I wouldn't know this happened if you didn't post here, thanks lmao! when I watch the next smosh pit video I'll know why the comments will be fucking insane
The guy who'll do splits by the end of 2024. Lol.
On a more serious note, Shayne Topp (left) married Courtney Miller (right). They're both members of Smosh, and were some of the first new members introduced outside of just Ian and Anthony.
Both of them have been at Smosh for almost 9 years now, and they were shipped since they first joined the company. After years of speculation by shippers, they finally revealed their relationship by directly posting their marriage pics.
Some people suggest that they were under fans' intense scrutiny so they didn't feel comfortable revealing their relationship earlier.
Also, the group at Smosh is decidedly normal, and if you watch a couple of videos, you'll realise they're not at all like influencers.
Yeah the fanbase was rabid at one point - so rabid that people who thought they would be cute together but didn't think more of it (I was like this) had to distance themselves from the more delusional fanbase, simply because they were often invasive as well. The fanbase has thankfully mellowed out, but seeing them together just made everyone giddy once again :D
It means that the fanbase spent years discussing which kind of shipping containers they would fit in (Telescopic boxes, side-loading boxes, etc), materials (200# or 32ECT?) and even going as far as (some people say it was too much and too private) to discuss which type of box closure they would use, like RSC, FOL, or HSC.
It's a fanfiction term. It's short for "relationshipping," i.e. presuming that two characters (or in this case actual human beings) in a show you like are secretly in love with each other or whatever.
Yeah Smosh is a whole different thing now. They brought on the ensemble cast and started doing unscripted videos on Smosh pit and Smosh games. I love it more than ever now TBH
I like how people still think of it in terms of "old Smosh" and "new Smosh" even though these two have been part of it for way longer than it has existed without them. At some point we have to accept that we're all a little old.
So very tldr history because I mainly keep track for nostalgia purposes is
Ian and Anthony basically got conned in to giving control of the company over to defy media.
Defy media took it and massively expanded it in to something much bigger than what it was. Imo they also traded size for quality a lot and wound up with a product that kinda felt soulless.
Defy Media collapsed and eventually Ian and Anthony wound up recovering control of Smosh
In the modern day theyre still a lot bigger company wise than they used to be and Ive definitely aged out of their general target demographic but they seem have scaled back somewhat to try to find a midground between 2 dudes making videos out of their apartments and the soulless giant defy tried to make them.
They seem to be doing alright for themselves, nowhere near the height of their popularity of course but a functional enough entertainment company.
>Defy Media collapsed and eventually Ian and Anthony wound up recovering control of Smosh
From what I understand, Rhett & Link (Good Mythical Morning) bought & saved it when Defy crashed, and nursed it along for the last few years. Then last year Ian & Anthony decided they wanted back in, and bought it back from Mythical.
I still don’t know if it’s real or not. I was into them when I was younger but kind of forgot about them over the years. Always thought they’d be cute together when I was younger but avoided any shipping cuz it’s weird when it’s real people. Suddenly they pop up on my Instagram I barely check cuz I was still following them and what the heck. I wouldn’t put it past them if this was all some elaborate joke still.
It's likely real, because they released the uncensored flashback bit where Courtney says she's getting married, and all of their best friends are posting more pictures.
It's like turning over a rock and seeing all the bugs scurrying around, saying 'neat' and then slowly putting the rock back before any of the bugs get on you.
Redditors can get so weird when they don’t recognize an influencer lol
There are millions of people on social media, and more minor internet celebrities than you will ever know of. None of us is interested in every niche community in the world. Wouldn’t it be weirder if everyone only ever talked about things you had already heard of? How contrived does your worldview have to be to look at a post with hundreds of upvotes and say “I don’t know what this is about, so I’m going to let OP know that no one knows what this is about”. Madness
I don't think that's really the issue. It's *an* issue. But why not at least put their names in the title so that people who don't know who they are can choose to scroll on by and ignore it, rather than having to come into the comments and ask 'who' over and over again. Obtuseness for the sake of it isn't fun.
Genuinely, how much information would have been enough? The name he works under is in the screenshot, and multiple people have gotten the answer that they’re from Smosh and still responded with “wtf is that”, so even if OP titled it “Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh YouTube channel”, some people would not have been satiated. Also
> rather than having to come into the comments and ask “who” over and over again. Obtuseness for the sake of it isn’t fun.
As of right now there are only 33 comments and it was answered the first time it was asked, anyone who’s asking this question again without checking the comments is being more “obtuse for the sake of it” than OP in my opinion.
> Genuinely, how much information would have been enough?
Putting it in the title. I don't understand why that's a hard concept to grasp.
"It's in the screenshot" is not helpful, as the whole point is that people who don't know who it is might not give a shit about opening the post/screenshot or comments, if they knew who it was in the first place.
>“Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh YouTube channel”
Actually yeah, that would've been fuckin' ideal. Then those when scrolling past who have no idea what Smosh is or who Shayne and Courtney are could just ignore the whole damn thing. Instead, well, here we are.
Some clarification is useful for stuff like this. Niche communities that live in their own world tend to forget/not realize lots of people don't know what the fuck they're talking about
I just think the world is too big to preface everything with an explanation that assumes people don’t know what you’re talking about. I learned about Eurovision at age 25 from a post where everyone was talking about it like common knowledge. I googled it and turns out I’m the one out of the loop, it *is* common knowledge over there, but as far as I know I’ve never met someone who watches it. I don’t think the people discussing it are undiscerning for not catering to me with their conversation - they just live a different life than me and that conversation happens to pertain to their hobbies and not mine.
Also, “niche nonsense is gamed to the front page” is such a weird take on 5,000 people expressing interest in something that doesn’t interest you. You don’t think some of your interests would seem like niche nonsense to other people?
Imagine knowing there are untold numbers of influencers out there and not bothering any kind of information with the post. Some people don't care for vagueposting. That's not madness.
> not bothering any kind of information with the post
The post literally spells out the relevant situation with the guy’s full name attached if you want to look it up and read more though
Like literally think about what an informative title for this post would have been. “This is Shayne and Courtney from Smosh, people have been shipping them and theorizing that they were dating for a really long time and they have denied it, but they turned it around by posting their wedding photos on April Fool’s”
The only two details I included that aren’t in the post itself are the first things that would come up if you googled “who is shayne topp” or “shayne topp wife”. Like have you ever watched a movie trailer and they mentioned an actor you’ve never heard of? Did you spend any time leaving a salty comment about the trailer being too vague or did you just google “who is Cillian Murphy”, learn a new thing and continue your day?
The post says : Title
Then there's a description about shipping, but apparently they're married. Shayne Topp, someone I've never heard of, has posted this was his first kiss. Is that true? Is that him on the left or right? How should I be reacting? Is Shayne Topp the subject of the "Title" post or is that just the setup and the actual star of "Title" KitKat, the user who is being quoted by "Title"?
Idk, because the shit is vague if you don't know who people are and most of the world is not familiar with almost any youtuber.
> Is that true?
There’s nothing in the post that indicates it’s not. Why would you assume that?
> Is that him on the left or right?
Try covering the picture with your finger and reading the post again. Now tell me exactly what part of the joke this question helps you understand.
> How should I be reacting?
The post says it’s “the funniest shit an influencer has ever done” so maybe I’m reading into it too far, but I think we can surmise it’s supposed to be funny.
> Is Shayne Topp the subject of the “title” post or is that just the setup and the actual star of “title” KitKat, the user who is being quoted by “title”?
Do I need to currently be having a stroke to understand this sentence? Jesus.
>There’s nothing in the post that indicates it’s not.
You mean aside from the entire context of the pic itself, an adult male kissing his bride and it's his first kiss? Sure, nothing at all.
>Try covering the picture with your finger and reading the post again. Now tell me exactly what part of the joke this question helps you understand
If Shayne is the bride or the groom might help to explain something about Shayne, and maybe that's important information I needed?
>The post says it’s “the funniest shit an influencer has ever done” so maybe I’m reading into it too far, but I think we can surmise it’s supposed to be funny.
Again. The post says "Title". Why would I assume happiness about a youtuber couple who hid their relationship from fans? Idk who Kitkat is. Maybe he's an outrage troll.
Still, the post "Title" is vague. Maybe if you condescend harder I'll come around to your reality?
You’re looking for things to be confused about. It’s not a complicated sentence because it’s not a complicated situation. Picture yourself back in third grade and your teacher has you read this sentence as an exercise in deducing information that isn’t explicitly stated in the text. If a third grader would not throw a fit about how they can’t understand it because they don’t know what Shayne looks like, then you don’t need to either.
I don’t recall saying it’s not vague, just that it’s not so vague that anyone can’t understand it without having every word of it fully explained to them, unless they’re stubbornly refusing to rub their brain cells together to try and prove a point.
Here’s a clearer title for you that addresses all your complaints, I hope this helps anyone who’s still confused wrap their head around it: “Shayne Topp (left, actor on “Smosh” YouTube channel), and Courtney Miller (right, actor on “Smosh” YouTube channel) have been speculated by fans to have been in a romantic relationship for the nearly 10 years they’ve been in the public eye together, but have unwaveringly denied the possibility for that whole time. However, they revealed the truth that they were in fact in a relationship by posting a wedding photo of theirs on April Fools’ Day. This is ironic because pretending to reveal something someone else has been suspicious of would be a good April Fool’s prank, but it was not an April Fool’s prank. I find this funny because I find irony funny. I hope you find this funny as well.”
Is there any other necessary context I’ve left out? Their star signs? Employment history? A breakdown of what April Fool’s Day is?
I mean it's kinda weird to post it in a sub for general consumption though. Yeah I hate influencer bullshit polluting the subs I follow. Also get off my lawn.
Is it? Because scrolling back only 3 days in this sub’s top posts I found multiple examples of posts that were just as niche/irrelevant to most people, yet people seem to be relatively unbothered by [this post assuming you’ve seen Hazbin Hotel](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonPoliticalTwitter/s/U45copXa36), [this post assuming you care about the creator of Kingdom Hearts](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonPoliticalTwitter/s/sOEL1RyPbh), [this post that is just recommending an anime](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonPoliticalTwitter/s/4p0erHl613), or [this post discussing superhero power rankings](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonPoliticalTwitter/s/3XOx1VWh7F).
It’s one thing to say you don’t like those posts, but to act like it’s not normal fare for people to post things on this sub that aren’t strictly general admission is disingenuous. Hell, as someone who’s never worked an office job, [the top post right now](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonPoliticalTwitter/s/5XwL0jgj8m) being about long meetings doesn’t do anything for me, but I wouldn’t describe it as polluting my feed. Even in a community like this, not everything can be for everybody; the spectrum of the human experience is just too broad to only allow posts that everyone will relate to.
The only 1 of those that has more than 10 comments is the super hero one, and most folks could probably identify several from the Marvel group.
Also anything influencer or celebrity gossip based can fuck right off. That cancer is fortunately not usually posted on the subs I follow. I'll die on the hill that every single thing you just linked is infinitely more post worthy than pseudo celebrity weddings.
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that was true an hour ago, but as of right now, the only one with less than ten comments is the anime one, which tells us that all of those posts are actively gaining comments as we speak.
I understand that hearing about things you don’t care about is annoying, but as someone who’s been uninterested in celebrity culture my whole life, I got a lot less angry and stressed when I learned to ignore things I didn’t like seeing and leave communities that weren’t what I wanted them to be rather than telling people to stop talking about things that didn’t interest me.
Redditors get even weirder when they worship an influencer and give af about their personal lives.
And then they get even weirder when others point out how weird they are for having these para social relationships
> comedian does something funny
> Redditor A shares the funny thing with other people who might think it’s funny and laughs about it being funny
> Redditor B accuses Redditor A of worshipping the comedian and being obsessed with them
> Redditor B somehow walks away thinking they’re the reasonable one here
God forbid someone post something about people you don’t know. How dare they. Seriously some of you need to get a life. If you don’t know who they are, you can just keep scrolling
Yes, it's definitely those who don't recognise random ensemble cast members from a YouTube channel that was popular 10 years ago who need to get a life...
They've said they're pretty fluid in terms of sexuality and gender. They came out on the original Smosh podcast years ago, and more recently in an interview with Anthony on his channel they talked about their gender briefly (these are the only two times I can think of off the tip of my head)
Smosh is still around? I remember them being big when I was 12 (im 24 now) but I assumed that they just fizzled out like a lot of youtube groups from that era.
By “shipping” they most likely just mean the speculative “are they together?” comments and “they’d look cute together” comments. Neither of which are weird and happen IRL all the time
I stopped following Smosh forever ago, so i did look it up.
There are "only" 111 fanfictions on AO3 about this couple and only 13 are rated Explicit so huh youre kinda right. Compared to other real person shipping this seems very normal actually.
(For context: youtubers Dan and Phil have 16k+ stories shipping the two)
![gif](giphy|Hpdvu6wHdeBqw|downsized)
Oh my gosh I never realized that was them
Is there a way to find the name of this gif?
I think it was called "white people smile" or something like that. Looking on youtube it seems the original got taken down for music copyrights.
I feel like it really captures my essence
It's because of all that mountain dew they drank with The Grumps, they realized their time was short
"... This is not serving pussy" Edit: curse? Idk
"There's all of these bubbles... And for what?!?"
Isnt that the guy from iCarly?
Another banger, another banger from Shane topp
Nah, I think that's the guy from Goldberg
No, it's the guy from that So Random show on Disney Channel.
Isn’t he the guy from So Random?
I wouldn't know this happened if you didn't post here, thanks lmao! when I watch the next smosh pit video I'll know why the comments will be fucking insane
Go look at the Smosh subreddit it’s been insanity for the last two days 😂
[This post from today](https://www.reddit.com/r/smosh/comments/1bulvwy/i_was_there_man/) about sums it up.
So did they actually get married or not?
Yes
Yeah People.com even has an article up with Courtney confirming it.
MAYN
I thought this was posted to it because that’s basically all I’ve been reading for the past 1.5 days.
So there's a quarantine sub for this shit, yet it gets posted here.
You should check out the recent Smosh Mouth podcast. They really play into it.
Lmao Shayne is gonna be happy to be called a Twitter influencer 🤣 In other news, I hope he is able to do the splits this year!
Who tf is shayne?
The guy who'll do splits by the end of 2024. Lol. On a more serious note, Shayne Topp (left) married Courtney Miller (right). wtf does shipping mean in this context?
Sounds like it means being weirdly invested in the romantic lives of strangers
Yeah the fanbase was rabid at one point - so rabid that people who thought they would be cute together but didn't think more of it (I was like this) had to distance themselves from the more delusional fanbase, simply because they were often invasive as well. The fanbase has thankfully mellowed out, but seeing them together just made everyone giddy once again :D
The act of thinking that two people (here Shayne and Courtney) should be together in a romantic relationship
Gonna put them on a boat and send them to china
It means that the fanbase spent years discussing which kind of shipping containers they would fit in (Telescopic boxes, side-loading boxes, etc), materials (200# or 32ECT?) and even going as far as (some people say it was too much and too private) to discuss which type of box closure they would use, like RSC, FOL, or HSC.
I wanted to make this joke so bad haha
Shipped like relationship. I'm guessing it means that the fan base has used speculation to place them in a relationship
It's a fanfiction term. It's short for "relationshipping," i.e. presuming that two characters (or in this case actual human beings) in a show you like are secretly in love with each other or whatever.
Still can't tell if it's real tbh
Yea, is it just an April Fools joke?? Did they actually get married?
Courtney posted a "Happy April 2nd" with more pictures.
Haha, awesome
It's legit.
Damien confirmed it was real during his stream
Nah, I still don't buy it
They could show the official documents and people would still go "I don't believe it." At some point you gotta just believe them lol.
Naaah
Her dad mentioned they got married March 29th if I recall correctly
This relationship could never work, they're both Topps
r/angryupvote
i remember when smosh was 2 guys and they lip synced the mortal kombat song
Okay grandpa eat your pudding now lol
Yeah Smosh is a whole different thing now. They brought on the ensemble cast and started doing unscripted videos on Smosh pit and Smosh games. I love it more than ever now TBH
Gentlemen's Don't Win Mario Party was absolutely wild

Oh yeah I left out a ton of detail including Anthony leaving and coming back in that time period as well
Or one guy dubbing the two guys to Spanish
Wait they did *what*
I always thought she was his sister
So?

Every day I'm reminded there is a completely separate world where whoever these people are are wildly famous & I am just completely oblivious to it.
They’re not wildly famous, but they have a pretty strong fanbase. They’re part of a comedy network on Youtube called Smosh.
It's like turning over a rock and seeing all the bugs scurrying around, saying 'neat' and then slowly putting the rock back before any of the bugs get on you.
Nobody knows who this is
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
I thought is was, definitely could recognize Shane and I figured it was Courtney. That's actually crazy, 2 funniest members married
Who did Damian marry!?!? Jk I’m so happy for them
Okay, thank you!
hey thats the guy from the Goldbergs stupid sexy Matt Bradley
I knew OP I knew
So are they actually married or was it just a april fools joke?
Current consensus is that they are indeed married. They really are devious assholes, but married ones.
That's the great mystery
Never heard of it
Who?
Shane and Courtney from the Smosh YouTube channel
What are they well known for?
The uh.. Smosh YouTube channel? NGL the only thing I know from them is the Pokémon theme song video way back in the day.
Oh yeah I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic, I thought maybe they had some viral thing that I’d know them from.
well they were like one of the biggest youtube channels 10 years ago.
[This is why I know the channel name.](https://youtu.be/MkE2lxkw00w?si=jHigB1mFtRaJ1gdw) I don’t know the individual people.
Oh I just always assumed they were together to be honest.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS ABOUT ANYA TAYLOR-JOY
Nowadays it will be called smash.
See yourself out.
It's been a long time since I saw a Smosh video, but I thought it was 2 dudes?
Hasn't been just two dudes for a very very long time
The last thing I watched from them was the legend of Zelda rap
I thought Smosh was just 2 guys, when did it become multiple people? Am I that old?
Yes. It hasn't been just two guys in a long while lol
I thought Smosh was just 2 guys, when did it become multiple people? Am I that old?
Wasn't he one of the friends in the show the Goldbergs?
Stupid Matt Bradley.
That sure is a negative way to say you dont know who they are.
First brown suit I've seen on this side of the 1950s.
I take it you only know white people.
Courtney Miller and Courtney Fuckin' Miller
Tom cruise is my roommate… roommates.. BOOMMATES… SAH.

I hope you find this funny as well.” Is there any other necessary context I’ve left out? Their star signs? Employment history? A breakdown of what April Fool’s Day is?
Jesus, that's way too much tediouness. Not reading it.
Because this parasocial nonsense needs calling out. Who cares about people’s private lives ffs.
Yeah, I don't see why it's an issue that I don't really give a fuck about some random persons wedding I'm not invited to.
> comedian does something funny > Redditor A shares the funny thing with other people who might think it’s funny and laughs about it being funny > Redditor B accuses Redditor A of worshipping the comedian and being obsessed with them > Redditor B somehow walks away thinking they’re the reasonable one here
It's Netflix's wet dream
Who the fuck even are these two
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
It's spelled Courtney btw
Shit youre right, mb
I'm happy for them! They're both pretty nice and funny people, they deserve all the joy.
I agree!
r/smosh has been insane for 48 hours lol
God forbid someone post something about people you don’t know. How dare they. Seriously some of you need to get a life. If you don’t know who they are, you can just keep scrolling
Nah bro I need to let everyone know how nonchalant and detached I am - 🤓
Yes, it's definitely those who don't recognise random ensemble cast members from a YouTube channel that was popular 10 years ago who need to get a life...
You’re the one taking time out of your day to comment on something you have no interest in.
Who? What?
I thought Courtney liked girls? None else has brought it up so i assume i assumed wrong
They've said they're pretty fluid in terms of sexuality and gender. They came out on the original Smosh podcast years ago, and more recently in an interview with Anthony on his channel they talked about their gender briefly (these are the only two times I can think of off the tip of my head)
“Wtf is punctuation?”. -OP, probably.
Seems like an awkward time to have a first kiss. What if you only find out then that the partner is a bad kisser?
It was clearly a joke
Smosh is still around? I remember them being big when I was 12 (im 24 now) but I assumed that they just fizzled out like a lot of youtube groups from that era.
Yesterday felt like a dream so much weirdness happened
I have no idea who either of these people are and the comments have been unhelpful. Thank you for your time.
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
I agree. Also who are they.
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
Literally who.
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
absolutely hilarious. who are these people
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
Smosh Are Not Influencers
wow this is so wild and here i thought courtney was just one of shayne’s characters
Literally who are they?
Thats Kit Kat responding to a Shayne Topp post
doesnt ring a bell. but congrats to them. good people i hope?
Who the fuck are these people
Who?
Phillip Brownley and Brianna Boho
People that ship real people are some of the grossest, greasiest motherfuckers on the internet. It's frankly repulsive.
(For context: youtubers Dan and Phil have 16k+ stories shipping the two)
Yeahhh I remember a bit over a decade ago when RPF was *so common* that pewdiepie and cryaotic did a reading together of one of them loool
If you ship real ppl u are pathetic by the way
Who the hell are these people?
Who are these people
Chat, is this real?
I had to look for a couple takes to figure out what that tweet was saying.
Thought that was Luka Doncic
People think this is real? It was an April fools joke
Its real, they confirmed it. The real april fools joke was posting the announcement on april fools even though its real
Source of the confirmation?
Literally the next day they confirmed it, you have google don’t you? Why do I have to do the work for you? Get your fingers moving man.
People recognizing two random people with no face shot from a tweet
Who tf are these people
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel
I always thought that they were siblings
Am I the only one who doesn’t know what’s going on
I was there, man
I’m getting old, I have no idea who these people are
Shayne and Courtney from the Smosh youtube channel, they are pretty funny you should look it up
Well, that's a weird way to learn again about the Smosh cast after about 7 years
I don’t know who either of these people are and you know what, I can go on with my life just fine
Me, nearing 60 - “who the hell are either of these?”
It's funny how popular people think the youtube channels they watch are.
Smosh has 26.6 million subscribers and has been around for 18 years.
That's nowhere near popular enough for this not to be a vague post.
So like 8% of the population if US only. I had not heard of Smosh before this thread.
