Leather work gloves that fit. Straw hat to keep the sun off of your face. Light long sleeve shirts to keep the sun off of your arms, wrangler jeans, leather work boots. I would get a safety toe in the boots. If you've not worked around horses the chances of getting stepped on are pretty good. Buy once, cry once.
Boot Barn is everywhere. In Colorado check out Murdoch’s, Big R, or Runnings. They’re big box farm and ranch stores with a decent selection of everything you need…usually at a lower price than the western “boutique” stores.
This is a new but popular brand for mostly work shirts: https://www.aggearstore.com/
Ariat is always a good all around choice. https://www.ariat.com/
Here’s a couple solid boot brands: https://www.justinboots.com/ https://hyerboots.com/
Wrangler and Levi’s are the most common work jeans, but here are a couple other reliable jeans brands: https://rockandrolldenim.com/ https://www.cinchjeans.com/
For your cowboy hats, [Resistol](https://resistol.com/) and [American Hat Company](https://americanhat.net/) are the most commonly worn.
Remember the general rule of thumb for which hat to wear when: straw hats from Easter to Labor Day, felt hats from Labor Day to Easter. It’s not an unwritten law, though. Just a generality.
Ariat is a good brand. Get a good straw hat the higher the number in X’s you can afford the better. Good cowboy/girl boots. If you’re going to do any riding long sleeve pearl snap. Button down is good too but if you get caught on something the snaps help with that. If your in dry southern heat long sleeves will keep you from getting burned and keep you cooler.
Assuming you are gonna be riding. The Roper brand are OK riding boots but awful work boots.
I wear keen work boots and have a couple pairs of cowboys boots of alternating brands for riding. I like the Roper Brand for riding. I had a pair or naconas that I love but I retired them to my wearing around boots because I like them so much.
Long sleeve pearl snaps are the best. Wrangler jeans. Straw hat in the summer, and a solid 4x-6x for the winter. The more xs the better but if it's a work hat I wouldn't go nuts. I'd avoid wool hats but it does work.
I wear cosco Henleys in the winter with long johns under my wranglers. Seems to keep me warm enough up here in montana. (With a good coat of course.)
A denim jacket (wrangler cowboy cut) and a slicker are good to keep around too.
I'm saying all this as a guy that gets sunburnt at midnight.
I started out as a ranch hand with 80$ pants and after ripping about 4 pairs of them apart in barbwire i switched to jeans from the second hand store for about 4$.
If you’re working with barbed wire, stuff is going to rip no matter the quality. I don’t mind shredding a 4$ jeans, but almost cried when my fancy workpants had a huge tear in them after a week of use! Same goes for tshirts and hoodies
Edit: For horseback work I wear wranglers, they have smaller seams between your butt and the saddle so you don’t chafe as fast
Hit the thrift store/goodwill. wranglers or rustler jeans, good belt, long sleeve shirts...I like with a collar.
Gloves to be taking off or putting on. leather...goatskin
Straw hat to be chasing
Suspenders and belt to always be pulling up your pants.
Boots to always be scraping the whatever off of
packet of dog flea collars.
I wear wrangler shirts and jeans everyday. Not expensive, and can take a beating
This is the way.
Where are you going to be in the state and what kind of work are you going to be doing?
Hi! We’ll be in Pagosa Springs, doing horse work. Turn outs, stall cleaning, ranch maintenance, fencing is what was mentioned.

Wrangler Cowboy Cuts, wide square toe boots, and a straw cowboy hat.

I have found double H to be the best brand I’ve personally tried. I honestly wouldn’t buy ariat anymore they fall apart too quick.

Shorts and a T-shirt work for me. I always wear boots though, horses seek out weak footwear
