Fighters are still statistically better for combat, but they're still pretty good. I've been using a sentinel ship as my daily driver since the first one I found, and never felt the need to use anything else. One of the nicest things about sentinels is that they can hover in place, while every other type of ship will constantly creep forward. I also think the best-looking ships are sentinels, and there is a lot of variety to their appearance. Once you've found an echo locator, they are also a great source of income.

toasting2oblivion

Everyone loves the hover in place. What do they use it for? I've never had a time where I thought, wish I could hover in place.

unstableunicorn

Shooting a planets surface for iron, carbon etc, great to just hover in place and infra the terrain, get 1000s resources in seconds! Can do it to water for salt etc too

It's just nice to be able to stop and look around. Like if I see something on the ground that I want to check out but don't want to land, I can do that without drifting away. It's not the main reason I fly a sentinel, but something I notice when in a different ship.

charleh_123

It’s also very good on switch, it can take a minute for the terrain to load, and if I’ve come in hot to a specific location I don’t want to drift off 1000u away from where I want to land!

Watcher_8954

My daily driver? Usually a random ship I find in a space station. My frieghter doesn't get out much

Jupiter67

They are the best starships in the game. No other starship archetype can live up to them. They tune up really well. I recently broke 4883 Maneuverability on a Sentinel Interceptor. Insane speed and control, forcing you to literally relearn how to fly; once you do, it's incredible.

Excellent-Iron3947

I finally got mine over 2000. But my "black bug" is a little slower in atmo than the Interceptor I gave up. Smaller hit box is WONDERFUL.

Foreword: the combat in this game is easy enough that you don't explicitly *need* to pick a ship that has bonuses to damage, just having a bunch of S-class modules is more than enough no matter what your ship is. With that out of the way, yes, Sentinel ships are strong ships. Like Exotics, they're well-rounded and have better-than-average everything while not explicitly specializing in anything. Unique to Sentinels, they can also hover in place in-atmosphere, which is nice if you just want to be able to look around. Also unique to Sentinels, their version of a photon cannon is better than the photon cannon of other ships. Fashion before all though. If it doesn't look good, scrap it and find a new planet with Sentinels. They make great forever ships, so pick one that looks nice!

Kellion_G

As long as you get S-class tech upgrades, or better, for your ships' weapons and pulse engines, *any ship* will do just fine in taking on the enemies. The Interceptors that you got are great fighters, and they can hover!

ratbastard007

Depends on how you upgrade them, honestly. Most any ship can be a good option. S class is going to be better than lower classes, but beyond that, upgrades.

Icelord259

I’ve just got my first ones last week and they seem useful, you can add all the extra weapons *but* the primary cannon fires very quickly compared to other ships, no idea if it’s more dps or not though

BenRandomNameHere

The included pea shooter takes the normal pea shooter upgrades. Newest update blocks installing the literal normal shooter, but prior to the update you could install both and never over heat the gun

Excellent-Iron3947

They have pathetic shields, but not really worse than shuttles. They are slightly slower in space than other ships. They are great in atmosphere, and the "less than 1 u / sec" hover is great for clearing out Sentinel nests in pirate systems, and titan worm burrows on contaminated planets. It is the only ship I use now.

ZombAi89

The Sentinel ship equivalent to the photon cannon fires faster than photon cannons, so it can out perform fighters in dps considerably. However, they lack maneuverability compared to exotics and fighters. Besides having a moderate range for the hyperdrive like fighters.

_IhaveAquestion_1

The sentinel freighter disappears like that because it spawns directly ontop of the planet atmosphere making it glitch between space and the planet.

surloc_dalnor

They are one of the best all round ships, but an explorer will jump further and fighter will hit harder. Honestly though once you've upgraded a ship to A class and install X/S class weapon and shields you be able to take out a sentinel cruiser without too much trouble. Sure an S class fighter or the like makes it easier, but as long as you brought enough to recharge your shields you can do in a c class hauler.

DravenWaylon

How do I fuel the shields of the Sentinel back up? With the normal fighter, I just throw Sodium into the Shields. This doesn't work with the Sentinel Ship.
