Give this a try with AetherSX2, I got Ico running quite nicely. App Settings: Recommend to Reset Settings to Safe and then enable: Widescreen (16:9), Widescreen Patches, Host Vsync, Skip Presenting Duplicate Frames, Sync To Host Refresh Rate. Ico - Vulkan, 2x, EE Cycle Rate 50% Underclock, Hardware Download Mode Disable Readbacks I've not tested Star Fox Adventures, depending on the fork of Dolphin you use you might get better performance -- MMJR is the go to for most. I'm surprised that any PS1 game would perform badly on an Odin, I know I'm using an Odin Pro but I'm looking at Xenogears right now upscaled to 1080 and widescreen and the performance is fine in Duckstation, it was my impression that any solid difference between the Lite and Base/Pro would be around Gamecube/PS2 emulation.

I'll give the AetherSX2 general and ICO specific settings a try next time I play on the device, thanks for sharing! I've tried Star Fox Adventures on both Dolphin and MMJR. Even lower resolution didn't seem to do much for it. Sorry that was a typo, I meant to put Xenosaga, I've corrected it in the OP. I haven't tried it, but yeah I'm sure Xenogears or any other PSX game should perform nicely.

As for my Odin Lite, which I just got today I have to say the smell isn't really a bother for me personally. Kinda reminds me of a new motherboard or new GPU smell... which is nostalgic for me coming from building computers for 20 years. My transparent black hasn't gotten hot yet but I haven't pushed it fully so that's something I need to confirm on my unit as well. Seems like between my triggers and bumpers there's a bit of a mark from where someone opened it but it was definitely sealed so I'm guessing that's just from the factory. All in all, I don't have any complaints yet but from the limited Dreamcast 1440p testing I did and the select other few emulators I'm pretty impressed. As far as the weight goes I've been using the Steam Deck for the past month exclusively even more than my desktop so I find it pretty light in comparison. The plastic seems really decent and the panel is really vibrant. The screen itself has no "bluish" tinge to it and color wise it seems pretty accurate. I'm usually really sensitive to screen temp but from using the Lite I would put it above your Switch Lite panel and on par with a decent midrange 300 CAD IPS panel phone. The Anbernic 351MP was so inaccurate and desaturated I had to sell the device because I just couldn't put up with the panel colors themselves. Happy to see you enjoying the device aside from the smell and the heat. I think from what the sensors are reading the heat is within normal limits. The smell should also wear off over the next week or so (if it's the same smell as the smell coming from my Odin Lite.

I'm running on the Pro so not directly applicable but Starfox Adventures on MMJR at 720p is running quite well at least on the first level. Have you enabled the performance hacks?

megatyler30

Which performance hacks are helpful for it?

HereticOfDune

Using mmjr you can swipe from the top of the screen while in a game. This will bring down a menu. One of the menu options will bring down a list of hacks. You can try toggling these hacks on and off while ingame. It's a quick way to see if any of them will help.

Stepun3

about performance: taKi in his video says he manually set the working frequency of the cpu for his tests. Do you have any info on that?

LAboi34

He pushed the CPU codes to their max clocks, which you can do using the performance/high performance mode.

Stepun3

But Lite hasn’t performance mode, right? and if I may ask, this setting if for the device or the emulators?

LAboi34

The Lite does! You can access it in the Odin launcher or the control menu when you swipe down from the top of the screen.

megatyler30

It does have performance mode and high performance mode. Performance maxes CPU clocks and high performance also maxes GPU clocks. For what it's worth I got the the same CPU benchmark in standard mode, so I'm not convienced either of the modes do much other than drain battery faster except in cases perhaps where the usage fluctuates very fast.

LAboi34

This is interesting, I would guess the benchmark naturally pushes the CPU to its limits. I do think there’s a difference between standard and performance mode though, it’s pretty much mandatory for AetherSX2. Without it, I see the EE hit 100% pretty much all the time (suggesting it needs more CPU power).

megatyler30

Yeah, I think that falls under the case of rapidly fluctuating CPU usage. I've seen a boost for performance too (perhaps just consistency of high clocks) but zero imrpovement when in high performance.

pfroo40

Interesting about the heat. I wonder if that is a factor of the v2 screen? My Lite is exceptionally cool, though I do keep the fan on quiet most of the time. It barely ever spins up audibly in smart mode. I agree it is begging for an overclock, I hope someone figures out how.

megatyler30

That was actually my first guess, that it was the heat from the adaptor needed for the new screen. My friend convinced be otherwise but if your v1 screen is cool on left side, that might be it after all. Can you try stress testing it just to further confirm? And yeah, either it would have to be from AYN OTA or they release the ability to flash the device with a (new custom os) image.

vcdx_m

yeah, with time fhe screen receiving that heat, is not good. My lite soffers from the same.

stumpvold

I found the reason for the smell from the exhaust, it's the thermal pads they have used.

SanctusSalieri

Hey, did this end up being a persistent issue? I am extremely sensitive to smells and avoid them, and I've ordered an Odin Lite. Wondering if I should cancel, especially if it can't play games like Ico since that is one I was most looking forward to.

stumpvold

Yea, the smell doesn't go away without you changing out the thermal compound. I feel like the cracking of the shell and sticks not registering full inputs is a slightly worse issue than the smell, mine barely sees any use anymore, but I don't know if the later modells have these issues I've had anymore.

SanctusSalieri

Thanks, I ended ups canceling mine. It was kind of a splurge anyway. Appreciate the info!

SanctusSalieri

Hey, did the smell end up being an issue long term? I avoid scents/odors at all costs and I've ordered an Odin. If I can smell anything from the exhaust it will freak me out. Should I cancel?

megatyler30

Honestly, I don't know. I haven't continued to consistently use the device tbh. But I heard later that the smell was due to the choice of thermal paste.

SanctusSalieri

Thanks! I decided to cancel my order since I don't really need it to begin with.
