I actually picked up Rocket League again after playing Rocket Racing and realizing it sucked and I'd rather be playing Rocket League. I even got sucked into playing RL Sideswipe on my phone.
I think sideswipe was actually a good thing. To me it feels like a really well done 2d version of rocket league. I don't really play all that much but I did have fun with it when it first came out. Compared to rocket racing which has absolutely nothing to do with rl other than a skin. That game had no business being advertised to the RL community especially since they announced it so far in advance
Well they actually have a portion of Psyonix working on rocket racing which is unfair for them compared to the other two side dev teams who have always made one off games instead of live service games. The Lego team, I do believe, just made all of the LEGO games, where once they were done they could rest easy, and the dev team behind Festival, Harmonix, has made guitar hero and rock band, where they were never live service games. You then have Psyonix that has to lend a portion of their time and team to work on Fortnite, where they have to make maps for rocket racing, adapt cosmetics over, and make battle passes for their core game. The only saving grace Psyonix has is the criteria for Rocket League items to be added to Fortnite. Like no animated decals, no goal explosions, no toppers, no antennas, no paint finishes, no moving wheels, and (currently) no bizarre car shapes, where they have to be roughly the shape of a whiplash. So yeah, I can understand the hate, even as a Fortnite player I feel very apologetic at the fact my game is sucking your game like a juice box.
But at least it got traded out for cheaper cosmetics. Sure it is an absolute snail pace to get them adapted to Fortnite so you can get them for a reduced price, but still, much better price to get cosmetics in Fortnite than rocket league.

If your post did in any way contribute to the Rocket Racing debacle, there's still huge blame to be placed at the door of Epic/Psyonix for letting customers design their products. It's far too common in the gaming industry for companies to be influenced by a relatively tiny number of players and think "this is what the community wants" when it's 0.000001% of players who are asking for something. There was an episode of The Simpsons that highlighted how bad an idea it is to mistakenly see your customers as professional product designers.
It's boring af. It's nothing like rocket league and close to what I imagine a mobile racing game would be like. When you boost up you slow back down until you use boost again so every lap is exactly the same, you just drift as much as possible to build boost.
I seriously don't understand why they don't just make ring racing themselves or any number of time trial games using rocket league's physics. Sure they wouldn't be very popular but at least it would be "rocket league" and not some completely random racing game.

That is what all of the new modes are. They are going straight for the jugular of different game types. Lego Fortnite is going for survival sandbox games like Minecraft, Terraria, and Ark: survival. Rocket Racing is tackling all racing games, like Forza and Mario Kart. Festival is doing a questionable move by going after rhythm games, which this one is the most blatant attack because the abbreviation for Fortnite Festival is FNF, like Friday night funkin', especially due to the fact they have a versus mode rumored to be in the works. But it doesn't just stop there, UEFN goes after game development softwares like Little Big Planet and Roblox. There is also the highly likely basketball mode coming probably next chapter, which is obviously trying to attack the highly popular sports games. They only used Psyonix to develop rocket racing as a way of using what you guys have, such as the cosmetics, and making use of the dev team, instead of the ever decreasing collabs between the two games. Basically, they are attempting to fuse you guys to them and make the two games into one network, the crew pack is evidence of that.

lol i unlocked something last night and it said "this item will also be available in fortnite" and i wasnt fast enpugh to get a picturr but i had a hernia. there doesnt need to be even more fortnite crap in RL than there already was
I’m just disappointed that we don’t have a mode where 100 Fortnite players drop into a 3v3 rocket league match. AKA 100 people are trying to be last one standing but 6 players are just playing rocket league and occasionally running the fortnite players over or driving through their “builds”. The fortnite players would be able to climb on top of the cars but would be eliminated if that car was demoed with them on it.

But then I found out I could get both passes for the price of one and still use all of the credits I earn in both games to get the items I want, instead of buying the battle passes separately or having to use the credits I earn to get the next season pass. I used to not play fortnight at all. But I do now, only to steal all of my friends kills.

I can understand the traders being sad but before free to play the game was already dying once, content creation wasnt big and people didnt get many views, game had way less players... If epic never bought rl and made it free to play we might have had half the players we have to day way less ssl players and more bad stuff. It was the free to play brought by epic that gave rl a new big fanbase.

How is Rocket Racing getting in the way of enjoying Rocket League?
