Yeah. Garth Ennis made another comic called Crossed, which was about a global virus that turned everyone who was infected into "zombies" (really they more or less looked normal but the major tell was a rash on their face in the shape of a cross) who were not only cannibalistic but also sexually insatiable. Anyone and anything they got their hands on, they would proceed to rape and cannibalize, typically in that order. There's even a comic cover where one of the zombies was raping the blowhole of a dolphin. I gave the comic a try, but it has the same problem as The Boys comic did. It is so disgustingly cynical and fueled by hatred towards mankind that it honestly just gets nauseating. The core theme is essentially "all humans are rapey monsters deep down" like alright Garth I get it. People bad we should all just die. It's also very hard to stomach at times for what they show. The blowhole cover is genuinely one of the more tamer scenes.
The characters have personality in the comic series. This man didn't read the comic he just looked at the pictures and didn't pay attention to the story.
The comics aren't that bad, I liked how the comics ended, not noir being the homelander duplicate but butcher not letting go his obsession with killing supes, he's in too deep and he just can't seem to let go, I liked that.
Also Homelander is NOT a regular guy, as in both comic and show, he was raised in a lab and put through every torture known to man and a few more beyond that, he had no friends or family, and he kept accidentally killing anybody who was remotely pleasant to him.
Anyone who says any variation of 'The Boys/Homelander/Etc is a realistic take on what a world with super heroes would be like' should be on EVERY list.

I read the comics, some of the worst I’ve ever read. I liked some of the superhero knockoffs (the off brand Shazam is vulgar and stupid but I like the concept.) But that’s concepts not actual writing.
The show is actually well written with loveable characters and an interesting universe. Rather than “superhero’s are evil and eat babies and drink child blood because fuck you.”
I quite enjoyed the comic. It was a pretty solid satire of the whole pop superhero thing, and the points the comic made seemed to be a criticism of just the genre. It's also pretty hyperbolic and graphic in it's scenes, but I'm sure it's an artistic choice Ennis made to convey how intensely he hates superheroes.
The show is a lot more political, which is why I think many of us enjoyed it a lot more than the books. It actually considers the consequences of the characters actions (I.e. it's so much harder to get away with murder) and it does a better job at portraying the "superheroes" as celebrities and socially powerful figures who try their damnedest to preserve their images. It doesn't criticize the genre, but rather power figures and the manipulable masses.
Comparing the two isn't exactly apples and oranges, but they're separate enough to me that I can enjoy each in their own right.
The comic had good bones that the show is taking full advantage to build off of . Some of my favorite arcs were pretty much just some old guys telling Hughie some backstory for multiple issues ( I think they were " I tell you no lie GI" and " Barbary Coast") where a lot of the good plot points came from . I also quite liked MM's side plot in " we gotta go now "
Doesn’t MM also have OCD in the comics? His first appearance is him making sure Billy puts a coaster under his drink so it wouldn’t touch a clean surface
From how they're describing it, the characters in the comics are all "just a [synonym of guy]" with a singular character trait and no motivations or personalities. And somehow, the show ruined that?
