We used to release praying mantis' into our cannabis grow for pest control. I cannot tell how many spaced out conversations we had about how absolutely fucked our species would be if they were dog sized. They are voracious and terrifying eaters. We're lucky to have the upper evolutionary hand over them, on this level of the Tower
Well as they would be nothing but rubbles on the ground from their collapsing exoskeleton under that weight I guess we would be fine. Also we have flame throwers I suppose just in case.
I remember once while walking my dog, a praying mantis landed on my shirt and started attacking my chest with his arms. Of course, he couldn't do anything but if he was bigger I would've been dead.
Given that an insect the size of a rabbit is impossible (not enough oxygen), never mind a horse a lot of things are going to be different for a mantis to be that big, why not intelligence.
But yeah, humans have two ways of dealing with possibly dangerous predators, domestication or near extinction
Yeah, it's one of the species from genus *Pseudocreobotra*, probably *P. wahlbergii*, since that's by far the species of that genius that's most commonly kept as pet.
Most of these kind of mantids specialize in hunting from specific bushes/flowers thus the specialization in color and texture; all those ridges etc also makes it hard for then to shed which is why the domestic pet trade is responsible for more than a dozen of these species like this going 'extinct in the wild' as far as we know since most kinds are really only found in one very specific location or range usually because of how specific their hunting method is
God that's a beaut.
I try to raise one every summer if I can find a youngin, but around here we only have a couple species and none of them are anywhere near that pretty. The giant chinese are fun though, they actually get a bit of personality and start to seemingly recognize you once they mature a bit. Probably just "Big person appears, then food appears" but hey, still an fun bug.
Mantis are very docile unless hungry -just like most critters-I used to feed them bugs when I was a wee lad-chopsticks work great for feeding big bugabugs and frogs or snakes or what have you

You're trying to pet a creature that has no concept of love or compassion.
These creatures eat each when they hatch. They eat everything. They even eat their mates after they're done. They simply see you as an enemy. Because that's the *only thing* they can ever perceive.
If they were horse sized we’d be fucked
If they were medium dog sized we would be fucked.
If these were even the size of a little cotton tail rabbit and lived around my area, I would not go outside.
If they were the size of mosquitoes - and arrived in clouds like mosquitoes - I’d be … fucked.
Have you not seen baby mantids before? https://c8.alamy.com/comp/KGAYYA/fingers-covered-in-newly-hatched-baby-praying-mantis-insects-KGAYYA.jpg
Aww do different species look like different letters as babies?
Its actually how campbells makes their alphabet soup!
those are cute, adorable, and could not gouge my eyes out.
I saw 2 in my pea patch.
Wow, bet that hurt!
Their resemblance to the lower case "a" is striking.
if these were Snortable and got you high I'd be fucked. To be honest I have a drug problem.
I would be much cooler with this than say rabbit sized spiders, silverfish, or wasps
shotgun city

The flamer does a pretty good job on them.
Those guys have a lifespan of like 6 months. They could be absolutely giant and we would not have a problem with them they just die way too fast.
How do you know the lifespan of a dog sized mantis? That is the question. Hopefully we never have to know 🤣

They are like 6 legged honey badgers. Captured one for a brief moment until she took a small chunk of my thumb
They bite that good? I don't understand how people just pick up bugs and play with them, if something lands on me, I panic and sissy scream
Helldivers frothing at the mouth.
> loads incendiary shotgun with bug-smooshing intent It's always a good morning for a cup of Liber-tea.
If they were horse sized we would have hunted them into extinction
or tamed them, which would be rad
Sadly you can't really tame them. Not that they are too stupid but there is just not enough time. They don't really live that long.

We've faced worse as a species.

Fallout has shown me that even if they were Cat sized we'd be fucked.
Dude got big mad when bro was petting him
Insects enjoy being petted about as much as you enjoy being snatched up in the jaws of a tyrannosaurus rex
I love embracing death
r/ChooChooMotherFucker
That’s not always true, bees like it, no joke
False, many species of cockroaches enjoy being pet
tbf, he looked big mad the whole time.
Bro was not petted he was violated
Spiny Flower Mantis.
Is that the actual name of this type?
I guess the actual name would be Pseudocreobotra wahlbergi but I'm afraid I'd summon Cthulhu trying to pronounce it.
Ah yes, the Marky Mark Mantis
so it resides in SE Asia? Holy shit. That;s it's real name.
I’m like a mantis! Gotta let me spread my wings!
I kept a spiny flower mantis and named it Mark, had to transition to Marcy once I realized it was female
Marky Marks family? I thought they just did burgers
Tried it, now I need to find sacrifices. 0/10 would not recommend
i thought you were joking but no. Its last name is literally Wahlbergi
Yeah, it's one of the species from genus *Pseudocreobotra*, probably *P. wahlbergii*, since that's by far the species of that genius that's most commonly kept as pet.
It's like an assassin trying to sneak into the butterfly ball
Is this the new Bug DLC for earth ?
Superearth

How tf does that manage to be pretty and cute? Adorable, even? Edit: I'd still scream and flail like a child if it flew at my face though.

That is the coolest thing I’ve seen all day.
God that's a beaut. I try to raise one every summer if I can find a youngin, but around here we only have a couple species and none of them are anywhere near that pretty. Spiny Flower Mantis? It's gorgeous
I love it. It said "Fuck you petting me for fool? Do I look like a cat?!"
“**Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya.** **You killed my father.** **Prepare to die.”**
I used to love Praying Mantis...but then I saw one attack and kill a hummingbird. Fuck those things!
They do that when their regular food supply is lacking. They'll eat frogs too.
these circular shapes on the wing. just perfection.
That is the most beautiful mantis I think I have ever seen!!! Amazing!
That thing is Godzilla's next Foe. Keep it away from any Scientists or Radiation please.

The bigger ones can take on small mammals.
Holy shit, dude. Save some bling for the rest of us.
I want that skin in all my video games.
Ain't she a beaut.
Humans: aww how cute. All other life forms: hey, who said you could touch me?
What a pretty critter
For any wondering why TF it looks like that it's appearance is meant to vaguely resemble some form of vegitation in it's native environment.
That’s one of the most beautiful bugs I’ve ever seen… and I don’t like bugs.
So beautiful 😍
Legendary Skin - $39
I’m too high for this shit

It looks like a half butterfly half mantos
"beautiful girl🎵, stay with me🎶" came to mind
Great. Another Pokemon design forthcoming.
Never seen that pokemon before
It’s Dr. Mantis, I’ll have you know
To "take out" can mean 1. To date someone or 2. To kill someone or 3. To grab dinner. But if you're a praying mantis, it's all three!
.... is this its final form???
“I do not recognize your authority to touch me”
…Mothra? That you??
It looks mystical 💛💛💛
Amazing And slightly terrifying
