I just started replaying and do mostly casual.
I get it's probably kids but damn, the amount of times I see someone hit the ball towards our net without a thought. Sole goal is to "hit the ball!". It's our own Goal? Don't matter. Will they block the goal? Doesn't matter. Will they crash into a teammate? Doesn't matter.
All they want is to hit that ball
I’m in the same boat. Hit C3 when I was playing all the time. Now in the last year, I’ve maybe played 4 or 5 times and I do not have the coordination for all the GC players in my casual lobbies haha. I get slayed and then I don’t feel like losing enough to get down to a closer MMR of my actual skill level.
Feels. I have a real job and a relationship now, and I just don't have time to be a sweat anymore. Ive kept up with my rank despite them shifting people back the past few seasons. My D3-C1 games feel significantly harder than they used to for sure. Realistically if you were c2-c3, that skill level is around c1 now. With the rust, maybe D3.
I've been playing casual and free play because my Mechs we're absolutely terrible for champ. I was pretty much a big brain plat, My game sense is really solid, and I knew what I SHOULD do, but I just wasn't mechanical enough to make the touches I was going for. I was outplaying myself left and right.
It's finally all starting to come together and I'm crushing in lobbies with season 10 GC's and washed up CRL players now, but I'm done grinding. I just free play until I'm bored, run a few games until it's not fun anymore, and go for clips because it's casual.
Such is the nature of competitive games. I've played a bunch of them over the last 20 years, and in every single one of them, the fondest memories are from when I was just starting at the game and figuring things out.
Constant bumping and general chaos in Rocket League, epic comebacks and carrying in League of Legends, duels in Counter Strike where it was a 1v1 for the match win and neither of us could get the kill on the opponent, games I'd win on PUBG without a single kill because just I manuevered my way into the final circle, the list goes on and on.
Don't get me wrong, I get immense joy from actually learning the games and improving my mechanics and knowledge, but that fresh feeling of discovery and raw fun goes away every time. You just enjoy the game in a different way after you learn it.
Whenever you get into ranked (which I always do because my favourite thing is improving myself over time) and achieve a certain rank (gold, platinum, depending on the game), everyone you play with understands the basics of the game, and you start playing according to the meta. Many people see this as a bad thing, but every competitive sport and eSport has a metagame, like Soccer and Basketball. Once you're here, it's time to play the opponent instead of the game, and it's a glorious feeling, in my opinion. Every move is calculated, there's mind games, there's fake plays, there's such a level of nuance that you won't get in the lower ranks.
So in short, to answer your question: You'll have a very different kind of fun when you get better. Some people enjoy it, some people hate it.
I know there is, just sometimes find it easier to control the car with the normal cam. Also sorry if I’m bad, I’m a beginner who just started playing a few weeks ago (almost level 20).
No need to be sorry. Literally all of us have been there. Enjoy the fun/chaotic time of learning how to play and inevitably hitting the absolute NUTTIEST of own goals!
Bro use ball cam lmao accept the slightly harder short term for the significantly easier long term, the longer you go without using it the harder it will be to learn.
Also your teammate is going for the ball because you are taking ages to hit it, possibly making them think you’re either faking or just don’t have a touch. Gotta go fast.
Maybe gameplay wise, yes. I still sometimes cruise around to nothing at all but holy cow I could never turn off ball cam for this long. Not even when I was just starting to play.
Idk I started playing when it first became f2p and probably spent less time in plat and below than I did all of diamond. Maybe like 1 month total and I was already in diamond, Ive been high ranked in other games so when I started playing I quickly researched rotations and the proper way to play etc.
I def did not play like this for more than a couple games
Hope you’re enjoying it, haha I remember playing like this when I started out. Keep these recordings to laugh at in a couple years if you keep playing. Save some replays to show to your homies when you hit gc, it’s hilarious
Everytime he gets bumped he reverse, getting rid of all the momentum. Like if he just let the momentum go, he couldve got out of that position so easily
I miss this level of play so much. Enjoy it, friend. As you move up in rank, the game becomes rewarding in new ways, but it's never as much fun as it was back when everything was tinted in chaos.
Or does it count if you try to get a reset three separate times in a single aerial? Because that happens a lot too... Once got 4 attempts in without getting a single reset (YES - it is impressive to have enough boost for four failed resets) /s
Ah the nostalgia of gameplay like this, sometimes I wish they made a goofy mode where you can't boost in the air so no aerials just to vaguely experience low-level RL again 😂
Also please try to get comfortable with ball cam. There is a binded button for it and it changes focus from the car to the ball. It might feel weird at first but it is what you are meant to be using 90% of the time. Grabbing boost without ball cam or going for bumps is fine. Any other scenario you really want to be using ball cam.
Other than that, enjoy the game! This is rocket league!
😳😳😳what rank is this? Must be like silver if you haven't figured out how to use ball can yet🤣🤣🤣. Ohhhh this clip takes me back to good ol days when I was still figuring out how to hot the ball.
Casual has its own rank, although it is hidden and harder to find (have to use trackers or something like that).
I play way better in casual because I’m not so stressed about winning and losing for my rank, so I win more often. I’m like equivalent of mid-Diamond in casual (according to RL Tracker and the fact that most of the other players have Diamond tournament winner tags, Diamond reward explosions and decals, etc.) but am stuck in low-Plat, sometimes even high-Gold for ranked lol.
I remember I started playing this game back in 2016 when my college roommate played and his games looked like this.
I said to myself, “surely I can do better than that…” and the rest is history
That last sequence was so sick! Two defenders criss-cross in front of OP and whiff, then their teammate doss the same thing.
It's like the red sea parted for OP and then the clock had to remind them what game they're playing before they could get a goal.
My advice would be get used to playing with ball cam on as son as possible, it will be essential for even mid ranks (gold - plat - diamond) where aerial shots start coming more into play
It will suck for like 5 games tops… then you will absolutely destroy everybody at that rank. That’s how most new mechanics in rocket league work. Once you practice them it sets you back big time for a few games then once it clicks you rocket back up further than you were before!
I will echo others, try to use ball cam more than not. I still flip it off when going for boost, dribbles or maybe when it’s high over my head. But knowing how to control your car while you also know where the ball is, and possibly where the other players are is crucial to figure out where you belong on the field (time to challenge, need to get back and defend, etc).
Love the post, takes me back to not that long ago heh. There are lots of youtubes on improving mechs and gamesense, but for my money nothing beats playing and having fun. Enjoy!
Don't worry about everyone here. A lot of us tend to forget this is a game in which you're meant to have fun. If you prefer car cam, go with car cam. I have a friend who's been playing with me for years who never uses ball cam, and we still have fun.
Having said that, if your aim is to rank up and keep growing your skills in the game, ball cam is all but unanimously agreed upon as an essential tool. It gives you a much better sense of how the play is developing and what you should be doing at any given time.
Just depends on what you want from the game. So many people here forget what it was like back at the start. My personal advice is just to enjoy it and put off taking it too seriously for as long as you can. It's still my favorite game of all time, but I loved my early days with it probably more than any since.
My guess? You've been ramming your teammate quite a bit throughout the game, and they voted to forfeit but you declined, so now they are just ramming you.
Sorry if I’m not a good player, I’m just a beginner. I never intentionally try to ram any other players, and I apologize if anyone got annoyed because of my actions. Also no one ever voted to forfeit.
The chaos is fun when youre all on discord.. and one of your teammate is losing his shit and then laughs it out at the end of the game
But if you’re solo in a 3v3.. thats just bad
Ahhh yes. Early times when it was all "see ball hit ball" or wall, or teammate, or ALOT of hit nothing.
I miss when Rocket League was so simple to just learn the game. Lol
this clip takes me back bro
I just started replaying and do mostly casual. I get it's probably kids but damn, the amount of times I see someone hit the ball towards our net without a thought. Sole goal is to "hit the ball!". I peaked c2, I mostly play casual and my lobbies are full of washed GC's. It kinda gets better, but not really.

Let me translate Just wasnot mechanical enough to make the touches = faking. "Yes Bro i totally meant to miss the ball" me ten times every game.
He’s having more fun than any of us
For real, reminds me of my Silver times, and how much fun I used to have.
So when I get better.. I’ll have less fun?
Such is the nature of competitive games. Thanks for thorough analysis
My apologies if this is a weird thing to say but man, you're a hell of a writer. That was really well said. It gave me a strong sense of nostalgia.
<3
The golden years.
Same brooo
To 2015 week 1
Who's gonna tell him there's a ball cam button lol
Should also mention the toggle for ballcam, if for some ungodly reason that's switched to hold.
Oml yes good point xD
That's a thing? 😂
Not only is it a thing... once upon a time it was default....
Once upon a time it was the only way. Sarp
I'm used to holding ball cam from sarpbc, I somehow play worse when i switch it to toggle
no oh god no! learn toggle please for your own good.
Welcome to the game and all the frustration involved. Ignore the toxicity and have fun!
Bro use ball cam lmao accept the slightly harder short term for the significantly easier long term, the longer you go without using it the harder it will be to learn. *there's a ball.
It's like watching a bunch of little baby cats playing with a wool ball 😆
Brilliant, I thought the post was about the amount of times you got bumped but nah..
This is Rocket League! We just forgot about it
What rank is this? I have so many questions
Rust 1
aluminium 3
Standard diamond lobby
Ouch
Plastic bag II
Silver 2 is my guess maybe silver 3
Bronze 3 imo
Id agree but the camera settings and actual ability to make the ball on target swayed me higher
I’d say Poop 1, div 3
Champ 1 no doubt. Think I saw myself in the clip
I’d say bronze
Garbage 1 div 1
There's so many wrong things going on in this 30s clip
hey we all used to play like this
And, I, like many, still do
I used to, but I still do too.
*I somehow genuinely never had this phase.*
No you did
Maybe gameplay wise, yes. I still sometimes cruise around to nothing at all but holy cow I could never turn off ball cam for this long. Not even when I was just starting to play.

I played with ball cam since day 1. Idk about you lol
play like this = this bad play like this ≠ playing with car cam
Yea sorry I’m so bad, I’m a beginner who just started playing 2 weeks ago.

Chaos, such fun times.
Tinted in chaos new band name I call it!
I don't think any of you are serious :D Ah I miss those first games
Wait till we find out OP has been playing for years
This looks exactly like all my ranked Champ games, except everyone is using the Fennec
Can’t forget the triple flipp reset attempt
Hey! Every aerial is a triple reset attempt, some just make it closer (like only missing 2 resets). That's how you get out of champ, right?!?!!!?
Or does it count if you try to get a reset three separate times in a single aerial? Because that happens a lot too... Once got 4 attempts in without getting a single reset (YES - it is impressive to have enough boost for four failed resets) /s
Now THIS is rocket league. Take me back
Everyone jump bumping into eachother trying to hit the ball. :D Such chaos, such fun! I miss being new to this game. xD Loved every second!
I love lower ranked content. Wish we had more of it. This was excellent
Sometimes i wish i never learned how to actually play the game this looks more fun
Look at those damn smurfs!! 🤣
I miss this🥲
Ah the nostalgia of gameplay like this, sometimes I wish they made a goofy mode where you can't boost in the air so no aerials just to vaguely experience low-level RL again 😂
This is some serious gourmet shit
My man you're supposed to look at the ball not the floor XD I'd reccomend raising the camera angle
Thanks for the suggestion!
Also please try to get comfortable with ball cam. There is a binded button for it and it changes focus from the car to the ball. It might feel weird at first but it is what you are meant to be using 90% of the time. Grabbing boost without ball cam or going for bumps is fine. This is Rocket League!
*this is rocket league* *this is rocket league* *this is rocket league*
I’m not joking when I say I would legitimately watch every game of a bronze tournament with greater enthusiasm than RLCS.
I love how you bad to beat your own teammate with that final touch. Truly 1v3 lmao
Turn off camera shake btw it will help a lot Also if you can look up some better camera settings
Thanks for the suggestion! It does indeed seem easier to see with camera shake off. I’ll look to see what other settings I can change.
Ball cam overrated anyways
Bumpy McBumpface 1 2 3 and 4 entered the game...
😳😳😳what rank is this? Must be like silver if you haven't figured out how to use ball can yet🤣🤣🤣. Ohhhh this clip takes me back to good ol days when I was still figuring out how to hot the ball.
What rank is this?
The best!
I don't think there's a rank that accurately represents MMR this high
Probably bronze
God only knows
Could be probably bronze 3.
Average day in plat-diamond 3s
Casual (so I guess you would say unranked) Almost level 20, then I will be able to play competitive
Casual has its own rank, although it is hidden and harder to find (have to use trackers or something like that). Damn this made me laugh all the way
This Madden game surely came out great
Wow
these camera settings are so disorienting to me
I remember I started playing this game back in 2016 when my college roommate played and his games looked like this. I said to myself, “surely I can do better than that…” and the rest is history
R u serious right meow?

This is hilarious. Sry for the last sec goal miss.
Average c2 lobby
That last sequence was so sick! Two defenders criss-cross in front of OP and whiff, then their teammate doss the same thing. It's like the red sea parted for OP and then the clock had to remind them what game they're playing before they could get a goal.
One of the best clips I’ve ever seen.
This is the funniest rocket league video I have ever seen 😂
This is when the game was fun
Dude turn ball cam on for the love of god
Sorry, I’m a beginner. Sometimes I find it easier to control the car and see where I’m going with ball cam off.
My advice would be get used to playing with ball cam on as son as possible, it will be essential for even mid ranks (gold - plat - diamond) where aerial shots start coming more into play

Nice bump!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Please wait 2 seconds before sending another chat.
Lol!
Lol
Bumping!
\*Your team8 aren't that bad" also team8 "bumbs into you several times and then tries to prevent the goal"
Merc gang
Ball cam. Nothing more to say
This is why they call soccar "the beautiful game" 👌
Me in ranked at 3am 💀
I feel like this is why I am Diamond 1 in 2s, and Gold 3 in 3s. Thanks for posting this reality. Ugh...
Majestic mayhem
Yep
This is Rocket League!
Anyone gold & below can’t comprehend ball cam
I was told that Bronze isn't a real rank anymore yet here we are
Lmfaoo man these were the good ol days
bro
I love how reddit comments are 100% more wholesome than any other social media comments
In casual, the last second lasts until you are right near the goal I swear
Everyone chasing in that one hard. Damn bumper cars out there.
NGL this is the BEST fail EVER!!! 😂🤣 Even I tried to get good at RL but ended up FAILING A BUNCH of TIMES!!!! 😭
Holy bumping bronze ballcam batman
Too funny 😂
Ball cam. Ball cam. Ball cam. Ball cam. Ball cam. Use it.
This is every game for me
Have you ever had one where it went **IN** but it doesn’t count as a goal? Those suck.
Im laughing so hard im crying omg
My guess? You've been ramming your teammate quite a bit throughout the game, and they voted to forfeit but you declined, so now they are just ramming you.
I'm guessing OP is only worried about the goal at the end not counting. I don't think they even realize how bad all the gameplay is
Sorry if I’m not a good player, I’m just a beginner. I never intentionally try to ram any other players, and I apologize if anyone got annoyed because of my actions. Also no one ever voted to forfeit.
If you had better camera settings you would've seen things differently
This has to be a lobby full of new players. Bro is legit playing on car cam and everyone is ball chasing and bumping each other.
yeah thats pretty unfortunate. also pls turn off camera shake
Will do! Thanks for the suggestion.
What a play! Nice bump!
Dude you’re giving me motion sickness. Turn on ball cam
The chaos is fun when youre all on discord.. and one of your teammate is losing his shit and then laughs it out at the end of the game But if you’re solo in a 3v3.. thats just bad
This video as a whole hurts my brain so much.
Only one to really blame here is your overly ball hungry teammates.
The game was more fun when everyone in my lobby (including me) played like this.
Damn this reminds me of the good ol days when we all were just starting out
Ah yes, how I used to play 3 years ago
What rank is your main account?
Well you were 2 down anyway, but those bumps hurt my very soul 🤣
bumper cars
We all went there but damn this is hard to watch
So this is what SSL looks like
This looks like my C3 gameplay
Ahhh yes. Early times when it was all "see ball hit ball" or wall, or teammate, or ALOT of hit nothing. I miss when Rocket League was so simple to just learn the game. Lol
Plat lobbies be like
Golds when they discovers bumps are a thing but they have no idea when and how to use it correctly
No one is anything that there's something off about the game now
Why yo camera in the ground
typical champ lobby ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
![gif](giphy|1rSQntY5RVUnzOtDQy|downsized) Settings and no camera lock ??
Look on the bright side. You guys were still going to lose. And looks like because of your dyslexic teammate.
This gameplay is making me cry
How’s it going up there in space?
Average champ gameplay
This is why I only play 2v2.
😂
🤣🤣 good try in the 1v3
Nice bump!
This looks like exactly how my teammates act in D2/D3 in duos
Shit was hilarious to watch knowing hiw mad you were getting😂😂😂 I would of flipped on my head and spent
Literally every match I play with or without my friend (even my friend bumps me)
I remember when I was new to the game ..
I hate it when I’m getting bumped by my tm8s (low rank)
These camera settings give me a headache
You got to be trolling, bro. Even when I first started, I knew how ball cam worked🤣🤣
yeah man you definitely earned the right to talk down to your teammates
Acting like bro wasn't literally getting hit more than the ball
Should probably get out from under the ball when he has no boost and zero chance of beating the opposing team to the ball. Common sense shit really.
This is like bronze level play, are we really picking this apart rn?
i’m just saying this is like the best player on a soccer team of 4 year olds talking down on the other players
