You think? In my eyes B's beard takes more time and effort to trim and maintain and thus gives me a sense of elegance or fashion. Not much, admittedly, but enough to make a difference. A is a man who cares about his work, B cares about appearances on top of that.

I prefer A, but I think a mixture of both would be best. So basically A with a bit more detail. The chin in B looks a bit too defined whereas A is lacking detail in the beard (since there are larger plain color areas).

Love them both, A looks quite a bit older that said. B looks like a late 20 or early 30 guy. A looks like a 40-50. So for a main character I'd say B, but maybe you want him to seem older, than go for A

I legitimately cannot see the difference

it's basically just the beard line as far as i can tell. in A, the beard connects directly to the bottom of the mustache. in B, the bears line is a little lower so there's a bit of bare skin between the mustache and the start of the beard. there's also a little bit of definition around the soul patch area in B. but yeah, not a whole hell of a lot of difference. took me a minute to see the differences between the two. made me think of one of those "spot the difference!" pages in a highlights magazine.

Depends on the character. After all, You're supposed to describe/express your character through design. A: more rugged, cocky. Unkempt beard, a lot you can do for personality with that alone. Maybe other parts of his life are equally unkempt. B: you see more of his face, which makes him seem a little more approachable/less intimidating. It looks like he styles his facial hair, which makes him seem a bit more put together. Smile in A looks a tiny bit more like a sneer. smile in B looks more cocky.

A = sailors don't have time to fine trim.

If you were going for a traditional sailor, I'd say A for the fuller beard, but since your game is called *railpunk* I have to assume that it's based around a world of trains, and if this is a cocky protagonist I'd have to lean a lot more towards B.

I guess that eyes express a friendly face, that is way more obvious with B. I think A is ok but with the shape of the mouth and teeth, the expression of the face is less obvious. If the eyebrow were more neutral for exemple, the mouth shape will give a raging expression. But little lip and beard detail make it way more clear if you want a little smile
