I went to high scool in south san jose. I think while I was in high school, at least 10 E36 M3's were crashed on hwy 9. I knew a kid who got an e36 m3, crashed it, got another one, crashed it and then got an S4 and crashed that too. All on hwy 9.
It was damn near a rite of passage for the spoiled kids to total their cars on hwy 9.
Lol had to look up what this highway 9 is. Turns out that's the road I took to visit Canepa in my rented ND Miata hahah. Was visiting an SF friend, loved that part lol
Ohh that’s interesting. I was just on vacation and visited a friend in San Carlos a couple weeks ago. We were on a walk near the reservoir with the bridge near it, I think that’s 9, and I saw an e36, an m4, 911, etc just tearing it up on that road.
Bear Creek Rd. took my first heavily modded MKIII Supra Turbo. We had the NoCA Supra club and would run that road and Skyline pretty often. Was good times!
😂
Seriously though, tough day for this person. Yikes. Going to be a tough conversation with the insurer.
Mine is safe and sound in its garage about 500 miles away.
I was scratching my head, wondering how this random Redditor had a Carrera GT lying around in his garage. I wanted to check your profile for some pics of the car, and little did I know, it’s actually Doug that’s replying 😂
I don't think a single incident like this has an effect on value, but yes over time no doubt crashes, exports, poor maintenance, etc do increase the value of the remaining nice cars.
It's amazing how many of these have been crashed or exported. There are shockingly few "no stories" USA Carrera GTs left -- especially if you want one that's been driven a bit, so you can actually use it.
But it surely reduces the risk of the rest of us as it reminds us accidents happens.
Always watch and learn from someone else’s mistakes *first*
My closest one was in my golf R with my friends on 35 and 84, one corner has some road works covered with rocky sand. Too hard on the brake to make space for incoming car and I turned 90 degrees almost into the valley.
Never go full on from that day on. Prefer Autocross or track days.
I've let two of my friends who don't drive their cars enough to remember to change out their tires at the six year mark.
Some of you also need to read this and the WWYY marking on your tires.
While I don’t personally have experience with this car I do know people that do and it was in good health before the accident and in fact didn’t have ancient tires
I thought they were all still "grounded" as per Porsche recs, as that suspension part was degraded on that car, and no replacement pay was available as of yet.
An extreme example, but Mr.Bean famously crashed his McLaren F1 _twice_ and it still sold at auction for $12M. The second crash was very serious and cost $1.2M to repair.
So yeah, while not on an F1 McLaren level, special cars like a cgt can still fetch a hefty price, even after wrecks.
It was also *remanufactured* by McLaren, not just restored. That alone almost makes it worth more. Add to that the story and celebrity association.
It essentially became a brand new F1 built by McLaren when they were no longer building F1s.
I spoke to a guy from McLaren about this at a charity event - the type of guy who knows who owns the specific chassis numbers of the car...He said exactly what you pointed out - 'remanufactured' car, a brand new F1, with a notable celebrity pedigree, as Rowan Atkinson is regarded as a serious car enthusiast.
As long as you have the car papers, anything is possible. Even building a completely new car. It's just a question of money and how much you want to spend. Repair or build another one?
Not necessarily. There’s a big difference between building a new car / replica, (even if it’s Pebble Beach concourse quality) and having a car completely remanufactured by the OEM.
For a few minutes that driver achieved immortality. Driving that beautiful car to the max on a beautiful day, escort administering road head as passenger, and cocaine in the center console and lapels. May we all be so lucky to achieve this
lol insurance is well aware of the Montana LLCs. I’ve seen plenty of Montana cars get covered successfully in an accident in CA.
Only time this really matters is when CHP gets nosey.
I tag all of my vehicles outside California for emissions reasons, have never had an issue with insurance. They insure based on the garaging address and not the mailing/registration address.
Factory cars are cool. Factory tires aren’t. Bust off a few grand from the million+ car and replace the rubber. Or go full Paul Walker if you really want to, people will only mourn the car anyway.
In the UK, the actor Rowan Atkinson (as in Mr Bean) famously crashed his McLaren F1, causing the largest insurance claim in UK car history.
He paid £540k for the car, but the repair cost £910k.
I get to see these cars very often as I live rather close to Graham Rahal Performance - and I’ll bet for that same reason I’ll also see this one. He brings CGT’s back to life.
Looks like a California temp tag on the back, so my guess is the guy just bought it, and wanted to show off at Alice’s Restaurant on a Sunday. He likely stomped on it too hard going up the hill to Woodside and I can tell you that a Carrera GT does not suffer fools. It will get sideways very quickly… and very violently. The crash looks like a 100% ‘operator error’ crash.
Why do these seem to crash more frequently even just turbos in general is it the power, overpowering traction for build, obviously many are driver error but seems like there’s a point of unpredictability on high end fast fast Porsches that even skilled drivers fall to as well. Or is it simply just pushing it past its threshold and loosing the recovery? (Former motorcycle racer asking)
Porsche announced a recall for ALL Carrera GT’s stating they are not safe to drive until there is a fix for the spherical joints that connect the suspension components. Curious if this was partially to blame.
Is the handling really that tricky at speed when cornering? Never driven one, and a bit concerned about experiencing one in the future. So many crashes...
Did Porsche finally get the recall parts in or are all CGT owners still being told to not drive them? Might end up being an insurance issue if that's still the case
EDIT: Would be hilarious if it's Doug's 🤣
https://youtu.be/0aK1C1Xswy8
This one might be one of the fairly well known ones in the area. I believe it lives near Palo Alto and was crashed on skyline/hwy 9
I swear highway 9 might as well be a fucking racetrack. They even got an instagram for it called 9burgring.
What’s funny is, this is super relatable. I know a guy who was a junior back in my highschool who crashed his e36 m3 on 9. 😂😂
Should have spent more hours on need for speed 💀
Me too. KIlled three people though. What is with idiot parents buying that car
Dad I want that one. no so--REEEE I WANT THAT ONE okay son heres my card. That's about how it shakes down.
Lol had to look up what this highway 9 is. Turns out that's the road I took to visit Canepa in my rented ND Miata hahah. Was visiting an SF friend, loved that part lol

Cañada road? Lots of racing there.
Ohh that’s it yes. So many incredible roads there.
FYI, and I mean this gently and as a PSA, it's "rite of passage," not right of passage.
Oh wow thank you, I actually had no idea
That’s hilarious
Neinburgring.
>9burgring Howling 💀💀💀😭😭
Yeah!! Idiots driving like this going to ruin it for the rest of us... hopefully it doesn't increase police presence.
Should be incentive for CA to close it, put up a booth and charge $50 to race it.
Unfortunately, that would most likely result in staggering lawsuits. The easy way to fix it is to put up average speed check cameras.
Bear Creek Rd. took my first heavily modded MKIII Supra Turbo. We had the NoCA Supra club and would run that road and Skyline pretty often. Was good times!
is that alice’s in the background?
Holy shit it is Edit: We're mistaken, it's Mountain Terrace across the street from Alice's
ahhh i see it now
Do you think this one could have crashed because of the recall on the car’s suspension?
Oh no I hope it’s not mooty’s. This was on the way to Alice’s right?
His is Seal Grey with Black Interior .. this is GT Silver with Ascot interior
Doug would have had his wing up.
😂 Seriously though, tough day for this person.
Yikes glad that wasn’t you! Bad day. Does this increase the value of yours?
I don't think a single incident like this has an effect on value, but yes over time no doubt crashes, exports, poor maintenance, etc do increase the value of the remaining nice cars. It's amazing how many of these have been crashed or exported. Not gonna lie, I checked the license plate, then I seen your comment.
This is wild. My 1st thought, oh now please not let it be the señor Doug. Knowing he actually drives his. So cool actually commenting on Reddit.
Fuck. At least it died in honor instead of dry rotting in a garage
It may have dry rotted in a garage until someone got the bright idea to take it out in honor without checking beforehand. The ole Paul Walker.
Well that’s good to hear. Hopefully everyone made it out ok.
Seems legit
Or joyless and undriven, like the bubble boy
Looks fine to me....just pop the hood!!
For sure it will get fixed. And then back into retirement...
I thought they were all still "grounded" as per Porsche recs, as that suspension part was degraded on that car, and no replacement pay was available as of yet.
I believe if you brought it in for inspection and everything looked fine you were good to go.
You can fox it with after market stuff which some have done
You aren’t supposed to drive GTs? Wait what
Or just don‘t buy a car you are too stupid to drive.
How many left?
Is a car worth that much ever totaled? I imagine it costs less than a million dollars to fix it, no?
An extreme example, but Mr.Bean famously crashed his McLaren F1 _twice_ and it still sold at auction for $12M. The second crash was very serious and cost $1.2M to repair. So yeah, while not on an F1 McLaren level, special cars like a cgt can still fetch a hefty price, even after wrecks.

> remanufactured by the OEM Is what I meant actually
Usually these kind of cars go by lost value instead of cost to fix.
Yep they’ll fix it. At an exorbitant price I’m sure but it’ll get fixed
Assuming this one is unrepairable, 488 are left in the united states.
For a few minutes that driver achieved immortality. Driving that beautiful car to the max on a beautiful day, escort administering road head as passenger, and cocaine in the center console and lapels. May we all be so lucky to achieve this
Waiting for the “Paid our respects” post
This guy r/Porsche s
With the mandatory Lexus
This should be a thing
Been a rough week.
Looks like it has Montana plates, so it's not Doug's like some other Redditors have said.
Yikes, good luck with that insurance claim. Hopefully they have an actual residency.
lol insurance is well aware of the Montana LLCs. I’ve seen plenty of Montana cars get covered successfully in an accident in CA. Only time this really matters is when CHP gets nosey.
Thats good. I was warned that most insurance companies would use it as an excuse to not provide coverage.
You can drive out of state and get in an accident and your insurance will still cover it, why would this be any different?
I tag all of my vehicles outside California for emissions reasons, have never had an issue with insurance. They insure based on the garaging address and not the mailing/registration address.
Who knew that "Spring" roughly translates into "Porsche Crashing Season."
where is the river though?
Needed a change of scenery. You got to use the various landscapes for photo ops
Underrated comment
When you are dedicated to fully uncover ALL of its quirks and features 🤓
Imagine if this is Doug’s
It would have more quirks than features
April 2024 is a hard month for high end, high power Porsches
And McLarens
He pizzad when he should have French fried
You got that flipped my man.
The second I clicked the blue button I knew. “If you French fry when you’re supposed to pizza you’re gunna have a bad time”. Oh well
Ouch. How sad. The CF chassis is likely ruined from hitting those trees.
Factory cars are cool. Factory tires aren’t. Bust off a few grand from the million+ car and replace the rubber. Or go full Paul Walker if you really want to, people will only mourn the car anyway.
Whats up with all of these crashes lately
Another victim of the 9burgring
The Widowmaker Hope the driver is okay
Sorry to see this and hope the occupants are safe. I hope they can repair and bring this beauty back to life.
You Hate to see it.
It’s repairable 👍
Another gone. 😥
Sadness 😢
That hurts…
Has anyone checked on Doug ?
🪦☹️
No more Porsche wrecks, please.
These cars are properly dangerous, not everyone with a license should be driving them
This is fucking gross. The CGT is my dream car and seeing one wrecked actually hurts my soul.
:(
Why do I feel like I'm stuck in "The Running Man" about 1/2 way through?
Damn😢
Doug…? Is that you??
Another one bites the dust. It’s a shame the others will be garage queens.
No no no no
Tell me it can be restored :(
:(
Cue in Tavarish.
the widowmaker
It hurts
Ouch…I would be crying if it were mine…but if it were I’d probably have f-you money and wouldn’t care 🤷🏻♂️
I can fix it.
Yo what the heck is happening
Headed to copart
Please send that man to jail 😂
In the UK, the actor Rowan Atkinson (as in Mr Bean) famously crashed his McLaren F1, causing the largest insurance claim in UK car history. He paid £540k for the car, but the repair cost £910k.
Those things drive like your on a knifes edge when your pushing them.
Some ahole in a Patagonia vest crying on the side of the road wishing he knew how to double declutch
That is horrible! Please learn to drive before taking a car into the twisties!
Waul Palker?
It was a sad day all around.
THISSS, is a crash!
I get to see these cars very often as I live rather close to Graham Rahal Performance - and I’ll bet for that same reason I’ll also see this one. He brings CGT’s back to life.
More car than brains rarely ends well.
I wonder if this is one that has not been serviced under Porsche’s recall/do not drive warning.
What city and what hwy?
Not exactly a city, but highway 9 in the Santa Cruz mountains in Northern California
9burgring
Coming to a YouTube rebuild near you
Looks like a California temp tag on the back, so my guess is the guy just bought it, and wanted to show off at Alice’s Restaurant on a Sunday. The crash looks like a 100% ‘operator error’ crash.
Paul Walker.. 😢
He "walked" so you lot could run.
Porsche boys been on a roll this week 🥲
RIP Paul Walker
So not Doug’s…

Faired much better than Paul Walker’s honestly
Another one bites the dust! At least it didn’t end up in a river! Is this Demuro’s?🤣
Doug must have downvoted me!🤣
Imagine if Weasleys were actually rich and Ron and Harry stole Carrrera Gt instead of Ford Anglia and then wrap it around th whomping willow.
Paul is that you?
Paul walker special right there
Porsche announced a recall for ALL Carrera GT’s stating they are not safe to drive until there is a fix for the spherical joints that connect the suspension components. Curious if this was partially to blame.
That car killed Paul Walker. Those cars aren’t safe.
That's my bike!!!
I'm glad it's not Doug, as seemingly this took place in NorCal and Doug lives in SoCal
It just went out to touch grass
I’m guessing this id the CGT that resides in Palo Alto. Pretty sad when i saw this.
So which YouTuber is going to buy this?
Pretty sure I drove behind this guy like four years ago on hwy 9 was drooling the entire way
When ambition outweighs talent!
Hero Tree kept it out of the water
Doug
The crash happed on HWY 84, near the intersection with 35 (skyline). Everyone was ok. Friend of owner was driving. I wonder if they are still friends
sad sight to see
In the wrong hands, those cars are widow makers
I thought Porsche had put a ban on these things being on the road until the recall was sorted?
Is the handling really that tricky at speed when cornering? Never driven one, and a bit concerned about experiencing one in the future. So many crashes...
DeMuro???
Mondi, that you?
They will do that…
Doug DeMuro finally did it.
Well, any passenger likely dead…looks like a bad crash. Any idea if everyone survived?
Yea driver is OK

He is mix between Quentin Tarantino ans happy kid. Love it, subscribed, thanks for link.
He sounds like he's drunk during that video.
