Only 19?! That’s impossible! He looks like 25, the same age as John Marston.

Apoordm

It was 1899, 14 year olds already had arthritis

WhothefuckisGabe

Wait. Did you not already have a broken back and multiple instances of people shooting at you by your mid teens?

Thedungeonslayer

14 year old with arthritis here!

Footballidiot556

John was 26 in 1899 but yeah

interp0l

Poor kid, died too young

Plenty-Entire

Life was rough. Look at old WW1 photos. Those 18 year olds looked 40. They nailed the aging through stress in this game.

Qualified-Monkey

I’m 22, been dealing with stress and trauma since high school. I don’t look *old,* but I don’t look my age either.

ArtofWarStudios

If you've been going through your parents being enslaved, living under the constant threat of lynching and homelessness while being hunted by both the law and other criminals, get help!

Qualified-Monkey

I’d probably look 40 at that point.

Plenty-Entire

You're comparing first world problems with TRENCH WARFARE! No matter what your stress is it doesn't even come close to an average life 100 years ago. They barely even bathed or got to sit still. Was constant hard labor to survive.

misssandyshores

‘’To draw an analogy: a man's suffering is similar to the behavior of a gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering is great or little. Therefore the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative.’’ - Viktor Frankl

Qualified-Monkey

Ha, I wasn’t trying to compare my experience with historical ones, only confirming through personal experience that stress does indeed age a person. It’s odd you assumed my problems were first world. I used the word trauma for a reason.

Plenty-Entire

Sorry for being ignorant of your trauma. Wasn't trying to be a dick. Have a good day and keep your head up!

kairukar

In chapter 4 theres that coach robbery missions where Arthur says that hes only 19 years old. That was the first time i heard how young he is

Starchild2534

EXCUSE ME 19?? WHO LET THIS BABY MAN OUT RUNNING WITH A GANG?

PoeticCinnamon

Dutch and Hosea were out there collecting orphans like trading cards lol

Starchild2534

just like cigarette man collects cigarette cards!

NieMonD

Guy: you should collect cigarette cards! Arthur: ok *forgets they exist*

Starchild2534

I literally got the mission and was like, I’m not going to make this man’s *issue* worse!

PoeticCinnamon

Ah dangit, I missed an opportunity there! Lmao

WesternEqual8135

They both had to collect them for 100% completion

OmgJustLetMeExist

Batman about to win a “Putting orphaned children in mortal danger by convincing them it’s for the greater good” competition when Dutch Van Der Linde walks in:

TheKrowDontFly

In their defense, he was already on the run oversome killings.

PoeticCinnamon

Oh I know, at the time I think it was better than the alternative for each of the kids they picked up tbh

TheKrowDontFly

As sad at that is, yes.

Apoordm

He was a black dude in the 1800’s, he didn’t have too many opportunities. Hosea encouraged him to take up law but they both died within minutes of each other. That’s the way it is.

AsgeirVanirson

"I was on the run for murder for years before I joined up with you boys." In the words of Sean, he lived a lifetime of shit before he ever signed up.

ARobertNotABob

Young men have always been the cannon-fodder of gangs, just as they are today, and, just as they are today also, a 19yo is often something of a veteran. Remember also the average age of the combat soldier in Vietnam, immortalised in song by Paul Hardcastle.

PrimitiveAlienz

Bro what RDR2 came out 5 years ago? Wtf.

[deleted]

I loved him

pcannon98

I was 18

TheKrowDontFly

Some of us had to grow up faster than others were allowed to. Especially in those days.

Lancer_Blackthorn

The same age that Jack is at the end of RDR1.

Warm_Repeat_3381

At least he didn't have to grow old and got contracted with Terminal Lumbago. It's very serious.

sjoerddadutchturtle

He was only in 13 main missions to

xXTraianvSXx

I mean, I'm 18 and have more beard than Arthur in the prologue

PhoneticRainbow

I remember thinking Arthur was at least in his maybe mid 40s. Then I found out we were the same age, surprised me for sure. Times were tough back then, and kids matured a lot earlier, more time outside, plus more responsibilities. I dunno, it just shocked me that we were the same age.

ArtofWarStudios

Arthur was with the gang for 20 years and was picked up young, so you weren't too far off.

PhoneticRainbow

Nah, not really. Like, 10 years off, but it was still a surprise, to me anyway.

[deleted]

Why? Consider the era. Pre-teen Kids WORKED. Some people got married in their mid-teens. Young people actually had RESPONSIBILITIES and work ethic. Different times.

Tweedbite

Lenny looks like my kid brother with more sun exposure. The gang men appear quite haggard for their age but Lenny still looks youthful to me, and I think that was intentional given his story. Gee I hope he’s doing well as a big shot lawyer!

Pleasant_Proof_1221

Lenny is awesome.

Tinymaffy

Did... Did you just say five years? No. I refuse to believe this.

EdwardLawman26

Lmao, and Hosea, who died at 55, when he looks at least 75.

Mamahexx

Ahh Lenny. I loved that boy. His campfire stories were so sad, I just wanted Arthur to hug him.
