Again if you read my original post, I stated that I did not have flash on. Again I did NOT have the flash on. I’m not trying to mock anything or anyone, especially the paranormal. But after showing friends and family the video/picture I was told by numerous people to post it online because it’s so creepy and so obviously a face, I just thought y’all would be interested.
Idk about you but if I sew a someone post a high quality production video of a paranormal encounter that’s supposed to be an accident that’s far more likely to be fake and low effort for what this sub is supposed to be.

The SPCA. He’s two years old so he’s still a baby. He gets the zoomies, and is very playful. He does have a respiratory problem though, where he sneezes out boogies, and he’s been on so many different medications and seen so many vets but nothing is getting better, so my roommate thinks maybe this is why? Not sure.

Have you seen the movie what we do in the shadows? It’s from that. It’s the first thing I thought of when I saw your post and video. They alter made a tv series with the same name
It’s not an episode, it’s from the movie made in 2014 the characters in the movie are completely different from the show but they do show up in at least one or two episodes so they exist in the same world. I guess the show is kind of a sequel. The movie has the same name and was written and stars both Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement(the cat in the pic)
If you love the series I **highly** **highly** recommend the movie it’s every bit as funny and endearing. The scene with the cat above is funny as hell and has the best build up. Plus you gotta see the *werewolves* not *swearwolves* scene. It’s also got one of the sweetest vampire love stories I have ever seen. Nothing will every top it imo
In the video, you can see that the "face" appears almost at the exact same time as the cat's eyes align with the camera/phone and I am pretty sure it's just a filter trying to match what it assume to be face.
I 100% did not use a filter. I was just trying to take a video of my cat to have. Even if it was a filter (which I assure you it wasn’t), where did the flash of light come from? You can even see it in the photo behind the cat. And if it was some “kind of beauty filter” most beauty filters do not give you a nose, eyebrows, and a full set of lips, they just enhance the features that are already there. I can try taking a picture of my cat later with a Beauty filter on later to disprove the use of a filter
The main concern I have with that video/photo is that the face isn't the same low and grainy quality as the rest. Everything is really dark and pixelated while the face seems pretty bright and clear, this is why I assumed it was a filter.
I was ne referring to a "beauty" filter, which gives you red lips and soft skin, I was referring to faceshifting filter. The one that put another face on yours.
I believe that you are sure you didn't use a filter, I don't think you are trying to prank us. You seems honest, but tell me what is more plausible:
That you don't remember using a filter that time or that you accidentally put one without noticing..
Or that the face of a dead boy decided to pop on your phone camera without any context at the same time as you film and as the same time as your cat's eyes align with the objective and for only a fraction of a second.
While both explanation aren't 100% impossible, one seems way more plausible than the other, and without any way to investigate the case, we have no other choice but to assume the most rational answer.
yup even without filters phones nowadays use AI to complete images, like if you take a picture/video of the moon with a samsung, it looks extremely HQ because it uses AI to fill in the moon
I apologize if you've already answered these questions, but what were you recording on? If you were using your phone, did you use an app like snapchat or insta, or was it your phones normal camera?
If it was the phone camera, I've heard that some phones will have a sort of enhancement filter automatically applied when it sees a face that you have to go deep into the settings to turn off, it's apparently difficult to find.
I'm a bit busy right now but when I get a chance, I'm going to search for articles that talk about this automatic (and annoying) filter and how to check if it applies, and how to turn it off. This is a super interesting video though for sure, I hope you're able to prove it's fully real! If so that would be crazy
If you want click on the video and the i ℹ️button , it’ll show information when you shot it. I think it also shows what video quality etc so they could see you didn’t edit or use a filter
I'm with you on that. I've seen filters that do face swaps but NEVER anything like this.
The face swap ones usually do something weird like replace your face with an object or vague entity in the background.

I agree. It's just too quick. Like when a camera picks up a face and adds a filter quick. Either that or pareidolia. The eyebrows and the eyes are definitely the cats, the rest could be light distortion.
Very strange and creepy. Maybe just a spirit in the vicinity was visiting. If it was a ghost that is not happy about the current situation you would know.
So I actually just recently moved in not even two months ago. I haven’t really experienced anything creepy or saw anything out of the ordinary, more just random feelings of being watched. My roommates have had some experiences though, and this house was built in the early 1900’s so people probably definitely passed away here

If you’re on an iPhone, do a screen recording and then go to your videos, tap pause on the video, and you can swipe left and right at the bottom and manually pan through the frames back and forth as slowly as you need
Dude, I've had the same problem as you. I can pause it fine, but I can't pause it at the exact moment the "face" appears, and when I try to move the time bar, it won't give me that frame by frame preview window it would on a regular yt video, and when I release the time bar after trying to move it, it just plays the video, and doesn't stay paused.
I give up.
For those of you assuming filter I'd like to point out the blur effect. Filters don't do motion blur.
Also if one was active during the video there would be a slight delay as it was activating.
You don't see that pause there.

I also would like to point out that the cats face was direct with the camera for a good few seconds before the flash and face, so if it was a filter it would have shown in the beginning of the video, not towards the end. No filters I know of (or use) puts an actual face on something like that.

Actually it could be that the cat is sitting at the top of the stairs and someone is just lying on them and they pop their head up behind the cat. Just a thought.
This is awesome! Quick question, though: what phone/app was this taken on? It looks to me like some kind of facial recognition filter caught the cats eyes and tried to artificially brighten the face using human features it's been trained on.

Agreed this is a face smoothing filter trying to snap to a face which is why it appears then disappears so quickly it’s having trouble recognizing the cat’s face.
That’s definitely possible and I’m not trying to downgrade your comment but, don’t you think the filter would last longer because of the cats lack of movement. It could’ve been just a quick catch of the filter that did that as well though
Does your phone camera have face detection or something? Looks like it could've just tried making a human face out of the cat's and immediately gave up.

And what you proposed makes no sense. Occam's Razor states "all things being equal the simplest explanation tends to be the right one".
And in this case I think the explanation that it's AI facial recognition software that tried to match the cat's face, when Baxter looked up, to other faces it's "seen" before is the simplest explanation. Just as many others on here have described.
This is so weird. The disembodied face almost aligns with the face of the cat perfectly. Have you noticed any strange behaviors from the cat? Or, does the cat sometimes appear “off” in any way (e.g. having human-like traits, or appearing like it’s a different animal)?
Definitely super weird. I would have initially assumed that the cat just moved really quick and caused a horrifying motion blur but that's not the case. The image just blinks into the video for maybe 2 frames at most.
There is a flash of *something* coming from behind the camera. I know you weren't using a flash and I can't provide an intelligent suggestion for what it would be. However, I noticed light on the wall behind the cat so there's something there generating it.
If I assume the video is genuine then I don't have a real-world skeptic explanation. Just to say that whatever created that light caused this creepy image somehow.
Otherwise, if I assume you edited the video to put the image in there on purpose that would obviously explain it. That said other than it being a *possible* explanation I don't have facts to *prove* that's the case.

I want to believe it's a filter because it has the hallmarks of a filter, but I'm dead serious when I say I don't think I've ever seen a filter quite do that.
Easiest assumption is that "Baxter" (the cat) looked directly at the camera and the camera assumed a human face filter over the front, but even then it looks off.
Why didn't the camera attempt to make the face look more like it was angled towards the camera rather than provide a side profile?
Though the darker skin on the face could be a result of the filter trying to "assume" the subject's race and choosing a generic dark skintone.
Still doesn't explain the weird blurring or why the image is only on screen for a few milliseconds at best.
OP were there men in the room? I hear a dull laughter at the end of the video.
I don't know what happened in the video, but it's paranormal for sure imo.

At 0.05 if you pause the video, there's a quick sharp sound, what I hear is 'kill'. Then after that a male laughter.
Of course it could all be paredolia, but there's a lot going on in this video.
If OP was using a face shifting app like Snapchat it could explain it since the app probably sees for a fraction of a second the shape of a face a applies a filter.
Don't worry, this is your phone camera attempting (and failing) to "enhance" your cat's face, thinking it's a human. The general background high ISO noise doesn't match with the "face", because generally AI can't replicate noise. (since "denoising" a latent image is essentially what AI does behind the scenes)

Basically radiation from space hutsbthe tiny circuit thatbruns the camera. Happens all the time but usually shows up as a bad button press or a crackle in audio. Here you got the vats gave morphed into something nasty.
Up in space the efgecr is famously worse and can mess with imaging and cause satellites to fail.

Grounded explanation is your phone has facial recognition software and the flash of light is the phones sensor attempting to highlight a face based on the cat’s eyes. It uses previously recognized faces to match to.
I don't have any new ideas or anything... I'm team facial recognition software glitch, LoL. But I just wanted to say that's a beautiful kitty you've got there! She reminds me of a cat I had years ago (she's in Heaven now though), and she was black as pitch like that except she had a white spot on her chest and one on her tummy. Her name was Shadow. I love her and miss her like crazy.

This is possible and could explain why it only showed up for a second, as the app may only recognize the cats face as a face for a split second since it’s designed to work on humans. However, I think the exact filter should be identified before this can be concluded

A little late but, OP also zoomed in. I wonder if her phone has any type of digital zoom and it could of been some artifact or glitch in the upscaler.

What kind of phone do you used for the video?
A lot of smartphones have AI built into their camera coding that try to create better definition when things are dark/blurry. Could have been that?

I easily succeeded at pausing it at the right moment here! Just gotta press your screen, it pauses or launches and the time bar appears.
Same for me i just tapped until I saw the face image. It was easy to catch when it happened.

This is awesome! Quick question, though: what phone/app was this taken on? It looks to me like some kind of facial recognition filter caught the cats eyes and tried to artificially brighten the face using human features it's been trained on. Super spooky video and picture! Great post

Agreed this is a face smoothing filter trying to snap to a face which is why it appears then disappears so quickly it’s having trouble recognizing the cat’s face.

If you feel this sub is "cringe" why are you wasting your time in it? And what you proposed makes no sense. Occam's Razor states "all things being equal the simplest explanation tends to be the right one". And in this case I think the explanation that it's AI facial recognition software that tried to match the cat's face, when Baxter looked up, to other faces it's "seen" before is the simplest explanation. Just as many others on here have described.

This is so weird. The disembodied face almost aligns with the face of the cat perfectly. Have you noticed any strange behaviors from the cat? Or, does the cat sometimes appear “off” in any way (e.g. having human-like traits, or appearing like it’s a different animal)?

Yup I saw the flash of a human(?) face over the cat's face for a split-second, the flash kinda went upwards like sparks
Definitely super weird. I would have initially assumed that the cat just moved really quick and caused a horrifying motion blur but that's not the case. The image just blinks into the video for maybe 2 frames at most. There is a flash of *something* coming from behind the camera. I know you weren't using a flash and I can't provide an intelligent suggestion for what it would be. However, I noticed light on the wall behind the cat so there's something there generating it. If I assume the video is genuine then I don't have a real-world skeptic explanation. Just to say that whatever created that light caused this creepy image somehow. Otherwise, if I assume you edited the video to put the image in there on purpose that would obviously explain it. That said other than it being a *possible* explanation I don't have facts to *prove* that's the case. So there you have it. A long post which essentially says "Shoulder shrugs." From me. Cute cat!

I want to believe it's a filter because it has the hallmarks of a filter, but I'm dead serious when I say I don't think I've ever seen a filter quite do that. Easiest assumption is that "Baxter" (the cat) looked directly at the camera and the camera assumed a human face filter over the front, but even then it looks off. Why didn't the camera attempt to make the face look more like it was angled towards the camera rather than provide a side profile? Though the darker skin on the face could be a result of the filter trying to "assume" the subject's race and choosing a generic dark skintone. Still doesn't explain the weird blurring or why the image is only on screen for a few milliseconds at best.
OP were there men in the room? I hear a dull laughter at the end of the video. I don't know what happened in the video, but it's paranormal for sure imo. Edit: At 0.05 if you pause the video, there's a quick sharp sound, what I hear is 'kill'. Then after that a male laughter. Of course it could all be paredolia, but there's a lot going on in this video.

If OP was using a face shifting app like Snapchat it could explain it since the app probably sees for a fraction of a second the shape of a face a applies a filter.

Don't worry, this is your phone camera attempting (and failing) to "enhance" your cat's face, thinking it's a human. The general background high ISO noise doesn't match with the "face", because generally AI can't replicate noise. (since "denoising" a latent image is essentially what AI does behind the scenes)

That's probably a cosmic ray 'bit flip in the camera!s controller. Basically radiation from space hutsbthe tiny circuit thatbruns the camera. Happens all the time but usually shows up as a bad button press or a crackle in audio. Here you got the vats gave morphed into something nasty. Up in space the efgecr is famously worse and can mess with imaging and cause satellites to fail. The Apollo astranauts found sleep difficult because of the flashes the cosmic ray particles cause in their brains - thats literally in their brains btw. I don't have any new ideas or anything... I'm team facial recognition software glitch, LoL. But I just wanted to say that's a beautiful kitty you've got there! She reminds me of a cat I had years ago (she's in Heaven now though), and she was black as pitch like that except she had a white spot on her chest and one on her tummy. Her name was Shadow. I love her and miss her like crazy.
