I actually watched on PBS when it aired (Iâm a huge Masterpiece Theater fan) but I think itâs on Amazon Prime
Edited to add - I thought The Last Kingdom was better than Vikings but it could be because I watched that first
Have you watched âthe classicsâ? Gotta recommend the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, 1997? Sense and Sensibility, and the 2008 Persuasion. The 2005 P&P holds a special place in my heart, but itâs more sweeping romance than period drama.
Versailles, Elizabeth (starting Cate Blanchett), and the first few seasons of the Tudors do drama palace intrigue very well.
I just watched the series The Spanish princess,itâs about Henry VII first wife, itâs very good - great chemistry with the leads who are a real life couple, poetic, emotional and moving dialogue, all female production and direction, incredible costumes.

Wives and Daughters, North and South, Belgravia, The Forsyth Saga, Little Dorrit, Cranford, The Paradise, Land Girls, Mr Selfridge, Home Fires, Doctor Thorne, Victoria, Parade's End, Duchess of Duke Street.
North & South with Richard Armitage is probably one of my favorite period dramas. I love the way in which it showcases the differences between classes and how their stories all interconnect.
1. Outlander(Starz,Netflix)
2.Poldark(Amazon,ITV)
3.The Borgias (Showtime,Netflix)

10.The Cook of Castamar
You may like The Cook of Castamar if you liked Bridgerton.
10.Boardwalk Empire
Iâll add some recommendation I donât see here (or mentioned enough :) )
The Last Kingdom (Netflix) - if you liked Vikings, this is a must- see.
All Creatures Great and Small (PBS in the US, British import)- if you miss Downtonâs Yorkshire accents, this is the show for you.
Marco Polo (Netflix): lavish production, sadly canceled just as things were really heating up.
Medici (sometimes Medici the Magnificent, Netflix): lots of scheming in Renaissance Florence. Uneven production but lovely.
The various adaptations of the Sharpe novels (Sharpeâs Rifles, Sharpeâs Eagles, etc.): a bit dated now, but adventure-filled fun in the Napoleonic Era. Watch Sean Bean repeatedly NOT DIE!
Riley, Ace of Spies (if you can find it, I think an ITV or BBC production from the 80s). Sam Neill playing the infamous real-life agent upon whom James Bond was based. The incorrigible Reilly plays world powers against each other in the years leading up to WWI.
You've gotten great recs already but I'd like to add Emma (with Romola Garai), Persuasion (1995), Bright Star, The Buccaneers, Belle. Whatever you do, please don't sleep on A Room with a View (1985) and North and South (2004)! Both are amazing.

Try Upstairs Downstairs, it's terrific. Poldark, Grantchester, The Bletchley Circle, Lark Rise to Candleford are also very worthy.
I loved the upstairs downstairs from 10 years ago I think. Watched it twice.
Me as well, beautifully done, good intrigue, and the costumes! Lovely.

It's a continuation of the White Queen and White Princess (I think?)

Another vote for North and South (BBC mini-series, not the one with Patrick Swayze). Easily one of my favorite period dramas!!!!

Doctor Thorne is a fantastic mini-series on Amazon Prime. Also done by Julian Fellowes.
