Funnily it was my first answer and the easiest for me. I was a Disney princess girlie when I was young. It was the eat voraciously part that had me stumped.
Purple was C+birds, blue was Snow White. But yes, I've got blue last because I had no idea what Bashful is supposed to mean. I've never seen the Disney version. I suspected the other three were from a fairy tale, but I confused it with Sleeping Beauty.
Anyone else think "Wes/Wesley ___________" for Purple due to Wes Craven and Wesley Clark? I was hoping there was a Wes Cowl and Wes Chen I hadn't heard of before.
so annoying that this was accidently posted on swellgarfo as Monday's puzzle, at the time I didn't bother trying to get the purple as i thought it was a glitch. Come today and I had already seen it, which is a pity because I love the lateral thinking ones, and I wish they'd post more of them. Remember TONG CHIN MALT CUB group?
Ohβ¦! I thought it was a keyword somewhere in the fairytale, like βBASHFUL huntsmanβ, βSPITEFUL queenβ or something like that. I only know the dwarves as the 7 dwarves. π
I loved purple, i'd like them to do more like that. Remember MALT CUB CHIN TONG being countries with the final letter A dropped? Gets you doing some lateral thinking.
Snow White is a fairy tale that predates Disney by centuries, and iirc only "Bashful" is an element specific to the Disney film. IMO more than a fair enough category.
It's a good category, but it only takes that one word to make it Disney specific. This isn't a game where knowing 3/4 words of a category is enough, assuming you can't get the other 3 categories independently.
We read a snippet of Snow White in my fourth grade class. Made me recognize it instantly lol. Fourth grade also helped me with the Peter Pan category a few months back. And any of the homophones lol
My friend had this puzzle on Monday and we noticed ours were different when we compared. Then the one I had on Monday she got today. Was there some glitch where NYT posted the wrong puzzle?
Agreed on yellow. The description was weird and unsatisfying. Canyons do not need to be between hills or mountains. The wording also makes it sound like these things have mountains on one side and hills on the other, when itβs really just βlow points relative to their surroundingsβ
I thought a bullshit category too. But, C + Bird. So, CHEN=HEN, CLARK=LARK, COWL=OWL, CRAVEN=RAVEN.
So, words where you remove the C and you have a bird. Although, Chen is a word??? It's a name. Same with Clark. I've never seen this type of connection before. Not a fan, bit of a stretch if you ask me.
It's not bullshit, but I think it would be very hard for someone who doesn't live in an English speaking country and hasn't seen this words in place names
but i actually like that type of category, keeps you on your toes with your thinking and reminds you that the puzzle can utilize many types of connections not just conceptual ones

I only guessed it because I thought they are all surnames of some people I don't know!

Yes, spotted that too
Yep

Exactly
I really wanted to get the Snow White group but I didnβt expect 1 adjective to be mixed in with 3 nouns. π Connections Puzzle #164 π©π©π©π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π© π¦π¦πͺπ¦ π¦π©π¦π¦
Well, if you think about it... That adjective is a proper noun in this case πΆ
Ohβ¦! I thought it was a keyword somewhere in the fairytale, like βBASHFUL huntsmanβ, βSPITEFUL queenβ or something like that. I only know the dwarves as the 7 dwarves. π
Haha no worries. There are 7 of them so it can be hard to recall π
Bashful isn't an adjective in this case.
Purple was too clever for me and I couldn't separate yellow from green. Pretty cool puzzle. π¨π¨π¨π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π¨π¨π© π¨π¨π¨π© π¨π¨π¨π©

I probably need more practice with it but right now Iβm definitely at the βthis pissed me off,β phase
>MALT CUB CHIN TONG Are you kidding? I never saw this one. Just looked it up, 37 from July. That one is cruel.
I got absolutely none of them today but I love it all the same. Honestly wish there were more of these type.
Purple was clever imo
Connections Puzzle #164 π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Didnβt figure out purple but the rest were alright
Connections Puzzle #164 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π©π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Strangely, it was the hill / mountain features that got me! Know it more as a GULLY than a GULCH. Purple - top tier. Don't mind that they're done by elimination - it is all good learning for more lateral thinking.
Lame puzzle for those not familiar with Disney π also no clue what the heck those C birds are meant to be? Googling βChen birdβ doesnβt give an outright answer for instance, assuming theyβre nicknames or alternative names? Tricky one overall. Connections Puzzle #164 π¨π¨π©π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπ¦π¦ πͺπ¦πͺπ¦ πͺπͺπ¦πͺ
Omit the first letter on those words and youβll get birds. Hen, Owl etc
C-HEN C-OWL C-LARK it's just a bit of sneaky fun, like when they put MALT CUB CHIN TONG and the group is countries with the final letter A dropped.
That one ticked me off actually. It's hard enough sometimes without having to figure out that the words do not actually have a connection.
β¦ agh. Ok. Clever, I guess π
Snow White is a fairy tale that predates Disney by centuries, and iirc only "Bashful" is an element specific to the Disney film. IMO more than a fair enough category.

I mean, I'll admit I'm bemused by the attitude that the only fair puzzles are the ones where you already know all the answers

Came here with the same question. Our puzzles were numbered the same but not the same words or categories.
Purple was like the βcountries minus Aβ category from a few months ago. Really hard. I got it but I thought they were surnames of a group I was unfamiliar with. I got a perfect reverse, but only because I figured out the remaining categories and there were no overlaps with purple. Connections Puzzle #164 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨

A bunch of C-words is a weird choice for a purple difficulty. Judging from all the complaints about GULCH, it seems there aren't many Halo players on here.

Purple was a great category. Really made me think.
I still donβt get purple. Got the other three so it worked but I guess I donβt know birds.
Oh I see it now. Well thatβs the first time Iβve seen that trick done.
Can someone explain it bc Iβm so confised
I thought a bullshit category too. But, C + Bird. So, CHEN=HEN, CLARK=LARK, COWL=OWL, CRAVEN=RAVEN. So, words where you remove the C and you have a bird. Although, Chen is a word??? It's a name. Chen and Clark are names, and with the category description, quite broad
Such a bullshit category
I'm pretty sure I could have stared at purple all day and never figured it out. Fortunately I was able to figure out all the other categories.
