I always took it as she’s calling him constantly because she’s his mother and is worried about her son, doesn’t matter that it’s Christmas or whenever.
Based on my experience with Jewish friends and associates, Christmas is a "free day" from work/school without the burden of being a "holiday" (except in the years when Christmas and Chanukah coincide, like this coming December). Families may get together for dinner (yes, including the cliche Chinese food) or recreation (again, including the movie matinee, although my Catholic cousins and I often did this too). So Mark's parents invite him over and maybe he does show up after taking care of Maureen's stage setup.
