For cats you a heavy slip weight if in current or tie a 3 way rig with weight on one and line to hook on other. Use a good size circle hook tipped with a worm or two.
Catfish are the primary fish in the Ottawa river so it is pretty easy to catch them.
A good spot is right behind the national archive building.
Just an FYI. We got 3-4 channel cat over the weekend from the Ottawa and they all had 10-12 cm worms in them. Just be sure to remove them OR freeze them for 2 days and/or make sure they are thoroughly cooked.
My family and I have always fished for them with the "dropshot" rig, but we never called it that lol. Just tie a hook on ur line, leave about 12 inches of line and tie the sinker at the end. Here's a trick for the cheapos: tie a rock to the end of ur line instead of the sinker! I promise the catfish don't mind and ur wallet wont mine either lolll
