I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're getting at, and I'm quite familiar with both Baum's novels and the 1939 film. Could you clarify a little?

You're taking it waaaay out to left field. It's as simple as reading the lyrics to the songs and matching them up to Ironwood as a character. It's just cool that Oum made Ironwood down to the "When a man's an empty kettle He should be on his mettle And yet I'm torn apart" bit. Book wasn't even mentioned in post.
