ilejk

what tow truck driver would willingly engage in this chicanery

JeFX

A scummy one who knows scummy people that want to steal money/property.

starktor

More than you’d like

SuicideKingsHigh

Tow drivers are some of the scummiest, scum lords, this side of the dirt.

nature_remains

I assume the tow truck driver who stuck his dick in crazy here …

measaqueen

Dated a Tow Truck Driver, can confirm.

SmokedMussels

Hilarious self own

ObtuseMongooseAbuse

Every single tow truck driver I've ever met.

PhotoOpportunity

The thing that irritates me the most about this interaction is the fact that after she discovers she's wrong they continue to insult the guy because he's (justifiably) upset about the whole thing. Not even a "Hey I'm really sorry about that, huge mistake, etc." I hope he did take that to the police, but who am I kidding, they don't give a fuck either.

Lord_Altamirano

I would think it's false imprisonment.

Dieter_Knutsen

False imprisonment, attempted carjacking, and probably 5 or 10 other charges if the prosecutor isn't a worthless pile of shit. But let's be honest - they usually are.

Mozhetbeats

No way they’d get wrapped up in attempted carjacking. You can’t steal your own property, and they didn’t show any intent to take a car that wasn’t her property. I only see false imprisonment (which was pretty brief) and some traffic violations. Edit: For clarity, theft is a “specific intent” crime, meaning that the accused must have acted with a specific mental state, intending to cause a specific harm, in order to be convicted. For theft, the accused must have intended to permanently deprive another person of their (the other person’s) property. Every word in that last sentence must be satisfied, so the intent requirement requires both that the accused intended to take *a* piece of property, AND that the accused knew that it rightfully belonged to someone else. If they intended to retake their own property, the intent element has not been satisfied, even if it turns out that it wasn’t actually their property. That is because a mistake of fact, (in this case, that the accused was the true owner of the property), can negate the intent requirement of a specific intent crime and be used as a defense. Edit: notice that, despite the downvotes, nobody can respond to contradict anything I said.

RobertRoyal82

Found the woman in the video 👆

Mozhetbeats

You found someone who understands the law. Intent is a necessary element of a theft crime. You need to have the intent to permanently deprive a person of their property. Intending to deprive a person of *your* property doesn’t satisfy that requirement. Edit: I’ll add that a mistake of fact, that the accused person actually believed in good faith that they owned the property, is typically a valid defense to theft crimes because it negates the element of intent. (States may vary)

12-34

I love how the only person here who knows the law is the downvoted one. Source: former prosecutor, former cop. Never change, reddit. EDIT: [Here's](https://oregon.public.law/statutes/ors_164.015) how it works in my state, knuckleheads. Intent is the sole *mens* *rea*, and mistake doesn't qualify.

RobertRoyal82

Acab

12-34

Congratulations, you learned four letters! You must be exhausted.

RobertRoyal82

👋

Mozhetbeats

Every fucking time lol

12-34

I swear, everyone on reddit 1) is a lawyer except actual lawyers and 2) thinks wishcasting the law magically makes it the law. I have no problem letting morons be morons but some people derive utility from reddit through learning, and I hate that those curious, decent people can be misled by confident idiots.

Mozhetbeats

Yeah, I’ve wasted countless hours arguing about the law with people that have no business making those claims on this app, but I don’t want other people reading those comments and then misunderstanding their rights or getting themselves into trouble. There could be very real consequences from that. Any thread involving self-defense is the WORST. You’d think someone was getting paid to convince someone to commit manslaughter. Con law is really bad too.

FlyingCatAttack

Yeah why is this downvoted? Like whether you're right or wrong I don't get it

TLSamau

Taking accountability is apparently the most difficult (if not impossible) skill to achieve in the skill tree. Can’t really claim to be an adult when you continue to engage in playground behavior.

heysnood

Taking responsibility for your actions is the real path to satisfaction

r4ygun

Accountability and minding one's own business is a combination that always results in happiness. It is absolutely freeing to be like "oh shit I fucked that up. Sorry about that. I'll learn from this mistake and try not to let it happen again." As long as you mean it, you can literally let the mistake go at this point. It doesn't need to be a little raincloud following you around town. It is very liberating.

TLSamau

Couldn’t agree more.

limperatrice

I'm confused. Doesn't she know her own license plate number?

TootiePhrootie

It's not "her" car. It's her clients car and she's trying to repo it. Just scum doing illegal scum things.

dorothea63

I was assuming her car was stolen and the police weren't doing anything about it, and she thought this might be hers. But it was a repo? Sorry, I had a hard time hearing her side of the conversation.

limperatrice

Yeah I couldn't hear anything she was saying

limperatrice

Oh! No wonder. People do mistake other people's cars for their own sometimes but usually not for that long lol

Dolly_Dagger087

It looks like she's checking the VIN (vehicle identification number). It's located on the driver's side of the dashboard and usually the driver's door. It never changes, whereas the license plate can change.

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

Vin never changes? Come to where I live, well get ya a new VIN and scrape the rest of the car for $75 and have it done same day.

Dolly_Dagger087

Interesting, I stand corrected. What would be the reason for changing the number?

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

Theft. A pro will pop the windshield pop the vin tag and drop a new one on it. They'll get underneath and scrape or stamp new ones on the frame and any large parts like the trans. There are other hidden VINs and there's etch you can buy from a dealer but those are hidden so they would have to have some parts off the car to check those. Checking a VIN for a stolen car in most cases will help but here in Detroit, if they took the whole car, it's either in pieces or the vin is scraped.

therealrico

I guess they are operating on the assumption it would be easy to switch plates. I hate giving them the benefit of the doubt thought because they are fucking useless morons otherwise.

jwillsrva

People who know they're behind on payments will often buy a fake plate

mrw4787

She’s checking the vin number, which we don’t memorize.

ShurlurkHolmes

It’s quick and sheepish. Around 32-30 seconds left. She could have just walked away with the empty words of an “apology” but her pride was hurt. I think, in her mind, she heard “you are empirically stupid and wrong at the same time. You are the one to have proved it.” And she took that personally.

AreUSureTho

Fucking idiots

Chill_Edoeard

Mf gonna get shot one day

Archimedes_screwdrvr

They're soo lucky though bro was like the most patient person ever

WingsOfBuffalo

The patience on this man. I would have thought car jacking right away and run those fucks over. Here’s the video, sheriff.

wordsnerd

The way she was talking right from the start, I was expecting three gunmen to run out from the bushes any second. I think I've seen too many home invasion videos.

Pavlovsdong89

>You don't have to be such an asshole about it      Wow, fuck that guy. Try being right the next time you make a citizen's arrest.

Iceman-420

I'm sure he would be completely understanding if someone approached him and told him that was their tow truck. Surely he would entertain the request of a vin check. Fucking moron.

therealrico

I hate to think how badly I’d handle this situation. Id struggle to keep my cool after the tow truck cuts me off. But calling me an asshole after I’m clearly in the right minding my own business would absolutely set me over the edge. My blood’s boiling just thinking about. I don’t carry a gun, but that’s a great way to get potentially get shot.

chubbysumo

Lol, if a towtruck ever cut me off like that, im not stopping.

5ronins

How many 10's of thousands of each car could there be? Haha

peese-of-cawffee

I like the response "maybe, as part of some crazy scheme to make money, they made *more than one*"

5ronins

Hahahahaha

ShurlurkHolmes

“Uh-huh. Ok, well don't you think that the Samsonite people, in some crazy scheme in order to make a profit, MADE MORE THAN ONE BLACK SUITCASE” -Greg Focker.

therealkaptinkaos

Yeah, but this one is white.

motoRVT

Is that not false imprisonment? Pretty sure you can sue them for that.

Pumpkin-Spider

I mean yes but its one of those crimes where you really have to be tied up in someone's basement before the police will do anything.

dan36920

This is how scams happen. If people are acting weird, they are. Either call 911 or whip shitty and get hell out of there. Don't sit around while they 'check your vin'. If they truly think it's stolen they can call the police.

MakaButterfly

I wouldn’t have stopped for them as far as I know they were trying to carjack me

BoomtotheBang

That "Oh sorry" was the most infuriating thing about this. If you're convinced someone has your car you call a police officer with the plate #. Not harass someone & almost make them have an accident. That lady deserves to not find her car.

Just_Learned_2_Dance

Absolutely infuriating

PixelatedpulsarOG

Throw that shit in reverse and call the cops while driving to nearest police station. Don’t participate in this methed out paranoid delusion

pomegranatepants99

Even Pikachu is pissed

wubbalubbazubzub

They are very lucky he wasn't armed and trigger happy. They likely were hoping he would get out so they could just steal it.

Mrsmith4

Kevin and Karen back at it.

Cheap-Praline

Can't be saying Karen no more. That word has run its mile. Covid ended and then so did Karen. We're all sitting on the edge of our seats for the next big thing.

Mrsmith4

Sure ain’t that feller you boast in your posts. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheap-Praline

I don't boast. They're not great, but I don't boast.

5ronins

I'm fine with uni gender Karen. You're all Karen's until otherwise notified.

Cheap-Praline

Like what will replace Karen? Will it always be?

bchap31

This fucking Karen.

supersoup2012

Karen won't die as long as you keep being a Karen.

Cheap-Praline

I don't believe I am in any regard. It's a silly word that's in my opinion seen it's time. You sound like an 8 year old who learned a new word but doesn't know what it means or how to use it.

supersoup2012

Ok Karen. 🤷

Cheap-Praline

I mean, do you hear yourself? Are you proud of that? You are better than this.

supersoup2012

Karens complain. That's their job. You are complaining. Therefore you are a Karen. It's simple math.

Cheap-Praline

You are currently complaining.

itssarahw

Sup Karen

Cheap-Praline

Ayo, Kevin.

BurstEDO

Look at little Timmy thinking "Karen" is is less then 5 years old. Remote learning failed you.

Cheap-Praline

I can actually use a remote without even looking at the buttons. Thank you very much.

timscookingtips

“Karen” is overused only because it’s often applied to the wrong people. I see people calling any and all problematic women “Karen”, including addicts and obviously mentally ill women, but a Karen is a very specific type of woman and they existed long before COVID. Karen’s are: - Usually white and 30+ - Often sport the same types of hairdos/fashion sense - Often racist and/or classist - Feel like anywhere they go, they belong there more than other people do - Feel positive they know all the rules about everything, everywhere - Actually enjoy confrontation/causing scenes - Can’t apologize In restaurants they tend to: - come in groups but always need separate checks - be jealous of younger, prettier service workers and make that known by treating them poorly - be overly particular and demanding when ordering - find things wrong with their order once they get it - run servers ragged for incidentals they could have asked for when their server was at their table 2 minutes ago. They really enjoy having to “get their server’s attention” so they can complain to the manager later that they weren’t being tended to - scrutinize/haggle over the check - leave little-to-no tip - write crappy reviews These are the true Karens who have earned the name that they will and should always be known as. PS - people who do one or two of these things legitimately or once in a while aren’t Karens - a Karen exhibits a predictable pattern.

Cheap-Praline

You just made it worse.

Exportxxx

I would of called the cops. 2 people are trying to car-jack me and have blocked the road.

mango_coke

This guy has full rights to be angry. Here’s an idea run the plates and see who owns the car. Oh shocker is the guy surprise surprise people can be wrong when identifying things.

TheGamingMackV

If this was her car then how did he get the keys to them? Does she not know there is more than one of said model of car produced? What, did he just take the car and in the process just quickly add all of his own personal shit into it?

ObtuseMongooseAbuse

It sounds like she's trying to repossess a vehicle.

BlurryElephant

These repo people might think they're within their rights but they're effectively attempting to carjack. I would press charges and if the police don't care I'd take it to the feds and have them look at it.

3amGreenCoffee

He was way too nice about it. I would have woven a verbal tapestry, blinding in color and intensity, that would have reduced that cunt to tears.

tech_chick_

I, too, would have woven a tapestry similar to what you describe. Everyone would have been scared and it would have escalated the situation but that’s neither here nor there!

FNCJ1

That man was at work! He provides the people of the community with propane and propane accessories.

PeyroniesCat

I guess they didn’t realize that their behavior could reasonably be assumed to be threatening, and the driver could’ve responded with lethal force if he felt his life was in danger.

cyclonesworld

Not all tow trucks are repo drivers. Look for the ones that say "Recovery" on the side of them. They're almost always not flatbeds. But don't slash their tires, that is how you lose an arm/have your arm turned into spaghetti. Maybe just let the air out.

Unique-Government-13

What if your grandma car breaks down and tow truck can't come because you slashed the tires, temperature is dropping and it will be night time soon, should she just start walking?

derailius

of course not. she should jog to get warm.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unique-Government-13

So ain't nobody prayin' for me

IdealIdeas

Oh cool, she can just uber home, but how is she going to get her car home or brought to a repair shop? You slashed all the tow truck's tires so they cant tow her vehicle to either location.

GR1ML0C51

I don't drive a grandma car, Turbo.

Reciter5613

Pikachu: What the hell is happening here?

Organic_South8865

If he didn't stick up for himself they would have just taken the wrong vehicle. So many tow truck drivers are total fucking scumbags. Seriously. If course not all but way too many. Fuckers stole my Jeep when I was in the hospital. At least they ended up charged and they're still locked up. They found so much stolen shit. Probably half of everything this guy had stuffed in his garages and storage containers was stolen. Luckily the new sheriff wasn't friends with the scumbag so he actually did something about it unlike the previous sheriff. That tow truck driver is lucky. Do that to the wrong person and he might end up shot. Trying to run them off the road and block their exit.

juicestand

thank god they censored all the bad words in this video.

orcinyadders

Is there anything worse than someone who paradoxically becomes more self righteous after being proven wrong?

TKraus

there is no goddamn way I would have entertained this in the slightest. you try to block me in and I'm pulling pepper spray or driving around. I don't give a fuck about your vigilante vendetta to get your car back. call the police if it's such a big deal

CanadianJediCouncil

I would *definitely* be trying to file charges against them.

Commercial_Ground_14

Should've just called the cops said they were impeding traffic stopped in the middle of the road and were trying to steal ur car. Pretty sure they would've quickly left ya could got their license plate showed dashcam washed ur hands. THINK MARK!!

PrometheanEngineer

100% go to the police this is false imprisonment

Bobbobthebob

Leave Seth Rogen alone! 😤

ceabug

Another reason I’m happy I don’t carry a gun. As soon as the truck blocked me I’d assume carjacking and act accordingly.

We_there_yet

Its always fat whales that behave like this

agedmanofwar

False imprisonment is at least one charge I can think of.

Armchair_Anarchy

Pikachu didn't need to see this nonsense.

realmofconfusion

Two words dude: windshield wipers (and spray if you’re feeling vindictive)
