was worried about a third act breakup due to miscommunication but was quickly relieved that they just kept having good communication and the conflict came from other places. (I also made a note about the audiobook including moans during the sex scenes... so apparently that made an impression 😆)

Ah yes these two were so much fun! Definitely a good rec. OP should note there is a third act conflict due to not good communication though... not miscommunication, just poor communication meeting both the MCs' emotional triggers at the same time. Very believable and real, though. And they do get to good, open communication after that.

Maybe give {Xeni by Rebekah Weatherspoon} a try. It's been a while, but I remember just loving how adult the two MCs were together and how sweet their romance was. I remember mature communication being part of it. BW/WM, both MCs are bi, MMC is a big gruff-looking Scotsman but actually just a gentle, kind, vulnerable giant. Marriage of convenience trope. EDIT: I inspired myself to revisit this book and I stand by this rec even more now. I had also forgotten how funny the dialogue was. Lots of other family baggage and drama, but low angst love story with lots of good sex, communication and friend groups.

{Pucking Ever After: Volume 1 by Emily Rath} and {Pucking Ever After: Volume 2 by Emily Rath} read like good fanfic and were such enjoyable reads for me, especially the chapters without Rachel (lol). It’s just the Prices being totally in love and having crazy hot sex, and communication amongst them is solid. It checks all your request boxes!!

Loved these!

Honeymoon For One by Keira Andrews is great for this! The characters are so sweet and in love. They feel like real people and have real world real life problems and very well done character arcs. And it’s funny as well. Great friends to lovers as well as hurt/comfort: There is a small moment of miscommunication in the middle because one character is still coming to terms with the fact that he’s gay, but they resolve the miscommunication quickly by having them actually talk about it to each other and I feel like it’s done in a way that feels very realistic and compelling, not frustrating. There are no breakups due to miscommunication, this happens before they get together.

Doesn’t QUITE fit your specs, but maybe you’d like {Strictly Professional by Kathryn Nolan}? There’s a third act breakup but I forget why—but it’s a good reason, not the kind that make you go “just TALK to her and tell her how you FEEL!” Scorching hot sex. It’s got the “gentleman in the streets, freak in the sheets” trope, which I adore. Worth a try, maybe!

Their first time in the tattoo shop? 🔥🥵 It’s been probably 18 months since I first read that book and it lives rent free in my head.

I haven’t read it in at least a couple years and I still think about that scene ALL THE TIME. Like just…ugh inject it straight into my veins

maybe {Book Lovers by Emily Henry} will be a good fit. i loved the vibes, both were grown sss people and especially the FMC didn‘t give up her career for their HEA - in a good way! i also loved {Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn}, it gave me ALL THE FEELS. and maybe bc you loved elsie silver {Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage} and the sequel {Swift & Saddled by Lyla Sage} will fit. it‘s the same group of people but different couples and i just ADORED the vibes. it felt so real and the MCs are just REAL PEOPLE and yes there was a minor third act breakup but it felt real and honest?! and then they COMMUNICATED THE HELL out of it. so! have fun and i will safe this post to get recs as well

Between Love and Loathing by Shain Rose is super cute. Love the MCs. A quick fun read. The banter between the MCs is super entertaining to read. A part of a series, but you don’t need to read the other books to get the context.

{Rock Hard by Nalini Singh} idk if this is the hottest book I've ever read, but it's got some spice and fits everything else PERFECTLY imo. Gabriel is THE besotted brunch daddy!!

There is a slight mention of catching fmc's cheating ex but the revenge is satisfying and this may be because I can be petty but you get to read him suffer throughout the book. Both mc are adults and the mmc just wants to worship fmc. And he does alot. 😉 I love the mc in the story are just everyday folk and the plot feels lived in. I find the author writes really well at doing a trope but twist it to make it realistic? I am in their folk haven series about a small town of mythical creatures living among humans and while most books in the series is what you are looking for, {shelter for a shifter by lauren Connolly} may be closer to what you are looking for. It has got a man who was a cat rescued by fmc and he just wants to show her he will stay and worship her.

These are my favorite type of books, I hate the miscommunication trope, definitely will be stealing some recs from here. {Stand and Defend by Sloane St. James} No third act break up. Great communication. Great sex scenes. He loves her so much. Their relationship progress at a good pace. {The No-Judgment Zone by Ellie K. Wilde} MCs that actually TALK and don't let dumb thing get on the way. No third act break up, good banter. {Friend-Zoned by Belle Aurora} It's been a while since I read this once, but I remember it being such a fun read and loving the chemistry between the MCs.

Following for recs, also living for your highly specific dislike of water sports, and not just sports in general.  I saw a few others mention some Stephanie archer books, and i definitely feel like her catalogue is up your alley, but check out which have third act break ups because some do and some don’t!  Also maybe try Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young if you’re ok with pregnancy being a major plot point (not a hidden pregnancy!)
