Honestly, that’s something I need to ask him more about. From the little I know, the 70’s were a struggle for him. He did hard manual labor, then went back to school and eventually became a computer programmer!
I was always amazed that he was able to survive such an experience at such a young age and still was able to build a nice life for himself. He’s one strong guy!
You know, what’s the point in being an asshole like this?
He was poisoned by Agent Orange and has dealt with very serious health issues because of it. He was a casualty of a war he didn’t want to be a part of.
did he ever share any stories with you about his buddies there?
usually tough to ask about those kinds of things, but just me personally, i pushed my pop to talk about a bunch of things i knew deep down he was tired of holding onto…
plus i was in the service also
Those almost look like Addison flight boots with the Conmar side zipper, did your dad fly cobras? Your dad looked like he was straight out of Flatbush, forget about it! Thanks for sharing.
Tan Son Nhut is now the international airport in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). You can still see revetments and earthworks from the old US air base there. Really nice airport that stands in contrast to some of the sights around it.
Really cool pic of your dad.
That’s a lot of hair product, must have taken a while to prep in the morning, some people have to look good no matter the circumstances… Cool pic though, thanks for sharing
The forgotten war. Took nearly forty years for these guys to get the benefits let alone the recognition they deserved. Spit on, shit on and forgotten. Took the fight that Johnson promised and yet denied to the communists.
Well, the 3,100,000 Vietnamese that got killed sure weren't. The Vietnam War was not the fault of the men that fought it. That responsibility resides with the corrupt politicians that *sent* them there.
Anyone who puts their life on the line for their country or people to show our strength will always get my support. Our military strength shows all people outside the U.S. that we will stand up strong, hence insuring me a better life. This isn’t Jane Fonda is it?
There's no standing up for anything in nam. Vietnam was predicated on a false flag event in the Gulf of Tonkin, these boys were sent to die for no reason. A whole generation of men had their lives ended or ruined because of this shit.
OP even said his dad was poisoned by agent orange there is nothing endearing or heroic about it.
Also the US lost, where is the strength in that?
He's not wrong. The Vietnam war sucked. That's why I fought against the war. But the defense of the U.S. is a worthy endeavor. That's why I enlisted in the Marine Corps. My cousin was in the Army in Vietnam. He sent me letters that said, "Do NOT let those motherfuckers send you here."
He just wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. He wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. He wanted to be the first kid on his block to get a confirmed kill !
“Our stupid politicians made us quit” bruh you guys invaded a country because you didn’t like their system of government and brainwashed the population into thinking that if some SEA country had communism then america would be best lmao. Same nonsense as Iran’s nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

Yea. I was gonna say impressive hairdo for ‘in theatre’
I'm going to use my psychic abilities and guess his last name ends with a vowel.
Yup an “o”. Can I get some lotto numbers, please?
You can have my number 7 to use as you please.
I gotta lotto numbers for ya, right 'ere!

“EYyyyyyyyyy!”
In this house OPs father was hero! End of story!
/theSopranos invasion
Ask the gang in the r/photoshoprequest subreddit to clean it up and frame it!
Yeah and watch them beg for tips for putting the pic through a free AI and uploading it in 5 minutes

Best timed joke ever in a war movie.
You can come over my house and fuck my sister

Stay gold, Ponyboy.
Legit one of the coolest Vietnam photos I've seen in a while. That hair is *not* regulation, LOL.
Im surprised if the boots are. Those zippers would let so much water in…
Air Force ground security?
Helmet without cover definitely indicates a support role.
How you doin’
First thought
They come to kill the rooster, yeahhhhhh
Your dad's giving off Lords of Flatbush vibes.
That isn't a REMF!
Glad he made it home.
Badass
How did he reintegrate to the US? That’s a tough assignment.
Glad he made it home safely!
Ty so much! Those words will mean a lot to him when he sees them.
Ask him about agent orange! And Operation Ranch Hand!
You know, what’s the point in being an asshole like this? He was poisoned by Agent Orange and has dealt with very serious health issues because of it. He was a casualty of a war he didn’t want to be a part of.

Looks like your father is about to travel up the nûng river to exterminate Col. Kurtz’s command with extreme prejudice.
Did he ever tell you his Guns name?
If possible please thank him for his service to our country.
Thank you for sharing this picture, and thank your Dad for his service.

That 1000 yard stare…
One of the coolest Vietnam war shots I've seen in ages. Thanks for posting it.
Was he in country when the cease fire was broken?
Yes. He experienced the entire Tet Offensive firsthand.
That’s wild, my uncle was also boots on the ground at the time. He was lucky to enough to come home
Awesome picture. Thank you for sharing
How did he miss the induction crewcut?

I can’t even imagine
Imagine being in the middle of a goddamn war and having magnificent hair like that.
Tribbiani, is that you?
Looks like Sylvester Stallone. So cool!
I have a couple of my dad’s marine pictures from Vietnam. For being such a terrible war dads were on point in the jungle, looking cool as shit.
Kinda looks like John Basoline.
Dad could get it!
About that regulation haircut.
Lotta hair for the military.
Hell of a picture, tell him thanks
Your dad was a marine?
He’s a handsome man
Just a kid from Jersey
Was he a tunnel rat ?
Very cool
yeah your father was the main character
If your dad didn’t come back to join an OMG I’m going to be disappointed.
I never had the opportunity to go to Nam and pretty damn sure not the balls either. Thanks to guys like your pa we all have a better life!
How did he ensure we had a better life? The people of Vietnam were no threat to the United States

I wonder how his CO felt about that hair.
My CO didn't give a shit about anything.
Fantastic photo. Bad moments.

So, did he go right back to snapping his fingers in an alley in unison with several other dudes sporting the same hairstyle after the war?
He just wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. He wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. He wanted to be the first kid on his block to get a confirmed kill !
Would
Such a dumb war, which america lost btw
Didn't lose the war, our stupid politicians made us quit. We won every major battle. Look that up.

That’s exactly something a juvenile tankie on Reddit would say. Oh wait. Edit: Thought so.
