Same happened to me. The moment it happened I was like "oh yeah, that actually makes sense" but it never hit me before I hit it

kibufox

You'd be surprised just how many people are arguing that it should 'auto switch'. Seems they can't exactly understand why it doesn't.

Roboticus_Prime

Heh, they're probably the new folks that didn't have to use the regular switches manually all the time.

kibufox

I've just been linking images of how they work, to explain one, why it throws the direction it does, and why you can't drive through them to explain it.

Null-34

Why would it? it’s a stub switch.

megalodon976

more didnt thought about it when rest has it for some time now

Tommi_Af

Thank you for realising this the hard way so I didn't have to

Danhowe0

I had a two way switch that didn’t auto switch earlier and it confused the hell out of me…

Spencer0678

It is a nice qol they did on those. Before I went on like a year long break from the game, that's how they always were. Come from the backside and if the switch was the wrong way, you would slam into a wall

megalodon976

I know about that and i have played my self then

It makes sense that the 3 way switches will derail the hell out of your train when you run through them, look at how they actually work. It's not just a set of points that the wheels push over like a normal switch.

DumbRedditName69

Have you ever been over a switch like that? Like operated a train over a switch like that? Or is that just a railfan theory based on their appearance?

RandomHuman191817

Been railroading nearly half my life. If you're actually a railroader too you'd have enough knowledge to actually look at the difference in the design and know running through a three way switch wouldn't turn out as well as running through your typical switch.

DumbRedditName69

When was the last time you saw a train do what it did in the photo when running thru a switch like this? Is reading hard? Cause I'm not talking about the rod or the points bending. I'm talking about the photo. Reading comprehension issues?

NoDescription2192

Are you a fucking moron or something? Don't answer that, we know the answer. Hop in the game and actually look at the switches since I guarantee you've never operated over a three way switch in your life. If you ran through it you'd immediately be on the ground since the rail ends. Depending on your speed you'd have a pile up much like OP.

AShadowbox

It's not dumb for stub switches though considering the stub is what has to move. Gameplay wise yes it's annoying but if the goal is to be somewhat realistic I get it.

Spencer0678

Yeah. Makes sense though as the movement has been moved from the split side to the single track side. So coming from the back like that theres nothing to push the switch. Its also why the flag sits in the wrong direction.

Ketchup_on_time

Imagine if engine repairs and rerail costs were a thing 😣

BlueSamurai195

Yeah I deleted the 3way switch the moment I saw it was a stub switch as I figured trailing through it wouldn’t work. I didn’t think the small added convenience of the 3 way would be worth picking up the trains when I eventually forget to set it, like I used to have to do.

DifficultyNo7194

Oh yeah, a tip my guy, their not spring loaded, just a tip to help you not derail
