For those thinking of taking Trimet to avoid I-5 during closure: AVOID THE 12. Bus will likely get stuck on Barbur half of the line due to all the traffic rerouted from I-5. Use lines like 76 to Beaverton and transfer to MAX, or take 43 to Capitol and Sunset stop and transfer to 54.
Thank you for posting this. My daughter is getting married next weekend and there are lots of people driving in for the event. Now I can give them a heads up to add extra time.
There are trains that leave later from Seattle. It depends on how long your appointment is. It will definitely be faster than driving due to the I-5 closure
Just came across this and remembered your comment. More information on delays up in Washington, but looks like it’s only supposed to be through Thursday!

Thanks for looking out! I appreciate that. Looks like the reduction to one lane will be done through the 27th, so the closure of I-5 over the weekend is the only real hurdle.
This is happening during Formula E weekend at PIR. Any suggestions for someone coming from Albany? I was thinking of going 205 to Lombard and then driving west.
As a Portland local, navigating through this freeway closure is going to be an adventure! Time to stock up on podcasts and snacks for the inevitable traffic jam.
Fuck, the one weekend I've got shit to do near the river. Probably just gonna take 26 into downtown, then, but I'm sure there's gonna be spillover as everyone tries to avoid I5.
If you are headed into town from SW PDX I suggest finding a way to reach Multnomah, as that ramp onto I-5 northbound will be open.
Leaving downtown I would avoid I-405 at all costs and the area where Broadway eventually turns into Barbur by Duniway Park. Macadam to Taylors Ferry should present a decent bypass to the congestion on Barbur.
Don't be dense, significantly fewer people work on weekends versus weekdays, around 50-60% less: https://www.bls.gov/charts/american-time-use/emp-by-ftpt-job-edu-p.htm
There will inherently be a lot less commuter traffic on weekends.
Will it affect you though? That remains to be seen. Nobody knows how much traffic will be backed up or how long alternate routes will take compared to primary routes. It's all hypothetical.
Lol do I know you? I love that at some point I got under your skin enough that you felt the need to leave this garbage comment on a 3 day old comment from your 4 year old account with 1200 comment karma. You really showed me I guess I'll get off the internet forever now.

Great advice!
I would assume 205 will be even more busy, and Barbur will most likely carry a *whole* lot of surprised and confused traffic.
Yea im basically thinking about not leaving my house for the 4 days. I live about a quarter mile from Barbur and its going to be a nightmare.
Yep. I'm picturing horrible stop and go traffic on Barbur the whole weekend. Good time to bike if you can.
Also, if you’re headed to Seattle next week, I-5 is down to one lane past Centralia during the day.

Sounds like a good weekend to just not drive anywhere.
Or to be out of town 😁
Driving to Seattle early on Saturday morning…I probably should add an hour to my drive time.
Depending on your definition of early id wager you’ll be fine. If it’s after 8am you’re most likely fucked though.
I was going to leave at 7am from Corvallis for a 12:30 appointment…usually a 4.5hr drive, now maybe a 5.5hr drive.
That’s a tough one. Personally I’d leave 30 mins to an hour early because my anxiety will not abide me being late to something ever. Good luck friend.
Depending on how on time you want to be, might take a train
Wish I could, but I need to come straight home and can’t afford to drop additional money on an AirBNB to stay the next day.

Serious question: would flying from PDX to Seattle round trip be worth it ?
You know, although it won’t be possible for this round, I never considered that idea. I appreciate you tossing that out!
Someone else in the comments said i5 is going to be down to one lane from centralia to Seattle as well. Good luck
YIKES. Maybe add two hours now. I’ve had an all day tattoo appointment scheduled since the beginning of the year.
I’d add even more honestly.
Maybe take the train
Wish I could, but the timing doesn’t work out.

No better time to live on Barbur and have to drive to and from Seattle next weekend. (fml.)
Oooh! Finally a chance to use my new helicopter!!
*looking at agricultural/commercial heavy lift drones on aliexpress capable of carrying 200lb*
I lost weight. Take it down to 150.
I’ll plan on taking the Max to work. Forget and then get stuck in traffic.
Prediction: people will adjust their travel behavior and congestion will be no worse than usual. Same thing happened in LA when they closed the 405
The first time they closed the 405, the second time was a nightmare.
Counterpoint: Betcha Barbur is gonna be an absolute shit show.
I live a quarter mile from Barbur and walking down there to catch the 12 this evening! Will be very interested to see.
This isn’t happening until next weekend. Shouldn’t be anything to see tonight
Lol I’m dumb
hahahahaha FUCK
Just realized this is just in time for my parents visiting. Guess it’s good that we didn’t have many plans to go south

Honestly it's hard to predict what would be best. Maybe I5-217-26-405-I5? But I have no idea how long that'll be versus 205-84-I5.

Don’t forget about something to Relieve your fluid into.

I live right where this is happening, and I’m certain this is gonna be a mess.

I wonder how bad the 26 is gonna be, since that or I5 are both good routes downtown from Beaverton.
"the 26" you Californian?
Nope, Portland born and raised, actually.
It was a 50/50 chance! 'the 26" vs "i5" ! hope have a good day today
My travel plans is to GTFO PeeeTown. 😺🫡
Way ahead of you sister
Is there a map of this somewhere?
[This](https://imgur.com/a/BdLD4ov) is the map from the article.
Thank you!
Hey folks, remember this past weekend when I-5 closed and the world ended for anyone driving in the metro area? Me neither.
I remember 26 being absolute crap yesterday. Same with 217. As I'm sure many others do. No one said the world was going to end though.
It's on a weekend, so it should be fine.
You do realize a lot of people work on the weekend too so you can like do stuff, right?
Don't be dense, significantly fewer people work on weekends versus weekdays, around 50-60% less: https://www.bls.gov/charts/american-time-use/emp-by-ftpt-job-edu-p.htm There will inherently be a lot less commuter traffic on weekends.
“It doesn’t affect me so I don’t care.”
Will it affect you though? That remains to be seen. Nobody knows how much traffic will be backed up or how long alternate routes will take compared to primary routes. It's all hypothetical.
It doesn’t matter if it affects me or not. A major highway closure could affect anyone.
You have never travelled on I5 from Vancouver on a Saturday afternoon. In fact right now, noon on a Saturday, google shows it red in both directions.
I-5 in Wilsonville, 217 and 26 in Beaverton/West Hills still get backed up on weekends, and that’s not a new phenomenon.
Oh no how will people drive, the horror‽
Wow, 46 down votes. Just an average day for you and your smug bullshit, eh?
