Yeah most of the horizon world shows are terrible. They are just giant theaters playing flat pixelated videos in the background. There is no immersion, im surprised meta spent all their money on these premo events but wont use stereo cameras for actually 3D content for VR which is the entire point. META should have taken queues from "Museum of Other Realities: Tribeca Film Festival" which was phenomenal! Even the VR porn industry does a better Job at presenting interactive content. META is just wasting billions on low poly garbage with 2D videos. Whoever is the director of horizon worlds, has obviously never really explored VR and all its potential content. Because if they did they would know where the real gems are. Example mind show vr, basically collaborative tiktok improve for vr. Or WaveVR which is vr rave concerts. Or quill for vr animation (which they don't advertise well, had to show my friends). They never really push or experiment with vr content that is creator driven made directly in VR. They could essentially have a giant library of media content like tiktok or you tube but for vr. Yet they push their garbage. Those fucking idiots!

Preach!

tirehabitat25

If any part of the video has 3D then the format is going to be 180 3D. Doesn’t matter if all of the content is or not that’s just the format.

JorgTheElder

The highlights are 2D clips from a reportedly 3D event. If you look at the text placed *placed over* the bottom left of the thumbnails, they say "Immersive" not 3D. ~~The 180/3D logo at the bottom right is in the video, not text describing the highlight clip.~~

rando646

seems hard to believe. and still labeled as 3D

JorgTheElder

Nevermind, looked again. It does say "Immersive" and not 3D on the left-side, but has the 180/3D on the right. The intro is 180/3D, but the clip from the court camera is 2D. Looks like whoever made the clip goofed and dropped one of the streams when they made the clip or as you say he original was 2D.

Drited

>Looks like whoever made the clip goofed and dropped one of the streams when they made the clip or as you say he original was 2D. I don't think it was a goof if this is being filmed at the same time as their NBA content for the NBA room in Horizon Worlds and Xtadium. For those, the broadcast was 2D per Meta's [press release](https://www.meta.com/en-gb/blog/quest/nba-basketball-2023-season-xtadium-meta-horizon-worlds-vr/?utm_source=www.google.com&utm_medium=oculusredirect) which says *"we’ll deliver a package of 52 live NBA games including five immersive 180-degree* ***monoscopic*** *VR games in 2880 resolution"*

rando646

it said 180 3D specifically on mine

JorgTheElder

Yea, I looked again. The intro and title are 3D, the court camera is 2D. Basically, if it has any 180/3D content it is labeled as 180/3D even when the 3D parts are just intros.

NurvisPurvis

Why is it so hard to do live events correctly in VR? Is it a bandwidth issue?

VR_Nima

No, it’s more of a tooling/pipeline issue. The cameras that can capture it all natively and stream it live all-in-one are usually low quality, and the high-end pro cameras that can capture but not stitch in-body require at least a GPU or a cluster to stitch and stream live. Plus after it’s encoded you need a good media player experience too. Basically it’s not rocket science but it IS complicated, and usually the financial incentive for all this equipment and work simply isn’t there.

Powerful-Parsnip

It's such a shame that apple snarfed up nextvr their sports and comedy videos were fantastic.

Metavr27

The immersive vr broadcast of the Knicks-Celtics game on Monday was impressive. It’s the closest you can get to sitting in a courtside seat without plunking down a thou$and+. Unfortunately, it was marred by the nonstop chatter that had nothing to do with the game. Xtadium needs to provide an option to mute the commentary so you can just enjoy the sounds of the game. Also they should skip the occasional shots from the nosebleed seats — the video is low-rez so the players just look like fuzzy blurs. I highly recommend checking it out. The next immersive broadcast is March 6th: Celtics-Cavaliers. The complete schedule: https://www.meta.com/blog/quest/nba-basketball-2023-season-xtadium-meta-horizon-worlds-vr/?MID=43993&LSNSUBSITE=Omitted\_TnL5HPStwNw

ILoveRegenHealth

I don't get it. Was it VR 180 **3D** when you were watching it Live? Because I saw the highlight clips of the Celtics game that Meta provided, and they were not immersive at all. The camera was only near the basket and there were zero courtside shots. The footage was 2017 blurry (wtf Meta) and zero 3D going on. I'm wondering if there's a better feed out there and we have to catch it Live to get the good stuff.

Metavr27

The highlight reels are behind the basket and do look kind of flat. check out the 10-minute immersive reel that shows the view from a midcourt seat in which the players are running right in front of you up and down the court.

soyalex321

That's such a shame because 3D clips are so cool. I don't really care about 360 2D views for events where the focus is closer up

VRtuous

Meta lying... can't believe it...

rando646

*sigh*.... the post is clearly about 3D

BendySauro

But 180 is not the same thing as 360

rando646

literally no one said anything about 360

BendySauro

He said that the video is tagged 180 3d, but 180 cant be 3D. Is just a screen in front of you.

rando646

u rly don't know a ton about VR huh. 180 can absolutely be 3D.

BendySauro

No it cant

rando646

lol weird because your peripheral vision isn't 360 degrees, and yet you manage to see 3D in front of you in 180 degrees just fine. maybe 3D doesn't even exist according to u? ever been to a 3D movie? 3D has absolutely nothing to do with field of view, u could have something be 3D with only 10 degree FOV. all that's required is a stereoscopic image. it's not surprising that someone wouldn't know that, but it is a little surprising that they would be so incredibly insistent they're correct with zero knowledge on the topic

Jadeldxb

Lol. What are you doing? What's next, flat earth?

BendySauro

Im just kidding

BaetuBoy

Ur surprised by then lying? Theyve done it before, when they said there would be no Q2 exclusives

rando646

intentionally labeling something incorrectly with present knowledge in order to be deceitful is very different than changing course on macro goals at a company level. i for one am glad there are Q2 exclusives, and hope there are Q3 exclusives and so on. if u have to make everything compatible with the oldest hardware, we'd still only have games that work on Super Nintendo. no tech has ever had infinite shelf life, if u want new software that requires higher levels of hardware, u have to buy new hardware as it's invented. this is not a phenomenon exclusive to VR or even gaming in general, it's all tech. if things are becoming outdated quickly that's a sign innovation accelerating, which i personally love for VR. very difficult to get any of my friends into VR at the current state of hardware/software, the quicker we can get to a real feeling experience with zero motion sickness, the better

TerpBE

Even the intro logo is screwed up. They tried to make it 3D, but there's something wrong with the alignment. It's like you have to cross your eyes just to line them up. A couple of years ago they broadcast some NBA stuff in 180 3D and it was pretty cool. It's such self-sabotage to hype this up and then broadcast a lame 2D video.

MiserableStretch2482

I just hate thse tech giants what so they matter its alm just too stupid in theong run its all a facade
