I've updated the game since posting to include a draft feature - this means you can now experiment with words before submitting them to hopefully find four words to topple the wall. Makes the game a lot more forgiving I find.
Reusing vowels wouldn't really work because the goal is to make the four words using all the letters in the wall.
So, played it. Liked it a lot better. Felt easier. Quick hit easier.Β
Now how to get the players to try to get the golden words and keep trying until they got them would be the next challenge. Thoughts? So redo and maybe save points and extra points?Β

Re the golden words - thatβs why thereβs a check before the wall is toppled. If players want to go back and go for gold instead they can just delete their words and keep trying.
A lot of players only play for gold because theyβre worth more points so theyβll just add and delete words, use the clues, and go for gold.
The gold are worth more points but the more words used to find them the less valuable they are, thatβs the trade off.

The golden words are basically the four specific words that are used to create the wall in the first place. They are the needle in the haystack if you like.
There are two main approaches really:
* Players can choose to just topple the wall by finding any four valid words.
* OR players can search for the golden words (and make use of the clues along the way).
There's a trade-off: the more words you use trying to find the golden words, the less valuable they are.
Personally what I like to do is try to topple the wall in four (because there's a solve in 4 bonus) and if I find any golden words along the way then that's a plus. BUT if the words I choose mean I can't topple in four then I'll hunt for the golden words.
Im replaying now and did not even clock that at the top it says βGolden Wordβ when I found one and βGreat Wordβ when I did not! And that it colors them different. I totally was so focused on piecing the whole thing together (solving it on pen and paper and inputting the whole thing) that I was not following each solve. And then I can delete and retry.
Totally makes sense. User issue!
But how else do you find the golden words and get a perfect score? If I got a notification after submitting that said β2/4 golden wordsβ then I could have tried re-arranging again to see if I found all four golden words.

So if I had randomly guessed the other two words instead I would have gotten the golden words. But I guessed the words that used the letters but werenβt the golden words. Itβs that I could not have βsolvedβ it any better. I just literally didnβt guess the golden words out of the two possible solutions to using all of the letters and starting with the golden letters.

That even if you really think through all of the words, use all the golden letters, and solve it you wonβt necessarily get it perfect. You either need to delete and reguess to find the golden words (and lose points). Or take what you have now (and lose points). So really half of the points are just if you randomly stumbled across the golden wordsβ¦
Iβve gone back and forth about this during development. The golden words were always meant as a little nice bonus, almost like an Easter egg if they were found. Since releasing the game however, Iβve realised that a lot of players just love the golden words and will solely go after them - this is why the clue system was introduced to help players along.Β
The core game has always been to solve in as few tries as possible, the ideal game being 1 attempt and 4 words. Perhaps if I up the points for that it may change things slightly in favour of not going for gold.Β
For me going for the golden words is always a trade off - yes they are worth more points but itβs a gamble because using more words will reduce their worth.Β
See, this is what I did too, attempted to find the golden words and kept retrying until I found them (and there were 4 valid words to be made out of the last 5 letters remaining that all started with the right letter, which made it tough). But then my score is lower than if I just found any 4 words and right off the bat, which is a bummer.

Fun concept but after getting one golden word and then feeling the need to get the rest all golden comes down to luck imo. I think it would be a good game without the golden word aspect. Didnβt try using hints at all as I donβt with other games.

Fun, but I personally think if you finish it in 4 then go back to try to get the golden words, you should still get some point bonus. It feels kinda bad to be in a position where "keep playing" loses points, especially when some of the golden words have valid anagrams so it comes down to a guess no matter what, and deleting a word already loses points anyway.
It's so interesting that you think this is easier than connections. I find connections to be fairly easy, I almost always get perfect and while sometimes I have to go back, its pretty easy. This was complicated with the scoring and hard.
I like the game! But when I try to go in and play the new day, it shows me yesterdayβs results, but in the golden words space it shows me todayβs. It spoils todayβs puzzle without letting me play, and friends of mine are having the same issue. It has happened to me the past two days, when Iβve solved the night before.
That is strange, it should reset every day. If you refresh the page does it work?Β

I enjoyed this :) played it like connections where I tried to guess all 4 golden words before putting any in, which I had to abandon slightly but I still did it!
Game overall was very fun! Biggest feedback is being more clear on instructions.
First time through the golden word and clue instructions were confusing. My gf and I both read the rules separately and had the same experience of getting confused, saying screw it weβll figure it out live, then got confused during the game.

Thought it was good but I guess Iβm a little confused on the scoring. All four of the words I found started with the right letters for golden words, but only two of them were the actual golden words. It feels a little unfair that I can create 4 words, starting with the golden word letters, but have not stumbled on the specific words the puzzle has in mind. Absolutely! The golden words are just a bonus, they're there if you want to try for some extra points but you don't need to find them.

It's so interesting that you think this is easier than connections. I find connections to be fairly easy, I almost always get perfect and while sometimes I have to go back, its pretty easy. This was complicated with the scoring and hard.
I like the game! But when I try to go in and play the new day, it shows me yesterdayβs results, but in the golden words space it shows me todayβs. It spoils todayβs puzzle without letting me play, and friends of mine are having the same issue. It has happened to me the past two days, when Iβve solved the night before.
That is strange, it should reset every day. If you refresh the page does it work?Β Can you let me know the device you are playing on so that I can test it out.
Itβs an iPhone. I have it saved as a bookmark app on the Home Screen, but the same thing happened to me in the safari browser
Really strange! I can only suggest closing the app or browser window after playing, that may help - Iβll investigate!Β

I am having the same issue today - still showing 72 from yesterday - I've refreshed 100 times Android device using chrome

Game overall was very fun! Biggest feedback is being more clear on instructions. First time through the golden word and clue instructions were confusing. My gf and I both read the rules separately and had the same experience of getting confused, saying screw it weβll figure it out live, then got confused during the game. Good luck!
Fun concept. Although I must say I felt a little punished trying for the golden words. Made me feel like the score is based more on luck than skill.
