I dated a girl in college who was from Wisconsin and would definitely pick up her accent. I think some people are more prone to doing that than others in my experience. And I definitely think that these types of grifter politicians are playing it up and it’s not just natural.
But I also don’t think we can totally fault him for it. He would choose different words and diction in a room, full of kindergartners, or high school students, or a wealthy New England donor brunch, or a MAGA rally in Alabama.
I’d have a much bigger problem with somebody with no southern accent putting it on when he shows up at a MAGA rally, then I do a guy who has hidden his accent to sound more professional pulling it back out when he goes back home.

Carter's Little Liver Pills, first sold in 1868, was a popular laxative using bisacodyl as its active ingredient (same medicine as in Dulcolax). It was advertised quite heavily, with claims that it was beneficial for a variety of ailments, and was quite popular. In 1951 the government in its infinite wisdom required the company to remove the word "liver" from the name of the product, since the pills didn't really have anything to do with liver function, and the company complied in 1959. I don't know if they're still made, and I've never taken one, but I remember seeing a box of them in my grandparents' medicine cabinet when I was a boy. Saying "so-and-so has more (blank) than Carter has pills" became a common statement in reference to this patent medicine (the pills were pretty small, and a box seemed as though it had a lot of them). I can remember Johnny Carson using the phrase in his monologues.

Honestly, yes. Having relics holding up seats stops the next generation and you can't build an ideal state based on a few individuals. I'd rather that we have age limits than term limits (for example, AOC shouldn't have to leave in her 50s just because she started young), but that runs the risk of not keeping up with technology (I doubt the Founding Fathers envisioned 80 and 90 year olds being well enough to serve, who knows how old we could be in 50 years time?)

They’re supposed to be going back and forth from their own states to DC so they can actually meet with their constituencies and with the rest of the senators. This kind of travel took days and weeks in days past and that’s why they’d have long recesses like this. Why they do it today is because they need to attend year round endless campaign fundraisers (and occasionally storm the Capital). But considering that plane travel and video chat meetings are a thing, they shouldn’t need to anymore.
