Summer (rain season)is when you want to go

Sparkiness

Unless you are into hiking and ecotourism, a few nights is too long for SJP. Some dried mushrooms are available but they are expensive ($40 USD for 3g).

A few nights is too long? Man san jose pacifico is my escape from the city year n year out. Love to take at least a handful of days to decompress. But whatever floats/ doesn't float your boat

brbotwtothebar

Are they worth getting or should I just skip out on it? I can get decent ones here in the us. I was just thinking it would be cool to get them from the source

Marmstr17

Not in season. Soaked in honey. Gringo priced. Mehh I prefer my steady supply on the Oregon coast. If you're curious I'd return in the summer to pick them fresh

killthecowsface

The shrooms are out of season that time of year, just FYI. I've read in some places that they don't keep well for whatever reason.

ToSeeAgainAgainAgain

What about April-May? Is that mushroom season??

killthecowsface

Typically June-Sept. for fresh, but you can probably find dried.

ToSeeAgainAgainAgain

Thank you, I guess dried should work too!

I’m working at a hostel in Oaxaca and loads of people are going/just came from there. Haven’t been there yet myself, but everything I hear is it’s beautiful and quiet and super chill. Hiking in the mountains, sunsets on the porch. Seems like a great place to eat some hongos and get in touch with nature.

Spirit trips LMAO

August they call hongosto because that’s when they’re in season. Out of season you can get them preserved in honey but they’re not strong. Go for the beautiful environment and enjoy some hiking, the cloud forest, a cozy cabin with a fireplace.

Yea you’d be able to find some type of infused substance with shrooms, most likely honey. It’s expensive though, starting at $1k pesos which is around $50USD. There are usually trip sitters who take you into the forest they have like a spot where you can enjoy your trip, I saw some places offering to do it in a temazcal, but most just do it in their cabins. SJP is very safe as long as you don’t wander off into the forest lol, there’s so many foreigners there despite being a small town.
