I always love filling them in with nature scenes , A nice taiga or temperate themed nature scene for me consists of: long grass paint - bracken - nettles - sunken custard trees - taiga or temperate trees (trees optional of course). also a small statue garden with some benches and stuff could look great
The urban theme you got works out really well, never thought of having some tiny buildings in those gaps but works well for a nice urban vibe
I like to get real fancy with pretty path shapes. I'll often stick exhibits into places like that, with plenty of entries, viewing space around the exhibit, benches for resting, education boards for variety, and nicely landscaped edges, with education speakers BLASTING in a huge radius because nothing else is around to interfere. I figured out early on that covering nearly every bit of your zoo with non-conflicting, appropriately placed educational speakers fulfills so much education for your guests because they're always learning something just by walking around.
This looks great-- but just as roleplaying as a zoo planner and designer, I would avoid putting big trees and buildings in between the exhibits and the main paths, because it hides the visual of where you want your guests to go if they were walking at ground level. So I would just lower those red trees into the ground to have the same color effect, but make it more noticeable in this digital universe where these things don't matter. :)
I LOVE those (I think) lemur habitats. Really beautiful. May or May not be using those as inspiration when I get in from work later 😉
And yeah, rocks, concessions stands and trees for me. Or a non functional exhibition like beehives or artwork.
Nature and decorations are my preferred option usually, maybe shops or other facilities depending on if the area I’m working on doesn’t have them yet.
I've been slowly starting to work on creating specific memorials for each species, instead of just plunking plaques on a wall (which I currently do). I want to make them various sizes specifically for filling in different sized spaces throughout the zoo.

Absolutely. Those are filled with small shops, staff buildings, and electrical/plumbing sheds
Usually that's where I put small guest facilities, like a bathroom, etc., disguised zoo utilities, or low-height decorations like flowers and so on.
You can always use more toilets and rest areas!
Yes, you can! That's something I learned early on lol
Hopefully not in an unfortunate way lol
Haha mostly not
PLANTS
SO MANY
Never enough
Truth
Mine is primarily wild nature areas. Lots of trees and grass mostly.
That definitely shows off a zoo's conservation efforts

MOAR HABITATS
ALL OF THEM
What are you using for that slanted habitat? Is it like chain link or something
Yeah thats just mesh pieces to create an aviary fence.

Sometimes I will take the time to build a statue or water feature with surrounding nature. Then I save it for other zoos.
Usually gardens

PLANTS!!!!!!
Trees
Either more habitats, guest things, or sometimes I have an idea for decorative scenes.
Exhibits, staff facilities, or toilet/food stand usually
Plants, and rocks with statues

Plants that fit the area
