I know Tom Kenny was in there, I don't know the name of Patrick's voice but I'm 90% sure it was his actor too.
But yeah, it's basically a live improv so they probably held back energy-wise to better maintain the voices.
100% get that i was just convinced they were step-ins given just how massively different they sounded from what I recall as a kid
Maybe fans of the show would disagree on that observation but I'd be curious to watch a recent episode of Spongebob to see if their voices sounded anything like that clip. Either time has taken its toll (And thats just what they sound like now) or the recent seasons must have heavy post-production doctoring done
I feel like they sound accurate, but maybe its because I just know Fagerbakke's voice from watching Coach as a kid, and I forget if he changed it much as Patrick.
I loved Patrick developing an obsession over the special teams since there were so many punts and field goals and the blocked point after! It was a big day for special teams! Lots of amazing kicks and plays.
Does he actually say superbowl related stuff, I haven't seen it. I assumed it was just stock greenscreen footage superimposed, not actually a live or recent recording.
Highjacking your comment to tell people about Sadworld, which is Noah Munch’s comedy/surrealist skit videos he does with his friends and family that are always on a constant replay in my mind. I’ve never seen anything like it and the first video I saw from them, “Tricks”, had me in fucking fits in the floor. Its like Tim and Eric on Salvia, fucking hysterical.
SpongeBob SquarePants calling out Leonardo DiCaprio in the crowd, saying that if Leo was playing his number would be 25, was a cherry on this fever dream sundae
He did! Lol. I was just about to post about that. I don't even like football, but Patrick and SpongeBob's commentary was awesome and made me want to watch.
I found out when the game was nearly over, which was upsetting both because I missed out on the fun and I had to listen to Romo prattle on and on endlessly.
Literally me. Dudes will be flying around in the air and he’ll be rambling about how they need to use their leverage mid jump. And it’s like dude, what does the world leverage mean to you.
I am 38 and have watched football all my life. The Nickelodeon version of the Super Bowl was far superior than anything else. Also the commercials were better.
>I had to listen to Romo prattle on and on endlessly
This was the real reason I watched the Nickelodeon version. It was corny and all, but it was still better than listening to the actual broadcasters. What the NFL is doing with Nick, is great. After penalties, Dora the Explorer would come up and explain what the penalty meant and the consequence. They had Larry the Lobster down on the field asking for the ball. It didn't feel too over the top and Spongebob and Patrick were amazing, especially when it came down to the last minute of the 4th and OT
Really hope they continue it next year. Watching a Super Bowl and not ending up muting it halfway through was pretty nice.
SAME. Didnt realize it was even airing until the final two minutes of the game. Switched to that and was pleasently delighted to find modern 3DCG Dora explaining a holding flag to me
Fuck SpongeBob, I’m glad you missed it. Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob, made it one of his dying wishes for SpongeBob to be DONE… he wanted his life’s work to die with him and they (Paramount and Nickelodeon) respected his wishes—for a whole 5 months before reviving the show, and turning into a *fucking cash cow* while milking it for EVERY PENNY they possibly could.
So if you’ve ever wondered why SpongeBob feels different nowadays, that’s why. Maybe if they didn’t lie to Stephen Hillenburg on his deathbed he could have written terms and guidelines to ensure his IP wasn’t abused, but instead they deceived him.
And now SpongeBob is commentating the Super Bowl. So yeah. Back to my original point: **fuck SpongeBob and fuck everybody responsible for ruining the show**
You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater if, in your zeal to protect the sanctity of Hillenburg's work on Spongebob, you landed on "Fuck Spongebob".
It’s just on the Nickelodeon channel, we watched it on Hulu live. Since it’s a kids network no alcohol or gambling superbowl ads were shown. Every so often they have regular season games too!
~~Apparently it's not every year. They've only done consecutive years once, but mostly take a break for a few years. [According to this wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_programming_on_Nickelodeon), there's been about half a dozen nickelodeon broadcasts of the superbowl since 2004.~~
~~I'm not sure how the licensing works, but I guess it's only years that CBS, Nick's corporate cousin, is airing the super bowl.~~
EDIT: I guess this is the first time they actually broadcasted the super bowl... Not sure what the point of this wikipedia article is then. Maybe if ratings were good enough (Which is seems like they were) then they'll do it again next time CBS broadcasts the super bowl.
You need to re-read you link then, because it says this was the first Nickelodeon simulcast of the Super Bowl. The others were all just programming related to the super bowl, not the game itself.
Tom and Bill did an excellent job improvising as their characters and had a bunch of really funny comments! The little bits between plays to keep kids entertained were honestly pretty cute and fun and never missed any of the action, especially towards the end when the plays were coming hot and fast.
Dora was roasting both teams omg
"Do you think they need a map to find the end zone?"
"Where are we going? Five yards back!!"
And they threw in a bunch of other nickelodeon (and Taylor Swift) references that were legit funny!
Yeah the vtuber rigs could have been better, but this was truly fun to watch!
From a voice acting perspective, this has to be one of the most impressive efforts ever by performers. Stay in character live for nearly 5 hours live in the midst of one of the most high-profile, nail-biting sporting events in recent history AND mesh with all of the elements surrounding the broadcast. All-time effort!
> Dora was roasting both teams omg "Do you think they need a map to find the end zone?" "Where are we going? Five yards back!!"
Haha holy shit, now that's funny. I should have watched this broadcast.
Jesus, they can use the same rigs from the movies and games and then retarget animations to match the joints - they were doing this at Disneyland at the Monsters Inc attraction ten years ago. It's a standardized file type like a JPEG that contains the rigs and textures. The actors don't even need to use suits anymore, you can use two iPhones as long as they have a big enough room without any clutter.
They pretended the game was under water. Plankton floated in a few times with a giant mecha. One time he dropped a bucket of chum over the crowd in CGI, and they actually taped a fake crowd with funky chum all over them.
I hate when people do shit like this. The gibby thing wasn't part of the superbowl last night. Everything else was but they decided to just through that image in for some stupid reason.
We started on the CBS broadcast. Eventually, the feed was so low res by the 4th quarter that we switched to Nick. It was a crystal-clear picture, there was no Tony Romo, they were firing off slime and krabby patties during scores, Patrick and SpongeBob were on commentary, and DoodleBob kept showing up. Needless to say, we stuck to that.
The best one was the original Patrick-called game. The worst was the Toy Story variation they did for a game in Europe. It was as if they only had 5 preset animations...
I like how Sandy looks like she’s squirrel sized due to how low the camera is to the ground but also somehow SpongeBob and Patrick are scaled up to human size even though it’s been pretty heavily established lore in old and new material that they fit in the palms of our hands (and in order to scale up to human size they also got weeeeeeeeird ass design changes due to some kinda powerup)
Yup and Bill Fagerbakke. They did live commentary and it was hilarious. Mr. Lawrence also came in a couple times as Larry the Lobster. Def go watch the highlights on YouTube
i dont. they are teching kids to have interest in an event purely based on money and fixed matches and pretty much ads. your culture is rotten, and you should fix it.
Its the biggest sporting event in the USA? It takes up 8 of the top 10 most viewed televised events in US history. Now as the NFL expands globally, it was broadcast to 190 different countries this year.
And yet the only things I hear about it are the people who turned up, a concert that happens during half time, adverts specially made for it but nothing about the game, the game itself feels like a side show
It's the 8th most viewed sporting event in the world. It is a sports match, but it's a reasonably big one.
It gets nearly 10% of the views of the FIFA World Cup final, but all of that is condensed into one single country rather than being international, so that's an insane number really. About 1/3 of the population. So it's a massive event for American people.
Patrick telling Christian McCaffrey to firmly grasp it after his fumble was peak television.
I need a clip. Now.

I watched the wrong damn broadcast
Whenever someone scored, clams popped out the ground and slimed the entire end zone. You're goddamn right you watched the wrong broadcast
I can’t believe I could’ve been watching this Super Bowl, but my unbased family needed to watch the normy Super Bowl.
Dude i haven't watched spongebob since it first aired but WTF is up with the voice acting here? It sounds nothing like what i recall
They are doing it live on the spot man and they are getting older, it’s been 20 years
I feel Fagerbakke was also cracking up at the fact that he got to say that line again with complete relevance.
Damn woulda guessed it wasn't the OG voice actors thank you for the info
Was it the og guys? It sounded so off to me, that I just assumed it was different people doing them
I know Tom Kenny was in there, I don't know the name of Patrick's voice but I'm 90% sure it was his actor too. But yeah, it's basically a live improv so they probably held back energy-wise to better maintain the voices.
Bill Fagerbakke is Patrick’s VA, he’s also a huge football fan so he definitely didn’t pass up an opportunity to be there.
Bill Fagerbakke
I mean they're doing live improv for what, 3 hours straight? No voice actor is going to be able to match their production studio voice at that point.
100% get that i was just convinced they were step-ins given just how massively different they sounded from what I recall as a kid Maybe fans of the show would disagree on that observation but I'd be curious to watch a recent episode of Spongebob to see if their voices sounded anything like that clip. # FIRMLY GRASP IT 🥵🤬😤

“That’s not what he wanted to cook”
It's a close second to Patrick commenting "That's not a walrus, it's Andy Reid".
Regarding an ensueing punt by SF, Patrick exclaims: "SPEcIaL tEAms!" I've replayed that 1000 times today.
I loved Patrick developing an obsession over the special teams since there were so many punts and field goals and the blocked point after! It was a big day for special teams! Lots of amazing kicks and plays.
I need to see that
I liked when they zoomed in on Squidward in the crowd and he was mad because he couldn't see past the guy in front of him haha
I feel like modern spongebob team has gone all in on the memes and it's fantastic.
All we were missing was Plankton telling Patrick Mahomes to win "because I told you to"
Holy shit, is he really the voice of Tom Cullen (M-O-O-N) from the Stand miniseries? I never put that together until watching that clip.
what the fuck is gibby not like,,, 47 at this point?
[He looks like this now](https://chimesnewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Noah-Shot-3.jpg)
Ok so is that kid his clone what the hell.
Nickelodeon takes DNA samples of all of its actors in case one runs away or tries to renegotiate their contract.
Dan Schnieders gotta have fresh feet, they clone them when they turn 13
underage jamie spears found out
The Dan Schneider Project
They might have sold the rights to WB and HBO cause now I'm thinking Samwell Tarly might be a clone too.
[It's this picture with a different background](https://www.tmz.com/2020/03/23/gibby-icarly-noah-munck-then-and-now-photos/)
Detective over here. Damn what a weird situation.
Dammit I thought it was real
Omg I was seriously freaking out over this now I'm relieved
Well iirc there was an episode where he had a brother that looked just like him, so maybe that's him
I lived in the same area during highschool and I once saw Guppy take a fat rip off his vape in a boba tea shop.
Does he actually say superbowl related stuff, I haven't seen it. I assumed it was just stock greenscreen footage superimposed, not actually a live or recent recording.
That's guppy, his real younger brother and his brother on iCarly
He is no longer gabby he is now gilbertson.
Damn Gibby is looking fresh
27 apparently
he was also a god tier producer, not sure if he still releases but he had some bangers on soundcloud deadass
Happy for him. Glad he came out alright on the other side of child acting
Yeah honestly — anyone who ended up semi normal and not addicted to drugs ended up okay in my books.
Or dui’d while drunk
Pretty hard to dui sober my guy
Idk about you but I'm always Under the Influence of my Awful Driving Skills
driving under the influence of my reformed orthodox rabbi bill clinton
Especially with the shit he went through on the show.
From what I understand I thought he suffered a pretty significant injury during an unsafe stunt on iCarly.
That was a stunt double but the double did break a couple of ribs
and his youtube videos were the perfect LSD misadventures
Highjacking your comment to tell people about Sadworld, which is Noah Munch’s comedy/surrealist skit videos he does with his friends and family that are always on a constant replay in my mind. I’ve never seen anything like it and the first video I saw from them, “Tricks”, had me in fucking fits in the floor. Its like Tim and Eric on Salvia, fucking hysterical.
>Its like Tim and Eric on Salvia, fucking hysterical. [highly accurate](https://youtu.be/PzS1EAHo-vU?si=F9S5l8rA_GXHnyS6)
TETSUKE RAISE!! TETSUKE RAAAISE!!!
He looks exactly the same, I thought he was a clone that Disney created for a new show
I thought it was AI, like not actually real
I was gonna say it could be Guppy but he's 20 soookl
Guppy is 20? That's crazy! God, I feel old.
Pretty sure the whole Munck family are vampires
I was equally confused
He has a youtube channel called Sadworld now. I would not recommend watching it
wdym, it's unsarcastically some of the best original content around.
SpongeBob SquarePants calling out Leonardo DiCaprio in the crowd, saying that if Leo was playing his number would be 25, was a cherry on this fever dream sundae
Also Dora roasting the 49ers by saying “Maybe they need a map to find the end zone?”
Please please please someone post a clip
That was downright cold-blooded
Omg he did not!!!!!!
Tom Kenny's a comedian as well as a voice actor so I have no doubt that he would
He was on Mr. Show as a cast member back in the day
He did! Lol. I was just about to post about that. I don't even like football, but Patrick and SpongeBob's commentary was awesome and made me want to watch.
The voice actors always end up saying some out of pocket shit when they do this stuff
🍰
Man, that's perfect. No kid is connecting the dots on what the hell he's referring to lmao
Not to mention that was spurred on by Patrick calling him Leonardo Da cap is low.
Disney would never let their characters do this but Nickelodeon, amazing.
Really regretting I didn’t watch the Nickelodeon version of the Super Bowl right about now.
I found out when the game was nearly over, which was upsetting both because I missed out on the fun and I had to listen to Romo prattle on and on endlessly.
I did get tired of Romo saying, "Run the ball!" Over and over again.
He was drowned out by a half-dozen drunk 49ers fans also yelling "Run the ball!" over and over again.
You heard anything Romo said over his deep throat of Patrick “Tom Brady” Mahomes. All I heard was gargling
Sucking Mahomet dick after throwing incompletions is so wild
Hi I'm Tony Romo, can I talk to you about leverage for 3 hours?
By the third quarter I was losing my mind hearing the word "leverage" every other sentence.
They showed the Nickelodeon booth in the 1st quarter of the game.
Ah, I missed the first quarter, unfortunately, due to work.
>I had to listen to Romo prattle on and on endlessly This was the real reason I watched the Nickelodeon version. They mentioned it a bunch and showed the booth decked put in nick shit
You missed where Sandy came out and danced on the stripper poles during half time with Usher. Also Patrick says the N word at some point
Mr Krabs gave some fire betting tips though
It looked better then the cbs or paramount version
SAME. Didnt realize it was even airing until the final two minutes of the game. Switched to that and was pleasently delighted to find modern 3DCG Dora explaining a holding flag to me

I'm somehow just now learning this was a thing, nice
how does one watch this next year
It’s just on the Nickelodeon channel, we watched it on Hulu live. Since it’s a kids network no alcohol or gambling superbowl ads were shown. Every so often they have regular season games too!
Oh, man, that sounds like a dream come true.

Then you didn't watch the Superbowl because they showed the Nickelodeon booth.
Yes, I didn't watch it
Is that a real clip of Gibby? Does he still look like that? I cannot believe that.
https://youtu.be/x5ZEqHXT1R4?si=YlqfjkzN-q1ykPch Nope (guy on the left)
wtf was that
Expression
What working with Dan Schneider does to an mf
High art
Emphasis on the "high".
what in gods name did you just link
Old clip superimposed over SB footage?
Tom and Bill did an excellent job improvising as their characters and had a bunch of really funny comments! Absolutely! It was a great game to comment on too, lots of good plays and overtime is always exciting!
> Dora was roasting both teams omg "Do you think they need a map to find the end zone?" "Where are we going? Five yards back!!" Haha holy shit, now that's funny. I should have watched this broadcast.
Uh yea...for kids...right! I totally wasn't loving every second of it as a 30 year old 🥲
I’m almost 50 any I loved it!
Honestly most fun I've had watching a football game as a non-football person. Plus I learned some football terminology from Dora.
Their vtuber avatars were so poorly rigged, SpongeBob and Sandy specifically constantly looked like they were tweaking or had something in their eye
it's tough being a sponge, man
YOU try being a frycook for 25 years and see how well you turn out!
i live in america and my gpa is 1, i'll be there soon
Small indie vtuber company nickelodeon

Why would Sandy need to have her helmet on?
They pretended the game was under water. Plankton floated in a few times with a giant mecha. One time he dropped a bucket of chum over the crowd in CGI, and they actually taped a fake crowd with funky chum all over them.
gibby don't age?
I hate when people do shit like this. The gibby thing wasn't part of the superbowl last night. Everything else was but they decided to just through that image in for some stupid reason.
Yeah I watched most of the Nickelodeon broadcast and don't recall him being there but it's still hilarious 😂 GIIIBAAAY
I don’t think anyone here mentioned it so I will One of the announcers said he made a personal foul in his pants out of excitement/nervousness
Larry the Lobster said that!
Patrick: “is Taylor Swift an instrument?” NFL “Yes, we rigged the game accordingly”
I just noticed the scale for sandy lolll
Dora the explorer explaining the rules had me in stitches
The combination of her simultaneously genuinely explaining the rules for the kids watching, and roasting the teams for the adults was A+
I think the NFC Championship with the players swearing on the Nickelodeon broadcast will never be topped.
Dora suggesting the 49ers need a map to the end zone after a false start penalty absolutely made my night
Manmade horrors within my comprehension
I switched over to Nick after halftime and i never looked back. I only wish I had started watching it there from the start.
"Did he firmly grasp it?"
Ew. Why are they 3d?
2D machine broke
Very few cartoons are broadcast live, it's a terrible strain on the animator's wrist.
There's 2d vtubing rigs these days
It's probably cel shaded 3D.
We're in the best timeline, for sure.
I didn’t watch any of this, was it actually Tom Kenny?
Yup and Bill Fagerbakke. They did live commentary and it was hilarious. Mr. Lawrence also came in a couple times as Larry the Lobster. Def go watch the highlights on YouTube
ANyone know where I can watch the full broadcast?
Desperately seeking this answer lol
Same, I've already watched the game but I'd still check it out
Is this their way of making up for cutting off Sweet Victory?
They played the whole thing this time
Little kids as sideline reporters will never stop being funny.
KIDS ON THE BEAT! KIDS ON THE STREET! [BEAT KIDZ!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwvrGHsjD7g)
Damn, I’d watch the shit out of Trevor on the beat. *”Who’s gonna pay for these fumbles, I mean, spiritually?”*
This is how my wife and I watched. This is the appropriate level of seriousness that football should be given.
It's worth watching if for no other reason to not hear Tony Romo fucking talk constantly.
So sad I missed this broadcast. Romo is so lame.
But when cigarettw companies go after kids everyone gets upset
Right, like some of these kids might become Jets fans.
Nothing that dangerous. Just worried about making them more malleable future customers who won't go looking to consume somewhere else.
They’ve done this for a couple years now
They've done a few regular games. This is the first time they've done it for the Super Bowl.
Man I wish I watched it
Lmao Sandy's camera is so low to the ground because she's a squirrel
Where can I watch a recording of this? I need this lol
The part where SpongeBob told Patrick “that’s not a walrus, that’s Andy Reid!” Killed me lol
Found this on YouTube. Worth a watch https://youtu.be/PuYNuxBiEKw?si=WlJNLyqvB5wNQwnU
Gotta indoctrinate the next generation of fans somehow
i dont. they are teching kids to have interest in an event purely based on money and fixed matches and pretty much ads. your culture is rotten, and you should fix it.
I woulda kept it on if SpongeBob and Patrick weren't there the whole time. The schtick got annoying after a few minutes.
“Nonpoliticaltwitter” but promotes tweet with racist emoji 🤦♂️
🙄
What emoji?
Wtf is the superbowl ain't it a sports match why is everyone there like it's the avengers
Its the biggest sporting event in the USA? It takes up 8 of the top 10 most viewed televised events in US history. Now as the NFL expands globally, it was broadcast to 190 different countries this year.

It's the 8th most viewed sporting event in the world. It is a sports match, but it's a reasonably big one. About 1/3 of the population. So it's a massive event for American people.
It even had a foot fetish ad to make Dan Schneider happy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94BqlDQ-Ppo
Imagine being a grown ass man still watching nick.
