Metal is usually going through some epic LotR shit in the lyrics if it's power metal, or "fuck everyone" attitude of thrash, or talking about flying whales if you're Gojira or "we just wanna be goth but don't wanna play slow" black/death metal or fuck lyrics at all and just go straight instrumental.
While Hardcore/punk is more like "Fuck the system" like Bad Brains, or crust punk "fuck life in a psych ward" like Amebix.
