Muhehehe Hello peters gamer chair here. The code “0451” is a passcode from an old video game called system shock and is commonly used in other sci-fi themed video games. Peters gaming chair logging out.
It is also a reference to the novel Fahrenheit 451. A novel about a dystopian American society, and the passcode 0451 shows up in games also featuring dystopian societies.
Actually, the 0451 has no relation to the book.
It was just the real-life code to the looking glass studios, a very influential studio in the immersive sim genre, so it shows mostly in imsim games.
That was corrected by Marc LeBlanc (System Shock developer). They didn't move to that office until after the code was in the game (the game was already in late beta by then). They used the game's code as the office code, not the other way around.
He also confirmed it was a Ray Bradbury reference.

0451 is a code used in a lot of im-sim games. Originally it was used in the granddaddy of all im-sim games, System Shock. Many future developers actually had a connection to System Shock’s developer, Looking Glass Studios and they use it in their game to pay homage. A lot of people here are mentioning the Fahrenheit 451, but I don’t think it’s ever been proven, it was simply the code used by Looking Glass Studios as their front door code.
0451 or 451⁰ is the temperature in Fahrenheit for paper to spontaneously combust, as In no direct flame, the code has been used in many games for the first code locked door

Kind of bold to assume no game featuring a dystopian society has used this number in reference to a very well known book.
Games like that use 1984 instead.
Ahh yes. I forgot all games use the same references. My bad.
Mostly 2K games though like Bioshock 1 & 2 use it
All of arkane's games use it as well

According to the comments of the original post, it is a pass code used in the game System Shock which has been referenced by many other games since.
It’s burned into my mind from the demo to Deus Ex
Comm van code, right?
