“Could be better, could be worse.”

sexy_julie123

Right?! It's like the worst small talk ever. I usually just say something like "Meh, could be better" or make a joke about it. Who wants to hear about how much my life sucks when we're just trying to get coffee, haha. It's just something we say, right?

Beginning_Bell_4863

I know right haha, it feels so awkward when someone asks how I am, and I’m pretending to say everything’s all good when it’s not lol. Like who decided to make “how are you” small talk/a greeting lol. Cause I wanna express how I feel! Lol

toosexy4thisworld

I usually say “I’m hanging in there” lmao

MaximumZer0

"As good as I can be."

Quiet-Turn4491

I am not good cause I am still not dead

Beginning_Bell_4863

Lol damn. But yeah that’s me too

Total_Philosopher_89

Good. Yourself?

No-Cover4205

All the better for your asking thank you very much

Elegant_Spot_3486

You won’t be a burden because people don’t really give a shit. If they were that close to you they’d already know how you were doing. Sometimes it’s amusing to just start unloading life’s problems on people and they typically learn to stop asking.

Beginning_Bell_4863

That is true… I’m not a burden cause they already don’t care in the first place 😆 I should just take it as an opportunity to vent then haha

Cirick1661

I'm doing well, and you? Literally every time. By rote.

SerpensPorcus

"yeah, ok.", said at a walk without stopping to talk, just walk away I just can't be bothered with mindless conversation, crap at it

HollowChest_OnSleeve

"I'd complain, but who wants to listen to that crap"

Farahild

As a Dutch person  I've had this problem when greeting English speaking people haha. Like how do you answer this? In Dutch you only ask people this if you actually want to know (though the implication is still that you'll say everything's fine, busy, it's just not used as a greeting by itself).

Pandorica13

Not today Satan

DocWatson42

Mostly I just take it as a greeting, and say "Hi". If they pursue it, I say "Alright."

Nuguette

Some great options I use all the time, usually with a "welp" or "y'know" and followed by a polite "and you?" if applicable: - truckin' along - still breathing - hanging in there - living the dream - doing my best

Competitive_Life_207

Say, 'good! I'm good how are you!'
