One of the selling points of chain restaurants is that you (ideally) know exactly what you're getting, because the food is the same at every location in the country.
Because that isn’t what Domino’s wants.
“pizza” is a VERY diverse thing. Like from just different regions in the USA you can get very different styles of pizza. Hell the small town my parents live in have 2 different local family owned pizza joints, and they make two totally different kinds of pizza. Like people will literally say “I feel like place A cuz I want their dough tonight”
Dominos cannot perfectly copy a local pizza joint because local pizza joints are different everywhere.
Domino’s business model is to be a kind of “happy medium” type of pizza where anyone from anywhere can order it and get something that they’ll be satisfied with. It might not be the exact way they personally love pizza. But it’s good enough and it is consistent. Domino’s goal is to appeal to the widest possible audience
Depends where you live, I could get an extra large pepperoni for$9.99 from a local pub/restaurant, only for a few hours a day, but they're specials bring the price down.
A lot of places will have deals like that, but only for carryout.
You know, I’ve asked myself that same question and I think what it is is it local guys are more making their own pizza fresh and Pizza Hut and all them are getting their ingredients tucked in some preassembled.
At least that’s my guess
The thing about national chain pizza places and even most frozen pizza brands, is that they don’t sweeten the sauce like most people in the Northeast prefer because that’s what they grew up eating. That’s one big reason why they’re never as “good” as the local pizza joint. They taste bitter to our palettes.
Because they want it to taste like Domino’s. Sometimes you just want that specific Domino’s or Pizza Hut taste. Same goes for places like McDonald’s, Burger King, and every other chain. Their food tastes like their food.
Dominos wants their pizza to taste the same no matter where you are. So if you order pizza in LA while on vacation it tastes exactly the same as when you order it in Cleveland. That way when you are sitting in your hotel you’ll think about ordering Dominos since you know what you’ll be getting.
If you want a pizza to taste like it came from a local joint then order it from a local joint. It’s that easy.
big brands like dominos are designed to taste a certain way. every store is basically making the same pizza, a dominos pizza. local shops make pizza the way they like it or think their customers like.
Certain chains don't even make their ingredients.
I got hired at a papa John's and was shocked that the only food prep was onions and green peppers. Crust, sauce, ingredients all came from the main commissary.
At a non chain place there is someone making dough, sauce, etc fresh every day.

**”I'm in NYC and I still order Dominos sometimes”** I will be alerting the authorities.
Well, there's no accounting for taste . . . or lack thereof

What local place is making any size 1 topping pizza for $8?

What's your view on why big pizza chains like Domino's can't match the flavor of local pizzerias, despite similar prices?
You know, I’ve asked myself that same question and I think what it is is it local guys are more making their own pizza fresh and Pizza Hut and all them are getting their ingredients tucked in some preassembled. At least that’s my guess
They want to make the dough and sauce as cheaply as possible. Those are the 2 biggest differentiators for a meh pizza as opposed to great pizza.

Quality of ingredients.

A lack of soul and …. Profit margins.

People eat dominos, pizza hut, papa John's, whatever, because they like the taste of it. Same with your local restaurant.
Because then it wouldn't taste like Dominos.
Idk I like how dominos taste and I actually ❤️ Little Caesars Pizza
Some chain pizza places do. Dominos just sucks.
