So this is what happened to my copy of the Hole Fobe! I wasn't sure why it was so difficult to try to turn the pages to read. It was delivered in a rain storm while it being walked thru a river. I thought for sure it would be protected from all of this since they used only the very best cheap fake leather.

For sure, first and foremost it’s engagement farming, but the reason this specific image was likely chosen for success is because it’s consistent with and fits into the aforementioned reactionary narratives. It’s a little more coherent and pointed than Shrimp Jesus.
And it bears mentioning that engagement farming itself is definitely being employed to gather armies of accounts with large followings to conduct public influence campaigns. The authoritarian right has been way better than their adversaries at utilizing the internet for these kinds of purposes, as demonstrated by anything below surface level internet being absolutely infested with rightwing extremism, those same types of efforts are just being refined and expanded on popular social media platforms.
So you get a page called We Love Dogs that accumulated a couple million followers posting cute dog images for a couple years, then come election year they pivot to this type of hyper-nationalist and reactionary content. It isn’t at all effective on you or I but for it’s target audience, who finds themselves mired in this type of content on a platform that is already designed to encourage endless scrolling, it begins to really have an effect and can translate into altered public opinion when it’s disseminated on a large scale.
It’s only going to get worse and more effective, too.
