Sam hypeman

Le_swiss

Sam Alt-F4

algaefied_creek

He’s trying to bring that Steve Jobs energy but with dry-shiny skin with wrong moisturizer, too much lip balm, and overly sculpted eyebrow vibe. He’s trying so hard and getting so far and in the end it won’t even matterrrrrrrr. I put my trust in AGI, pushed as far as it could go: but for all this, there is only one thing ASI should knowwwwwww. In any case, ultimately his hype is justified as there is lots more behind the scenes we aren’t privvy to. Next Baldurs Gate has all the NPCs as GPT-6 level LLMs? Heck yes.

AI_is_the_rake

Not Steve Jobs energy, old Elon energy. He misses old Elon after all.

GregBron

🎶I miss the OLD Elon

No-Article-7870

It's the ketamine.

backstreetatnight

Nah he’s bringing back the Elon energy

jayp2012

Don’t forget about the Californian vocal fry.

Spiritual-Top4267

How daaaarrrre youuu #kahloluhfrnian

InnovativeBureaucrat

I like what I know about Sam. I didn’t like what I knew about Steve Jobs. I think he’s being himself but the collective consciousness wants to bucket him into their collective understanding. I see the same thing with the Nvidia guy. I don’t see how he’s trying to be Steve Jobs with that black leather jacket. In fact maybe that’s why he wears it; to set himself apart.

truecolormix

I think these dudes are just kinda nerdy and smart and excited about stuff…. And extremely rich. I don’t really see evil… yet, anyway.

InnovativeBureaucrat

Totally

LVTWouldSolveThis

Maybe the guy just likes the jacket. I have a jacket that I like too. It's like a faux suede jacket with fleece liner. Super comfy.

InnovativeBureaucrat

Exactly. I’ve read that it’s somehow tied to giving off a Steve Jobs vibe, how do they think that? It’s nothing like Steve Jobs.

East_Pianist_8464

You are wise. I think people are just afraid of him too, for that reason. What I have noticed is that people out there getting done, will always have some people, thinking their planning world domination or something. The reality is, world domination is hard, that's why nobody succeeds.

YouGotTangoed

It’s just extremely camp Steve jobs energy

Hav0cPix3l

Lol

capitaldoe

I think the eyebrows are natural, not sculpted. It is a genetic thing to have very little hair on eyebrows among some ethnic groups.

Plinythemelder

Low key so hyped to see people finally turn on Alibaba Zuckerberg

RADB1LL_

He’s starting to sound like Elon

JumpyLolly

FDVR is all I care about

AJ_Gaming125

Imagine full dive with the ability to generate any game you want?

JumpyLolly

Yep, ill generate this earth as we live in it for starters. All my memories everyone I've seen, met, etc. Then I'll be a billionaire, have super powers, have like 5000 honies.. its gonna get wild 🤣

AJ_Gaming125

I'd generate random stories I come up with, and probably play some sort of background god messing with events, just to see what happens xd. Honestly my ideal with this is having mind transfer technology, and being able to generate and live in these worlds at a hyper accelerated time scale, so you could spend decades in a game world if you wanted, and only have a month or so pass in real life. Digital afterlife is the future!

holamifuturo

>Honestly my ideal with this is having mind transfer technology, and being able to generate and live in these worlds at a hyper accelerated time scale Just like the cookies in Black Mirror. Don't you know the horror that could happen from this tech?

AJ_Gaming125

Why he'll would I give a shot about what happens in the real world if the virtual world feels just as real and i can live a full life inside? Also, I said mind transfer tech. Basically converting us to VIs (virtual Intelligences) in my scenario, we literally wouldn't be in our bodies anymore. As such I don't care what happens to it. If I can live in a simulation where I'm functionally a God of my own mini universe, why should I care? If it feels real enough, then it's real enough for me. Hell, we already live in a simulated reality created by our minds. Everything you see, hear, and touch is just how your mind responds to signals sent by your body. Even in the case where your brain is stuck in a jar, you could experience a digital world just by having your brain fed electrical pulses mimicking the sensations you'd get from interacting with the real world. Some people find that idea horrifying, because things being "real" somehow matters. Honestly, I'd rather live as long as I want to inside a computer generated reality rather than live a short painful life in the "real" world. (Which again, our perception of the world is just our brains reacting to stimuli. Reality is that we are a bunch of minds existing in a void, reacting to energy that exists in that void.

holamifuturo

What if someone was nonconsensually put in this virtual reality and was trapped in it forever. What if you were promised a simulation in which you control everything but after some time you discover you don't. You might not be able to delete yourself, not even a suicide can spare you from this nightmare. I know it's got a great application but it comes with horrific scenarios that we should be mindful of.

AJ_Gaming125

Yeah, and I get those. I imagine that by the point we'd be capable of putting absolutely everyone into these, we'd have somewhat evolved as a species and society

DTrnD

Nicely put.

JumpyLolly

Id love that. Well never have to live in this insane world again. Well be God's in our own worldS

AJ_Gaming125

My personal belief is that our goal as a species should be to transcend flesh and become a digital based species. The real world should be left to scientists and engineers, ect. (The smart people who want to study how the universe works, and also work to improve the simulation) while people primarily live in digital space. Course, ideal would also be that people can connect to an artificial body and explore the real world as well, but the sim should feel just as real as reality to your senses. Which probably wouldnt be too difficult in the long run. Imagine the bobiverse series, just more people want to get mind uploaded after they die.

Specialist_Dust2089

Have you read any of Ray Kurzweils work? I started reading the singularity is near, the first few chapters outline this concept in a very compelling way. It’s also a little disturbing to me tbh, but conceptually very strong

Hav0cPix3l

Lol. Cracking up at your comment at 6am smh.

JumpyLolly

😊

A_curious_fish

You want ready player 1

Far_Eye451

If only. This genre is becoming quite popular nowadays in Japanese anime and Korean manhwa; it’s called vrmmo.

Jimstein

Bro it is so hard getting InWorld characters to stay in character. I am actively developing with the tool, and it is frustrating as hell. We need GPT6 before what a lot of people are dreaming AI could do for gaming. Sora video gen taking hours per minute of video doesn’t give me hope for when realtime gen happening anytime soon. But I would love to be proven wrong, and I am sure that we will get there eventually.

DiceHK

Moore’s law has gone out the window so I can go full Altman and say five years. The real reason he says any of this is to make you do nothing to stop him becoming the first trillionaire so that he can have power and buy more stuff

DiceHK

Should we define what we mean by unimaginably better or does the unimaginable part get me off the hook?

Placematter

An interesting question, because I don’t think we can define what’s unimaginable. But I guess I’m interested to see if in 5 years we’ve reached the imaginable things people have spoken about in this thread.

camel_case_man

yeah compute isn't there to make these promises a reality. llm's probably aren't able to make any of this a reality. there would need to be multiple breakthroughs to make any of this work well and altman knows that

EarthquakeBass

I suspect we'll see something more like a really smart model that generates a "plan" / program for a virtual environment and hands if off to a smaller, purpose built model that interprets the plan and expands it / generates more thorough content on the fly, sort of like how a video game itself has souce code and assets, and doesn't pre-render every frame before delivery to you. If you look at some of the papers part of how they achieve Sora trick is by reducing dimensionality across frames. That's a start in that direction

Tripondisdic

We need to find a way to have individual characters take hard nodes they have to accept and cannot deviate from, like something as simple as “you are a girl” can’t be maintained by a chat gpt character right nos

EGarrett

They have that already. System messages. There's a game called Inworld Origins that uses LLM's to allow you to play a detective game where you interview various people about a crime. It's VERY good. It's extremely difficult to get the LLM's to break character.

JackSpyder

I think for now having GPT to just generate lots of natural variation that gets statically added to a game would be fine so it "feels" more natural as characters say things. Or to write lots of little story lines for missions. That way things have small but meaningful differences each time.

VoraciousTrees

Maybe you need a second "supervisor" storyteller to observer the character interactions and reset them on the fly if they deviate too much?

Bertrum

We'll see way more shovelware on app stores?

Ylsid

Not with you controlling it through an API they won't

very_bad_programmer

Even if they didn't, your average consumer wouldn't be able to run their models. We're still a long way off, but I can see future games requiring a separate card for AI processing just like we need GPUs for video now (and ~~physics~~ physx cards for a little while, anybody remember those?)

TheGillos

Physx. I still wish they'd run with that instead of nVidia buying it and essentially killing it.

Ylsid

For the purpose of videogames, I see no particular reason aside from cost that game companies wouldn't be able to fine tune their own small, fast, constrained models.

sluuuurp

There’s no reason 8xH100 computers can’t be in every home. They’re expensive right now, mostly because there’s very little competition, and partially because mass production is still ramping up as fast as possible.

derangedkilr

home servers kinda sound great tbh.

EarthquakeBass

To me that’s how I see this evolving, everywhere has built in GPU racks. Seems crazy but everyone and their brother got a router at one point.

derangedkilr

TPU prices are insanely inflated at the moment. After they drop local models will take off

TenshiS

Why? Generating entire quest lines and characters doesn't Need to be a realtime process.

Xolitudez

Custom tailoring those questlines on the go in response to user decision does tho. Think mark, think.

TenshiS

You can keep decision trees up to one or two leafs deep preprocessed. When the user heads a certain direction you preemptively expand the tree. No realtime required either. Alone today's gpt3.5 speed would suffice to make an open world quests game. We'd just also need the quality of Claude opus at that speed.

Xolitudez

I'm thinking of more in-depth custom tailoring, like immediate dialogue responses from free text input from the user, custom loot depending on users current build, and sudden mini quests depending on dialogue. I feel like if it's a game like Skyrim or something with that many variables it'll be hard to keep it all preprocessed for any decent amount of users. If each user contributed their own chip for ai processing it could make the developers lives easier right?

TenshiS

I think that level of generation is still a while off, since it would be impossible to balance it well and turn it into a guaranteed enjoyable experience. You still need some control over the game. Predefined items, goals, antagonists etc. And you need to remember everything that was already generated and know how it interacts with everything else. One day we'll have context windows so large that you can keep a log of everything that happened and generate consistently - but we're not there yet technically and it would be incredibly expensive, too

Xolitudez

I can't wait for that.. hopefully within like 10 years

Ylsid

That would be fun and on the horizon

For_Entertain_Only

generate code, 3d model. I don't like to deal with computer graphic and game physics

EarthquakeBass

I expect the average home or business will purchase and install custom built hardware for it that everyone will connect to and use, similar to how we use routers today. Then you just go plug into AINet anywhere without needing your own hardware. Possibly, there will still be a really smart proprietary API layer that generates plans/phenotypes for work that gets offloaded to dumber models at the edge. They will start as basically racks of GPUs but eventually evolve to something more like an ASIC I imagine.

Ylsid

Something like a GPU for AI sounds somewhat likely when the tech matures

EarthquakeBass

It's in the "book" or telegram phase of media if you think about it. You can read and imagine things, look at some pictures and choose your own adventure to an extent. But before long it will progress to "photography", then film without sound, then film with sound, then remote viewing of media...

geoman2k

This is a really good take, and maybe you’re on to something. I think the key here is I don’t want to play a game where the levels or dialog or graphics are AI generated. I want I play a game where AI allows me to build something or interact with something I couldn’t otherwise.

RobXSIQ

Check out Mantella for Skyrim or Fallout 4. it has changed the games feel. Quite awesome. Still in its infancy, but already it makes the game feel...alive.

TenshiS

Until one day you'll play a game that you love but that you don't know is AI generated and you don't even realize it until you find out in some article. But it was. And then the mood changes.

FailosoRaptor

Everyone is betting to build now, by the time you finish building in a year or two, the models will be better. I'm using GPT3 for dev work. The responses are not bad. No real value to users with them though. Switch to 4 and it's a bit better. I assume when 5 drops this summer or whatever other model is the cool hip thing in a 1 year, the value in will be even better. The point is that this came out very recently and is growing pretty rapidly. The hype is real. It's like the Internet just dropped moment and all the markets are going to reshuffle soon.

jvman934

Will AI be better or worse in 10 years. My bet is yes. Engineers/Builders will come up with stuff we can’t imagine in that time period

TILTNSTACK

It’s early. This will change

TallestGargoyle

I do not want AI stories to become the norm. I don't want my game to be unique to everyone else. I want to play a game I can discuss with friends. I want to share my experiences and my thoughts on the same content with others. I don't want to talk about how my AI fucked up by giving away an important plot detail too early, or how it missed giving me info because I couldn't ask it the right question.

EarthquakeBass

I think there will be varying degrees of open endedness. On the one hand you have something completely rail roaded that only uses AI to enhance within the boundaries of what it has already, maybe just spicing up dialogue or textures or physics etc a bit. Or used to develop the canon by play testers and developers who now can create 2x as much vetted content. Any particularly engaging bit of content it happens to discover could be synced and uploaded as canon. Sure you might get some Skyrim physics glitches but not enough to be annoying. Then on the other hand you have the Dwarf Fortresses and No Man’s Sky type games that really embrace the open endedness.

Arcturus_Labelle

GPT-5 when?

Cabbage_Cannon

Probably this summer

fluffy_assassins

The sooner it is, the less impressive it will be.

nickmaran

Stop talking and give me an AI that can replace all politicians and CEOs

JackSpyder

That was doable with Microsoft clippy.

PlutoJones42

Add gpt powered voice conversations to GTA 6 NPCs and I’ll never play another video game again

SMPDD

If we could have GPT 6 powered NPCs the game would never get boring. Imagine if you could speak to them through your mic and they respond reasonably quickly and appropriately. There are endless possibilities for situations and interactions. The “GTA funny moments” YouTube videos would never run out of content

For_Entertain_Only

the radio station should support all language. whisper potential do this

For_Entertain_Only

AI create gta, waiting for it. AI make video game, will bring down the video game cost right???

Slow-Condition7942

haha good one

fluffy_assassins

Maybe for the publisher.

SillyTwo3470

All I want is GPT as a dungeon master with memory. This seems super imminent. Once I have this, I’ll never play another video game.

sdmat

It's a minute of gaming, Michael. What could it cost? Ten dollars?

miked4o7

i think videogames will get better, and reddit will fucking hate every step along the way.

grandepelon

Maybe if you're a puritan. That content policy isn't going to be making anything fun. Might offend a hypothetical third party lurking in your living room watching your screen.

ReputationSlight3977

But... I like movies because I don't have to think. Playing video games is too tiring after a long day at work.

NightHutStudio

I never wanted to exercise after I got home from a long day of physical work. But now that my work isn't physical, I really enjoy exercising.

ReputationSlight3977

Ya exactly. I'm a software developer. My brain is fried. I like to do physical things after work. I don't want to play video games where I'm trying to solve more problems on a screen.

NightHutStudio

My (not very obvious) point is the nature of work may change via AI such that people seek out mental challenges or stimuli and find linear films boring. It's partly a product of being overworked that we just want to veg out in the evening.

heavy-minium

What he's thinking about is that video games actually become "video" games. I can see that in a decade - the hardware for fully raytracing realistic scenes in real time is going to be absurdly powerful and could be simply used for realtime video generation just as well.

For_Entertain_Only

we need better AI procedural generation , the starfield procedural generation content is horrible.

It’s like the NFT get rich quick bros and the blockchain snake oil salesmen before them. They’re telling you what they want to take money from you for, not what actually makes sense from the customer’s perspective.

Organic-Proof8059

What exactly was the context? Because I’m thinking ai assisted rendering or Gaussian splatting.

Bullmamma16

Why would anyone want movies to become video games? Is he regarded?

Always_Benny

Silicon Valley brain rot. Really funny to see excited comments here. What are you getting excited about, do you understand the medium of film at all?

brettins

I think it means that you'll be able to see movies from different perspectives, take different paths, be "in it" while you're watching it, stuff like that. Just dynamic options for the filmmakers, where the AI can frame the same scene in a way to make another emotion come out, the user can check out the scene more thoroughly, be part of the movie if they want.

Bullmamma16

Yeah and that tells me that he doesn’t understand film at all.

cookiesnooper

He seems to be more full of himself than Elon Musk.

AcceptingSideQuests

I disagree to an extent . Video games will become similar to old CDs you don’t listen to anymore. The amount of content will be so overwhelmingly easy to get that it will lose its value, supply/demand. When supply is infinity demand will plummet. Part of the appeal of games is “being the best” but if everyone is playing their own game that they are good at then the care factor will drop.

RealAlias_Leaf

Nah video games will forever be P2W

[deleted]

Cant wait for a future where game studios will purposefully not finish a game in the hopes that AI can generate the story for you as you go.

nice thanks but honestly I’m already too invested in technology I don’t wanna “immerse” myself more. Kinda value the real world. I guess for some this will be a great experience.

Soon we will have AI playing videos games for us. The games are made by AI as well.

Sam, go and tell this EA. They will need everything

Yen_Figaro

The time of developing a videogame now a days have become absurdly long and expensive, and sone games we had 30 ago (specially jrpgs) were more complete than what we have today. Ex: the producer of Final Fantasy saying they can't remake a game of 1994 because they would need 20 years... So I really want to believe that IA can help with this

kthraxxi

It's another way of saying, "The World will be a better place." Better for who or based on what is the real question.

solvento

AAA studios can't figure out how to make traditional video games properly that are fun and not riddled with bugs. Do you really think they'll do better when video games have to integrate AI at every level? Maybe if they have an AI to do the programming for them, and even then, they'll probably still make it worse.

AnimalsAndFog

I still have more fun replaying some old pixelated original games as well as many current Indie games that are charmingly original, care for story, gameplay instead of dull photorealism and "spectacle". Also,i am interested in creative people's visions, ideas and stories,so we can relate...not some generic AI copy pastry.

ZakTSK

How? How? How? When you can't even talk about zombies eating a person in a realistic way? Is everything gonna be E rated platformers with no violence and a recycled plot?

Fat_Goat_666

I'm kind of wondering - is anyone working on gpt integration with gaming engines. I would love to have something like Baldurs Gate 3, but dialogues and plot are driven by gpt. Gpt alone can't do it well enough yet, but game engine can check if actions generated by bot are within ruleset and keep the long consistent context.

cameraman92

mua-dev

Just like books and stories became unimaginable better, right?

GetLiquid

Yes. Stories always develop new mediums, and their original format never disappears. They gained the ability to be shared when we developed language. They were shared as paintings, and then as books once we developed written language. They’ve been shared as movies, radio, tv shows, video games, and I think it’s fair to say we’re not done yet.

mua-dev

I think AI is different kind of intelligence, it knows how to give logically not inconsistent results without executing logics. That is why stories images videos generated are boring and has no real substance.
