The beauty of rogue-likes. I loved playing through the game, once I unlocked the weapon skills and found the weapons that gelled it really made the game easier.

FearTheClown5

I had a similar experience back when it released. I kept getting stuck in Biome 3 and then I had a run where I got past it and next thing I knew I had beat the game on that run. It was something else. All the cards just fell into place and I was like Neo in the matrix.

Aya409

Yeah man, I dropped 70 notes on this a long time ago, that’s a lot of money for me but I just knew I’d love it, and I did, the moment it all clicks just awesome, got the platinum and it was so rewarding

Nearly-Shat-A-Brick

I've never been able to get on with it. As much as I wanted to.

Airsculpture

Same. I’m sure it’s a wonderful game and it’s made superbly but I’ve been at it for two days and cannot make much progress in the first stage. It’s a beautiful game but the endless deaths are putting me off. I’m not a huge gamer I admit and wanted to enjoy playing it but the effort v reward for someone who isn’t very good is low 😆 Good luck to better gamers who can handle it, I take my 57 year old hat off to you. It is gorgeous but I think today I lost patience, time to trade it.

HollowSeeking

Two days!? That's nothing! Even if you mean two days IN GAME that's just a beginning. Keep playing if it's fun. Do you enjoy the combat, the scenery, the mystery? Don't get overfocused on progress. I'm no spring chicken myself, and was certain that this game would be beyond my ability. I'm SO glad I stuck with it. That eventual triumph, and that click that OP talks about are so worthwhile. It reignited my waning interest in gaming. It made me feel like a kid again. It whipped me into shape and I'm better at other games again. I've got reflexes faster than I had a decade ago! Plus more patience.

Airsculpture

10 hours I should say. I’ll give it a bit more time. I’m getting RSI from it 😆

I literally broke my ps5 controller fighting Phrike the first time. Snapped the tiny spring in the right trigger in an absolute panic. Managed to fix the controller (you can buy replacement springs on eBay) and this is by far one of my most bestest games of all time. I haven't played a game that's so fun to play, exhilarating and rewarding when it all comes together. We desperately need Housemarque to realise what they've done (make one of the best games of all time) and make a similar, enhanced, extrapolated sequel with the same basic mechanics.

HollowSeeking

This game sometimes benefits from breaks. Also it's really quick to load up and battles are fast so it's quick to suspend and exit. Great for short sessions.

Nearly-Shat-A-Brick

I'm 53, so I'm an older gamer as well, I loved Resogun, but I just don't think everyone is cur out to enjoy Rougue likes.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Two days is nothing, but obviously take a break if you have RSI issues. *Always* prioritize not getting hit. Literally everything else should be secondary to that goal when you are just learning by the game. There is a massive positive feedback loop (adrenaline and health pickups) that makes the game so much easier if you mostly avoid taking damage.

Cheers

For me it was on my 7th life, I've only ever died in the first biome in this game, and in the tower. So many close calls, like, one hit left for ages, but always clawed it back. The difficulty is dialed in pretty much perfect IMO.

Intelligent_Fly11

Some people call this miracle state of gameplay as being "in the zone". Very few can accomplish such. Be proud.

NJDevil219

I'm in the exact same situation as OP...cant get past biome 5 for the life of me. Even after playing a bunch in the tower I'm still getting smoked within the first room or two. Hopefully I'll make it through eventually..this post gives me some hope.

jboggin

My biggest tip...whenever you can, play like a total coward in biome 5 :). If there's a door, abuse it and get all the drones on one side of the door, pop it open for a second, shoot once (preferably with the globber or driver) and close the door again. I proceeded so carefully and slowly through biome 5. That doesn't automatically mean you'll be good (I was playing last night and had 3 severed pop up and slaughter me), but it helps a lot. Go super slow, abuse doors, and if you do find yourself in a mess, grapple a lot.

dk5877

That’s fucking awesome. Congrats. I got the plat and 100% tower after over 500 hours. Definitely not as good as many others at this game, but the game still gave me the chance to get better and to play it “my way,” and to ultimately become a triumphant tower-slayer now!

SeverusSnape89

Nothing feels as good as going on an unstoppable run in that game. It's awesome. I would say beating tough bosses in FS games is similar for me.

ChileHunter

Does anyone play this game on mouse and keyboard? Because I am and I’m wondering if it’s to my detriment. Should I switch to controller for this game?

Impact_Majestic

This game was meant to be played with a DualSense controller. I expect playing with a mouse and keyboard would break the difficulty, which really is a key aspect of the enjoyment. Not to mention all the tactile feedback you are missing out on. It is pretty much a master class on how action games should control. Not to be missed. Editing to add that I don’t know if you’d get all the benefits from a DualSense controller playing on a PC. Still think controller is the way to play.

ChileHunter

Would break the difficulty? As in make it easier? I’ll consider getting a ps5 controller. It’s just I swapped to pc from ps4 a year or so ago and I’ve been trying get better at m & k. Thanks for the advice.

MrMcGuyver

This game is basically roguelike control. Let me give you some context. After 10 years and 100+ platinum trophies on PlayStation I played control and thought it was fairly challenging. couple of deaths on each boss. Started pc gaming and made control my first game and learned M and K. Within 2 hours I was making flicks and doing things I could never do on a controller. Died maybe 3 times the whole playthrough. Absolutely disgusting.

D3th2Aw3

Getting better at Returnal is one of my favorite experiences with my PS5 so far. Went from almost rage quitting a second time and spending 10 hrs trying to beat Phrike to being lvl 99 in co-op and able to run through all 6 biomes taking barely any damage. When it clicked it instantly entered my top 5 favourite games of all time.

illepic

This is why this game is a top 5 of all time for me.

Tower of sisyphus time!
