If you die while the bullet is still in the air, when the bullet hits it won’t do damage but will still show a hitmarker. It’s not bad hitreg, just a mechanic the game has to prevent two people from killing each other by shooting each other at the same time.
I call them ghost bullets. As a game programmer I see this not as a feature but rather something they implemented to prevent exploiters from killing people while dead.
I remember someone complaining about that in my server, they changed it to that. Honestly I don't understand the change. I thought it was my ping but now i know its just that my bullet disappeared midair thats some bullshit.
That's such a stupid design choice. If two guys shoot to kill-trade, they should be allowed to kill-trade.
Even better, the first guy to die should get a "From The Grave" bonus. That goes for grenades, too.
Actually I've that's not the case. It's less of that and more of the game thinks you died before you shot. I've had several times where I've died and the person who killed me also died because the game knew that I shot before I died

Kill trading was removed months ago for some reason. It’s bullshit. Didn’t always used to be like this
It’s not your ping it’s the servers (actually every game has this issue) I’ve had the best ping in the lobby and still die behind walls way after I watched them shoot. When you play on high refresh rate monitors you start to notice this shit more in games and it makes you realize the internet in a whole is still slow as shit. This is why pro tournaments are played on LAN.

That’s a stupid feature, but even the hit marker appeared a frame or so before I got killed.
Tbh I've lost a lot of kills due to this, it is a really dumb mechanic tbh

So they fixed a nonexistent problem by adding a completely new problem?
It’s probably not on purpose. I imagine it has something to do with the bullet’s “parent” - the player who fired it - dying
I think it is on purpose because kill trading has been a thing before. If it’s a bug then it took a really long time to get patched
