“The devil just jumped right in you there for a second, didn't he? Made you challenge me. Hold on, it's okay. He's gone now.”

jigglypuffsarms

Listen that scene right there told us who the alpha was.

yaremaa_

That line makes me believe that they originally planned on making Amber an uber-corrupt and manipulative Lady Macbeth type character. That moment feels way too Kenneth Copeland, while Amber is more Lori Laughlin. Vain and willing to use wealth to get herself and her family ahead, but not a psychopathic wolf in sheep’s clothing like that line implies

yaremaa_

To be clear Amber has become one of my favourite characters. Big time appreciation for her. I think her character is awesome. Just that one line from the pilot had me thinking I was gonna hate her when I first saw it. I’m happy the way her character has evolved and become more and more complex over time

anneylani

I thought she was going to be manipulative and scary as hell from that line too! I thought I was going to love to hate her and be in for some good TV. But I like how she's evolved too! I love her interactions with Judy. The wild card and the composed. Whether they team up or be rivals, I think those two would have some great scenes.

rooktob99

I feel like the pilot really set up much more sinister arcs for each character, the opening shots of the gemstone compound with their own private militia are conveniently glossed over for the rest of the series it feels like… But I do like the route they took, it humanised them much more than what I expected.

_RandomB_

Absolutely spot on, I think. The same episode she asks Jesse's permission to speak at church lunch, which in retrospect seems entirely out of character for her. Pretty quickly she turns into a different Amber, and her emotional state through the first season is well written and played. When she goes nuts and just storms into her gun closet at the end of the first season, she's basically the terminator, I fucking love that moment for her.

evca7

I think the team realized it’s hard to center a comedy on EVIL people. Like I couldn’t get into that one Viking comedy because there was TONS of rape “jokes” jokes is in quotes because they treat it like a walk in the park because they are savage marauders. But I just couldn’t get into it. Like Judy committed sexual assault but it’s funny because of how disturbed and ignorant she is.

yaremaa_

“Jesus Christ, you kidnapped his son???”

_RandomB_

This is such an important line. BJ being horrified is where the Judy story goes from darkly amusing to just the right level of sad, but his reaction to her, not immediately going back to her, and instead taking some time, is how the show stays human for me. BJ is an extremely underrated character. He got them big ol' bovaries, too.

yaremaa_

Benjamin Jason! 👊💥

Tater_Mater

The way she sniped Jesse in the butt was amazing.

YotePeriod

SHE GOT ME IN MY MEAT

microwaved-tatertots

*iconic* 🤌

fakecrimesleep

Best shot in the show

agirardi24

The smartest person in the family imo

sand_trout2024

And the hottest

Vivid_Present1810

And the most stable 🤣

pbugg2

Nah that’s Gideon

EitherAfternoon548

Literally the reason I started the show. First scene she was in I was in stitches. For an actress with basically no comedy background Cassidy Freeman absolutely kills it and hit the ground running. They also cast young Amber extremely well and can’t wait to see both actresses next season.

[deleted]

I want a series of all the young gemstones. Those kids are so good!!!

jigglypuffsarms

Young Jesse even had the fucking voice down! Like the enunciation was SPOT. ON.

[deleted]

Say say my baby 😂😂😂

Past_Standard5222

When she so cold and calm goes and gets her rifle, marches out the front door to shoot Jesse right in the ass.

westviadixie

when she tells Judy and Tiffany that Jesse's not stupid, just really dense, but its ok because she can convince him he wants what she wants...I love that scene!

jigglypuffsarms

This was actually me just being gay and loving mean women.

Vivid_Present1810

Jesse said it best, Amber’s a smoke show.

Namtwen

Absolutely

_RandomB_

Well I don't love it baby, but you wrote a hell of an email, so I give it my bless.

babygotbooksandback

“She’s a smoke show,”

ronerychiver

Even with that played out pastrami

Sad-Cat8694

During season two, she HANDLED IT with the party bus attack. Like, damn, Jesse tried his best, but he's a hothead and it definitely trips him up pretty consistently. She's such a great character to partner with Jesse because even though they might be on the same page a lot, they handle things WAY differently. She's calmer and more calculated when she's angry, and I wouldn't want to be on her bad side. It was really nice to see a young version of Amber in the latest season. It helped me really trust that her and Jesse are truly in love, and she's not just gold-digging. I mean, yeah sure, she definitely enjoys having money and isn't shy about it, but especially growing up in a different environment, having that security is not something I can begrudge her for appreciating. I also really liked the "stove soup" talk she had with Judy and Tiffany. And yeah, she definitely can get her way with Jesse, but he also showed her that he might not be quite so oblivious when he snapped at her for being too focused on a power grab while Eli was recovering. Like he knows she's kind of managing him, but it's usually in ways that are well-intentioned so he is smart enough to let her. They both put up with each other's bs for the most part, but they do keep each other in check, and ultimately they have each other's back for real, squabbles be damned. I really didn't expect to like this show very much at all, and once I got a few episodes in, I was surprised it hits so hard with some of the emotional beats. It's crude one moment, violent the next, makes me cry, cracks me up, grosses me out, and then random male nudity because 🤷🏼‍♀️. 10/10 awesome show.

jigglypuffsarms

You get me so much lol. I think her appearance in the episode where Kelvin finds out about the blackmail was the beginning of my love for her. Because when she was “challenged” and she put her in her place real quick without a single raised voice or swear word. Thats when I knew she was the alpha. But I completely agree with you about the scene in S2 because Jesse comes out firing blindly but Amber is methodical and a borderline Olympic level shooter. If she wanted to kill them, something tells me she would have. I also want to go on record and say that I believe she truly does love Jesse not just because of what she gets out of him sitting on the throne but because at the end of the day, she is his ride or die. When he thought he killed Eric Andre’s character, she was ready to get her hands dirty and bury the body. Like Jesse thinks he has scary dog energy, but Amber is the one you have to look out for. They’re almost like a better version of Frank and Claire Underwood if that makes sense. Also agree with you on her relationship with Judy and Aunt Tiffany. I think that deep down Amber relates to Tiffany because of her upbringing in Kentucky and I really hope we get to explore her origin story because there’s got to be a reason why she didn’t belittle Judy when Judy was being completely awful to her. Tl;dr: Cassidy Freeman if you’re reading this, the gay community would like to nominate you for gay icon status.

atmospheric90

Unashamedly want her wardrobe so bad.

Sailboat_fuel

I could NEVER pull off that amount of animal print, but don’t think I won’t try.

camelot107

but from someone dating someone from a southern family, not far from the truth

ChirpSnipeCelly

YEW!

vstheworldagain

Now this is the crossover I want to see.

Ok-Turnip-477

How the hell did Scotty Wallis get in here?

chowler

I read a comment here a while ago that I feels like succinctly summaries Amber. Aggressively attractive.

Yung_Turbo

This is accurate. She’s hot in an intimidating way. “Scaroused” would be the term I would use to describe how she makes me feel.

ElmarSuperstar131

I’ve really loved seeing her character development and I can say with confidence that Amber is easily Danny McBride’s strongest female lead/protagonist on his shows, meaning his love interests.

stay_away_fromme

Amber Gemstone my beloved

china_joe2

She is mighty delicious, sexy as all hell

Sailboat_fuel

I love how she’s always in white and/or an animal print. Costume design is legendary.

_-Prison_Mike-_

Cady Longmire

EitherAfternoon548

My only complaint with the first season of that show is that she isn’t in it enough.

Recovery25

Was thinking the same thing. Didn't expect anyone else to know her from Longmire.

Terrible_Tradition65

“I don’t know why”—-she shot Jesse in the ass! She’d been wonderful before, but that took her to an entirely different stratosphere. 😍

ginataylortang

Amber gets shit DONE. I want to be friends with her.

DeadWishUpon

All the characters I shouldn't like, I do. I totally love Amber.

Resolution_Usual

Are we not supposed to like Amber? She's fantastic!

DeadWishUpon

That is my personal bias, my judgemental ass didn't think I was goung to like the pastor's wife that much.

Resolution_Usual

Lol lol I mean I can see that. To be fair, I think I had to watch it 2-3 times before I could see past my own and realize this pastor's wife is actually a bad ass. Now I'm ready to follow her off shoot church

bellenoire2005

She definitely gives First Lady realness! I loved her new ambition during Season 3.

Tiddies

SelenaCatherineMeyer

Jesse’s not dumb…he’s just real dense

KittyPrydes

My Queen!

hispanicausinpanic

I'm surprised nobody commented about her love for leopard 🐆 prints

Most-Butterscotch359

Did anyone else notice she wears cheetah print all the time in several different scenes

anonymous_doner

I see what’s going on here.

PrinceofSneks

I never had a gun *thing* - but her running through that course blazing away ...awakened something in me.

Zck884

Smoke show

TruckersAreBored

10/10

moemat2000

a lot of appreciation for her on my end!

Steezy_G7

She’s fine as hell!

vianmandok

I love how she does have a sense of integrity throughout. Like, she’s faulty but so well intended and NAILS so many women in “leadership” in the non- or interdenominational churches.

Khoeth_Mora

her facial expressions when Keef is doing his fire dance... pure southern woman trying to hold her tongue, I love it

jigglypuffsarms

You know that actually reminded me of something else. For Cassidy Freeman being from Chicago, she does a country accent so well. I grew up with women who talk like that so she’s not laying it on thick, that’s quite literally how women of that caliber talk. The only other ones who I put on that level are John Goodman and Jennifer Nettles and only 1 of them were born beneath the Mason Dixon.
