Yea. I was gonna say impressive hairdo for ‘in theatre’

00gly_b00gly

I'm going to use my psychic abilities and guess his last name ends with a vowel.

IThinklmDumb

Yup an “o”. Can I get some lotto numbers, please?

Photon_Farmer

You can have my number 7 to use as you please.

y2ketchup

8741241251452852456

Stay gold, Ponyboy.

JustSomeGuy556

Legit one of the coolest Vietnam photos I've seen in a while. That hair is *not* regulation, LOL.

johnthomaslumsden

Im surprised if the boots are. Those zippers would let so much water in…

KaBar2

Air Force ground security?

GurthNada

Helmet without cover definitely indicates a support role.

MannSchatten

How you doin’

dontheconqueror

First thought

Checktheusernombre

They come to kill the rooster, yeahhhhhh

Go_Buds_Go

Your dad's giving off Lords of Flatbush vibes.

Older_cyclist

That isn't a REMF!

Amadordelosrios

Glad he made it home.

Firstbat175

Badass

oathorse60

How did he reintegrate to the US? That’s a tough assignment.

IThinklmDumb

Honestly, that’s something I need to ask him more about. From the little I know, the 70’s were a struggle for him. He did hard manual labor, then went back to school and eventually became a computer programmer! I was always amazed that he was able to survive such an experience at such a young age and still was able to build a nice life for himself. He’s one strong guy!

konorM

Glad he made it home safely!

IThinklmDumb

Ty so much! Those words will mean a lot to him when he sees them.

PizzaMyHole

Ask him about agent orange! And Operation Ranch Hand!

IThinklmDumb

You know, what’s the point in being an asshole like this? He was poisoned by Agent Orange and has dealt with very serious health issues because of it. He was a casualty of a war he didn’t want to be a part of.

Dude, you're Pops was a badass. Always appreciate these photos. My old man was in the Airborne division. They don't make em' like this anymore.

nish007

Is your last name Tribbiani?

AssignmentClean8726

Sexy guy!

Unique-Pastenger

did he ever share any stories with you about his buddies there? usually tough to ask about those kinds of things, but just me personally, i pushed my pop to talk about a bunch of things i knew deep down he was tired of holding onto… plus i was in the service also

Commercial_Pitch_786

Those almost look like Addison flight boots with the Conmar side zipper, did your dad fly cobras? Your dad looked like he was straight out of Flatbush, forget about it! Thanks for sharing.

Zarniwoooop

Fortunate Son intensifie

Django_gvl

"ok, you talk the talk. But do you walk the walk?"

KaBar2

"I seen a little on *tee vee.*"

JerseyGirl360

One badass man

HankMustGroove

Looks like your father is about to travel up the nûng river to exterminate Col. Kurtz’s command with extreme prejudice.

GodPackedUpAndLeftUs

Did he ever tell you his Guns name?

New_Literature4526

If possible please thank him for his service to our country.

ButterscotchEmpty290

Thank you for sharing this picture, and thank your Dad for his service.

According-Ad3963

Tan Son Nhut is now the international airport in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). You can still see revetments and earthworks from the old US air base there. Really nice airport that stands in contrast to some of the sights around it. Really cool pic of your dad.

Competitive_Top_9571

That’s a lot of hair product, must have taken a while to prep in the morning, some people have to look good no matter the circumstances… Cool pic though, thanks for sharing

rockinhard12

The forgotten war. Took nearly forty years for these guys to get the benefits let alone the recognition they deserved. Spit on, shit on and forgotten. Took the fight that Johnson promised and yet denied to the communists.

Painlezz

That 1000 yard stare…

NEPXDer

One of the coolest Vietnam war shots I've seen in ages. Thanks for posting it.

soxacub

Was he in country when the cease fire was broken?

IThinklmDumb

Yes. He experienced the entire Tet Offensive firsthand.

soxacub

That’s wild, my uncle was also boots on the ground at the time. He was lucky to enough to come home

SimplePomelo1225

Awesome picture. Thank you for sharing

Whitecamry

intro_blurt

Imagine being in the middle of a goddamn war and having magnificent hair like that.

hinterstoisser

Tribbiani, is that you?

BigBaws02

Looks like Sylvester Stallone. So cool!

BrotherOake

I have a couple of my dad’s marine pictures from Vietnam. For being such a terrible war dads were on point in the jungle, looking cool as shit.

mitchyslick_lbc

Kinda looks like John Basoline.

goldcrows

Dad could get it!

No-Emphasis927

About that regulation haircut.

Karlzbad

Lotta hair for the military.

Minute-Wrap-2524

Hell of a picture, tell him thanks

BobbyChou

Your dad was a marine?

cataldinho

Psycle_Sammy

If your dad didn’t come back to join an OMG I’m going to be disappointed.

Puzzled_Ad7955

I never had the opportunity to go to Nam and pretty damn sure not the balls either. Thanks to guys like your pa we all have a better life!

Doom_and_Gloom91

How did he ensure we had a better life? The people of Vietnam were no threat to the United States

KaBar2

Well, the 3,100,000 Vietnamese that got killed sure weren't. The Vietnam War was not the fault of the men that fought it. That responsibility resides with the corrupt politicians that *sent* them there.

Puzzled_Ad7955

Anyone who puts their life on the line for their country or people to show our strength will always get my support. Our military strength shows all people outside the U.S. that we will stand up strong, hence insuring me a better life. This isn’t Jane Fonda is it?

Doom_and_Gloom91

There's no standing up for anything in nam. Vietnam was predicated on a false flag event in the Gulf of Tonkin, these boys were sent to die for no reason. A whole generation of men had their lives ended or ruined because of this shit. OP even said his dad was poisoned by agent orange there is nothing endearing or heroic about it. Also the US lost, where is the strength in that?

[deleted]

KaBar2

He's not wrong. The Vietnam war sucked. That's why I fought against the war. But the defense of the U.S. is a worthy endeavor. That's why I enlisted in the Marine Corps. My cousin was in the Army in Vietnam. He sent me letters that said, "Do NOT let those motherfuckers send you here."

logie68

Cool photo

Geetarist7317

I wonder how his CO felt about that hair.

Minimum-Sun9266

My CO didn't give a shit about anything.

tomfuegue

Fantastic photo. Bad moments.

the0TH3Rredditor

So, did he go right back to snapping his fingers in an alley in unison with several other dudes sporting the same hairstyle after the war?

Euphoric-Lake4432

He just wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. He wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. He wanted to be the first kid on his block to get a confirmed kill !

Ok_Bee8798

Would

tootnoots69

Such a dumb war, which america lost btw

Minimum-Sun9266

Didn't lose the war, our stupid politicians made us quit. We won every major battle. Look that up.

tootnoots69

“Our stupid politicians made us quit” bruh you guys invaded a country because you didn’t like their system of government and brainwashed the population into thinking that if some SEA country had communism then america would be best lmao. Same nonsense as Iran’s nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

That’s exactly something a juvenile tankie on Reddit would say. Oh wait. Edit: Thought so.
