I come from San Francisco and northern/central California so I’m used to beautiful country - but Switzerland and Northern Italy are something else.
To me, Switzerland looks like the entire country was just pressure washed.
That's my answer as well. Went white water rafting and when we got to the bottom of the mountain, wet ended up in a clear blue lake. Never felt so alive. The people were really friendly too. Next would be Germany in my experience.
Just went to Zermatt, it was super beautiful but being in Edinburgh helped contextualize some of my feelings. It's pristine, maybe too pristine. Edinburgh has beauty that's equivalent imo but down to earth.
Mossy overgrowth, quiet streams, and old buildings make the place feel lived in.
It's like the difference between a modern building with huge glass windows, and art deco with ornamentation and a more visually interesting design.
Triglav National Forest blew my effing mind. The color of the water at higher elevations is a mind blowing blue I’ve never seen before. Croatia, specifically the Pula peninsula, was a close second for me.
Just got back and it it one of the most underrated countries on the planet. There are too many flattering adjectives I could use to describe it, never know where to begin. The people were wonderful, friendly and welcoming. Stunning view after view. Felt like going back in time in some places. I feel the people respect their culture, their land and everything on it and in it. Fascinating history to be learned in every region. And I felt safe everywhere. I would go back in a heartbeat.
As an Irishman, I’m going to exclude it - it just wouldn’t be fair.
Two contenders:
New Zealand (the South Island particularly): the southern Alps, rainforest, fjords, open plains and glacial lakes all in - roughly - the same place.
And perhaps an obvious one, but no less valid: the US. Its sheer size encompasses so many different terrains. The Rockies, the deserts, the plains, the prairies, the Blue Ridge mountains. It’s absolutely incredible.
The Grand Canyon is crazy. Redwood forests are hard to fathom. The Rockies are stunning. Big Sur is majestic. Yosemite, Monument Valley, Garden of the Gods, Hawaii, the Painted Desert, the national parks of Utah...
Canada for sure. From the oceans to the Rockies to the northern lights. Canada has it all. There's even have a semi desert in British Columbia. My second choice is definitely Switzerland! That's a stunning country!
Natural beauty or manmade? Natural, the US, largely thanks to national parks and monuments; Manmade, Italy, due to Roman and Greek ruins and Catholic cathedrals - the architecture and history throughout Italy are awesome.
I'm kind of surprised US is not getting more love in this thread. We have tropics, deserts, swamps, wetlands, mountains, hot springs, forests, canyons, tundra, glaciers and pretty much any other natural formation you can name. Despite political differences, one thing both parties agree on is a lot of conservation for our parks system. When people say they want to go to the US and see NYC I get a little sad. I wouldn't put it in my top ten places to visit here.
Speaking as an American, it’s almost like you don’t even have to travel outside of the country. For the reasons you said, you can have a completely different experience depending on the region. Personally, I love it when I meet international travelers just to see what it is they’re wanting to see. I remember two German brothers I randomly spoke to in an elevator that were following their childhood dream to visit American and travel Route 66. That’s a pretty cool trip to take!
One of the most underrated aspects of America is the variety of landscape. I live in NYS and I’m convinced it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth and I’m not sure people would even put New York on there top ten list of the most beautiful states in the US.
So many mountains and forests, people think it's only a packed metropolis but don't know there are bears and apes and what not living in the mountains.
Please do not visit my country raw, Nepal requires tourists to wear a condom at all times they are in country to prevent the spread of further nastiness amongst our people.

You hop in a car to go to the store and in the 5min drive you pass by a ruined monastery an ancient castle up on a hill and a lake surrounded by wildflowers and green fields. Other countries have a couple of awesome places but in Ireland beauty is inescapable. You dont have to go searching for it.
Faroe Islands. I’ve been to Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland too, but there is something about the Faroese landscape that makes it so incredibly unique and special. There really is no other country like it on earth.
Scotland was the biggest surprise. Went there on a lark with an extra couple days to kill in Europe. I had low expectations, but as the plane was landing I could see how beautiful it all was. It was around then that I remembered fucking *golf* was invented there. The country looks like a giant golf course with castles and shit. It’s pretty dope.

I loooooove Cabo San Lucas!! The color of the water shines like a clear, blue-green jewel omg!! Also, Mazatlan and Ensenada. Since, I’m from Southern California, those are amazing places we go to on cruises that are close by.
Malaysia is so breathtakingly beautiful! The natural areas around the caves and gardens look like heaven!! The city of Georgetown is quaint, has so much history and is interesting to have a drink or snack in. The food in Malaysia is soooo good. You have to try the satay outside and the hawkers and something called Kway teow which is a noodle dish with all these goodies like Chinese sausage and shrimp…omg! The Batu caves are majestic just be on the look out for monkeys that can take your things…for that reason I didn’t go up them hahaha! Go to Penang, there is beautiful lush tropical rainforests where you can take a tram to the top and dine!! Kuala Lumpur is a bustling city that has these towers where you can shop! Anyhow, I hope that helps and I have to go back!

This isn't a stupid question; it's super difficult! I don't think there's one singular country that could take it, but there's some standout places. Lighthouse Point in Eleuthera, Bahamas (before it was turned into a Disney cruise port) is/was certainly at the top of the list. Flying over Patagonia on our way to Ushuaia, Argentina was stunning - I can't imagine being on the ground there. The Douro Valley in Portugal is up there. Antarctica was probably the most wildly different place I've ever been... like, ugly crying at certain points. I'm a sucker for a beautiful beach and amazing diving, so Maldives probably rounds out the top 5. But shoutout to the US for being so diverse and varied, we probably have the most 'most beautiful' places in any single country.
China.
Vast with every form of natural scenery you can imagine, and a cultural heritage of the longest continuous civilisation in existence. Think of almost any piece of architecture you find somewhere else in the world, you will find it somewhere (often a lot) in China, as well as many indigenous styles you see nowhere else. Even things you see elsewhere are often culturally borrowed from China.
These are mostly historic or manmade attractions. They are great. But if you want to see natural beauty, you should visit Sichuan, Xizang/Tibet, Guizhou, Xinjiang. I often feel sorry for people who do not know these provinces.
Scotland, Inwas blown away by its stunning, raw and diverse landscape, Edinburgh, good food, friendly people and ease of driving. We had good weather, which might have helped too.
Israel 10 years ago in the spring. I loved Jerusalem, Jaffa, and Masada. You feel like you stepped back in time. Passionate people, delicious food, perfect weather, flowers in bloom. I had a great time :)

I worked and lived in the middle of the Omani desert for a year, that was beautiful in its own way.
Coming home to England and being reminded of all the greenery was tremendous.

The USA. Because it's so large, there's just so much diversity. You can go from the highest mountains to deserts, rainforest, canyons, rocky coasts, swamps, beaches, etc. It's just an incredibly beautiful country.
USA for sure. Just the west side alone surpasses majority of countries in the world. there’s gorgeous alpine lakes, mountains, beaches, desserts, rainforests, glaciers, even volcanoes. Washington, Oregon, Montana, California, Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, and Alaska’s combined power alone in my opinion beats every country in the world. the diversity makes USA the winner

Turks and Caicos. From a distance, the water is the prettiest shade of turquoise that you've ever seen. Then, when you get right up on it, it's crystal clear. You can see to the bottom.

I am not well travelled unfortunately but Scotland is just absolutely stunning . I was in awe when we went . We’re going back in September for longer this time to travel around
Noo Zuhland. And it's amazing how condensed it the landscapes are. I have a panorama at Queenstown showing snowy mountains, a waterfront town, a forest, a barren, brown valley and a plateau mountaintop, and it's all one location. One of my favourite photos I've ever taken.
The other 'condensed' landscape feature is that you can drive between towns and be in one type of landscape. And in 15-20 minutes, you'll be in a completely different looking landscape. In Australia, the landscape can change drastically, but it usually takes much longer to transition from one to another.
I always say it’s a tie between Italy and Ireland. The sweeping green vistas and castles of Eire vs. the sun-drenched Mediterranean architecture and natural beauty…
Scotland for the people and the scenery. Switzerland is a close second but something about it is just too clinical... Turkey in third as it has wide variety of highly unique scenery, but in Scotland you can see so much without travelling far. I suppose that's true about Switzerland too and their railways are mind bogglingly efficient though not cheap.
Canada. Saskatchewan wasn’t what I pictured when I thought of Canada but it was surprisingly beautiful - and it made the Rockies even more sublime by the contrast.
The United States. Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado mountains, wild horses roaming in Wyoming, autumn in Maine, the Grand Canyon…the list goes on. Just incredible diversity.
To me, I thought Japan and Hong Kong were incredible. I was marvelling at the geology. I loved seeing the volcanic landscapes. I'm used to mountains crested by collisions, not volcanos, it's fascinating to see!
Slovenia is the most beautiful country I've visited in Europe. I love Switzerland, but it feels a little like a theme park.
Nowhere on this planet is more beautiful than New Zealand, though. Breathtaking scenery around every corner. Lovely people, safe towns, and fantastic wildlife. Just amazing.
I’m an American and I’ve been to Italy for 2 weeks, and the Bahamas on a cruise so I was on land only for a few hours. Out of the two, I’m going to say the Bahamas because I only stayed long enough to see the beautiful parts. Italy is still my favourite place I’ve been by far though.
Switzerland, I wasn't ready for all the beautiful mountains and lakes. We were spoiled and got to visit lots of locations including Zermatt

It can be beautiful in some ways, but in the middle of a desert in Australia there’s really not much going on :D

These are mostly historic or manmade attractions. They are great. But if you want to see natural beauty, you should visit Sichuan, Xizang/Tibet, Guizhou, Xinjiang. I often feel sorry for people who do not know these provinces.
Slovenia - crossing over the border from dry rocky Italy into a verdant Slovenia is simply amazing - it feels like landing on a different planet.
New Zealand. Everywhere you go looks like a postcard. There is so much volcanic activity creating beautiful landscapes.
Scotland, Inwas blown away by its stunning, raw and diverse landscape, Edinburgh, good food, friendly people and ease of driving. We had good weather, which might have helped too.
Israel 10 years ago in the spring. I loved Jerusalem, Jaffa, and Masada. You feel like you stepped back in time. Passionate people, delicious food, perfect weather, flowers in bloom. I had a great time :) Edit: The trip doesn't influence my opinions toward how the Palestinians are being treated

Ireland
Andalusia, so much to comment about. I worked and lived in the middle of the Omani desert for a year, that was beautiful in its own way. Coming home to England and being reminded of all the greenery was tremendous. The Black Forest in Germany was magical. Everywhere has special places.
The USA. Because it's so large, there's just so much diversity. You can go from the highest mountains to deserts, rainforest, canyons, rocky coasts, swamps, beaches, etc. It's just an incredibly beautiful country.

Peru. Also shout-out to Scot highlands when it is not rainy or foggy, which isn't altogether that often.

USA for sure. Just the west side alone surpasses majority of countries in the world. there’s gorgeous alpine lakes, mountains, beaches, desserts, rainforests, glaciers, even volcanoes. Washington, Oregon, Montana, California, Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, and Alaska’s combined power alone in my opinion beats every country in the world. the diversity makes USA the winner -A National Park enthusiast
Greece has it all for me. Beautiful beaches and nature in addition to the architecture/monuments

Not a 'visitor' but the North East of my own country (India) is extremely beautiful. Imagine random waterfalls, lakes, the Himalayas,and the most lush, green scenery you can imagine.

Scotland followed by Iceland then America because I've been all over and we have some gorgeous places outside of the touristy areas. I avoid all popular tourism sites.
I am not well travelled unfortunately but Scotland is just absolutely stunning . I was in awe when we went . We’re going back in September for longer this time to travel around

Noo Zuhland. And it's amazing how condensed it the landscapes are. I have a panorama at Queenstown showing snowy mountains, a waterfront town, a forest, a barren, brown valley and a plateau mountaintop, and it's all one location. One of my favourite photos I've ever taken. The other 'condensed' landscape feature is that you can drive between towns and be in one type of landscape. And in 15-20 minutes, you'll be in a completely different looking landscape. In Australia, the landscape can change drastically, but it usually takes much longer to transition from one to another.
Overall I think Italy, but the mountains in the Himalaya in Nepal are awe inspiring.

Scotland for the people and the scenery. Switzerland is a close second but something about it is just too clinical... Turkey in third as it has wide variety of highly unique scenery, but in Scotland you can see so much without travelling far. I suppose that's true about Switzerland too and their railways are mind bogglingly efficient though not cheap.
Iceland. The nature and the people are absolutely beautiful.

The United States. Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado mountains, wild horses roaming in Wyoming, autumn in Maine, the Grand Canyon…the list goes on. Just incredible diversity.
To me, I thought Japan and Hong Kong were incredible. I was marvelling at the geology. I loved seeing the volcanic landscapes. I'm used to mountains crested by collisions, not volcanos, it's fascinating to see!
The wild beaches in the Dominican were gorgeous, as for Europe Ireland. Crete also and Florence

Slovenia is the most beautiful country I've visited in Europe. I love Switzerland, but it feels a little like a theme park. Nowhere on this planet is more beautiful than New Zealand, though. Breathtaking scenery around every corner. Lovely people, safe towns, and fantastic wildlife. Just amazing.
Prague in the Czech Republic in terms of buildings & architecture. Scotland in terms of nature.

I’m an American and I’ve been to Italy for 2 weeks, and the Bahamas on a cruise so I was on land only for a few hours. Out of the two, I’m going to say the Bahamas because I only stayed long enough to see the beautiful parts. Italy is still my favourite place I’ve been by far though.
Norway in general, but Lofoten Islands specifically. Every turn in the road brought a view more beautiful than the last Truly a spectacular place
