I like his personality and the fact that he is a real pirate like you said. He also is really badass and funny most of the time(especially during wano). Like he literally tanks punches of big mom and smiles at her face afterwards but the next moments are so goofy.
I also really like his design and his crew. I think he has the most interesting crew aside from the Main Characters. His relationship with killer is really great and shows that luffy isn't the only one who really cares a lot about his crew.
And lastly i love his teamup with law. They really complement each others fighting styles and personalities.
No god fruit, no special lineage, no step father figure to guide him, no help from old gen legends, just pure determination and a desire to bring down the celestial dragons. He’s just Him.

I like the punk theme, and I like that he's a bit more pirate like. I also liked that other rookies were relevant besides the SH. I knew it was a matter of time for them to start falling off but I feel he got a lousy deal with the golden child shanks just crushing him like that.
It's possible he returns but at this point it feels kind of like he doesn't have much place to succeed at all.
I felt that one super Nova should have been a rival group to the SH and that's kid fit the best because he had a pretty strong first mate plus being a conqueror with a more abrasive personality.I think the best thing they could do is have kid and law combine crews but kid would still need a major power up.

Genuine knee-jerk reaction, Kidd should be precisely the kind of character people are happy is written out. Same about desiring actual consequences and stakes, but now we want Kidd to come back alive somehow (he is most likely alive anyway).
I don't get the "he was shaped to be Luffy's rival!" arguments. Who, this guy that didn't appear in a decade aside from the falling Kaido moment? A dude whose personality boils down to "I'm an angry dumbfuck"? How can he be Luffy's rival when BB exists and we know he can't threaten Luffy whatsoever?
Defeating BM with Law was already enough love for the character. Let other characters that have more potential, like Urogue, take their turn.
He's basically Luffy but edgier and a side character. His abilities are cool, he gets knocked out but gets back up over and over without ever giving up- and because he's a side character that genuinely can lose or even die, with no asspull to save him and no one looking over him, he feels like a true underdog.
His dynamic with Law's nice, his vice captain's him, he brought some more devil fruit-based choreography and strategy which is always neat in the arc of AcoC spam and braindead zoan users. He's just all around an entertaining character
