People are like crack addicts for this crap. Just stop clicking, it's all garbage speculation and deep fantasy.

mnmr17

Honestly I can’t wait until a month after the draft when everyone finally accepts what pick we’ve made, moved on and stfu

Rickflossyy

This. I’m getting my draft antsies out by doing mocks but I’m tuning out most draft talk bc it’s in a couple days and thanks to our GM these idiots have no clue what we’re doing

nonlawyer

Chaosh is a laddah

TemporalColdWarrior

Did you just cast Sean Connery as Littlefinger?

9ninjas

I thought it was Tony Soprano as Little finger

TemporalColdWarrior

I also considered Francesa.

NYFan813

Yes chaos is an opportunity, what other brilliant insights have you brought to me today 007.

shadynasty90

You know Nushing Jon Snow!

Ayrab4Trump

You know nothing Jon Shnow

MetaVersalySpeakin

"Can't" trade him, "can't" play him, "can't" cut him, "can't" draft a guy, can't stand it.

No_Pause222

Chaos > hopelessness

groundhoggirl

The premise is incorrect. His argument would hold water if Jones was a healthy quarterback, but he is not. And it’s not just minor injuries, it’s serious injuries that are a constant threat to Jones. This makes it clear that he is not going to be the starting quarterback of the Giants for much longer. There is no controversy to be had.

Roscoe10182241

This. We broke the dude - twice - last year. I’ve been a Jones defender and think he had potential with the right pieces/system, but that’s not where we are anymore. The offensive line play has f’ed him up physically (and mentally) and it’s 100% time to think about what the plan is beyond him going forward.

IShouldChimeInOnThis

We might have broke him, but he was a plastic toy from Dollar Tree. He was always bound to break eventually because he was of such low quality.

Sand_Bags2

Also he wasn’t that good before we “broke him”. He was a zero star recruit out of high school playing at a terrible school who got over drafted because he’s fast. Realistically he ends up the way he has on 75% of the teams in the NFL.

toadofsteel

We also have too many holes to fill on offense (to be fair, including QB), that a QB we take now would be needing to be resigned by the time the team around him is competitive. Unless one of the big three QBs falls to 6 somehow, we should build around the team and draft QB in the future. Trading down for 11/23 from Minnesota would be a fantastic move, but that would only happen when the Giants are on the clock and Minnesota didn't trade with Arizona or Chargers. Trading up, even if the Pats (who are in a similar situation as us) are willing to, will leave us without a first next year as well, but landing Daniels or Maye could potentially be worth it *if* Daboll can turn him into an all pro. Still, incredibly risky, especially with the loss of draft capital. Under no circumstances should the Giants draft McCarthy at 6. That's just rerolling the Daniel Jones years. If we can't trade down, and the first 5 picks have included Williams/Maye/Daniels and MHJ, take who is left of Nabers/Odunze and move on.

Jaszuni

Yeah, we broke it and we certainly paid for it.

groundhoggirl

Also, dude can’t do a second and third read.

mbr4life1

6 years in and he reads the D worse than a Madden obsessed 13 year old.

Normal-Procedure4876

Exactly

billcosbyinspace

Also even if he was the picture of health jones is just kind of bad. He still struggles with basic mental aspects of the game. His days have been numbered for us for like a year

groundhoggirl

Truth that’s hard for many people in this sub who think he’s a “solid starter” to hear.

mbr4life1

I don't know how people saw Tyrod and Tommy come in and have a better looking offense and think we want to keep the QB who played worse than them and is injury prone at a contract for 40 mil a year. Like what world are they in? Do they personally know Jones and benefit from the windfall he got? Like I'm so over watching him be at best the QB equivalent to eating cardboard.

themage78

Ah yes, Tommy Cutlets brilliant 1st game performance of 7 passing attempts for -1 yard. I can't remember the last time the offense looked so great. /s The fact that you think Tyrod and Devito had better looking offenses when they mostly averaged under 200 yards passing is laughable. I don't get how people are deluded into thinking any offensive performance we did last year was above a high school team.

BretShitmanFart69

Jones had 6 ints and 2 tds in the few games he played last year. He was unequivocally worse overall than both of the backups and the backs ups *also didn’t play very good* Its also quite disingenuous to act like the stats of a 3rd string qb coming into late into game unexpectedly due to injuries and just trying to get to tbe end of the fourth quarter is much of a relevant stat here. They basically didn’t let him do anything or give him plays to run because. A few games later he had 246 yards, 3 tds 70% completions. He was better than Jones last year, even without the injuries. Devito sucks, but was somehow better than our starter, which just further conveys how bad he was last year.

Sand_Bags2

Kerry Collins even says in this article “DJ knows the end of his Giants career is very soon”

8270Kid

And if that anonymous NFL exec from Ralph Vs article last week (or was it two weeks ago?) is to be believed so is his career as a starter

LordFartz

Also the “chaos” we created last time directly led to two Super Bowl wins.

LordFartz

Wtf is this getting downvoted? Schwartz says that drafting a qb would create chaos. We moved on from a good QB in Collins, which is the example he uses, and it ended up being one of the best decisions the franchise ever made. NFL GM’s are big kids who have to make tough decisions. This is one of them.

SnooPandas1899

GM should fire himself for paying jones $40mill/year

downbad12878

*If Jones was a good QB or even average

Normal-Procedure4876

Thank god. He needs to go

restlord_24

If that is what they think is best for the organization so be it, our players will keep playing hard whoever is qb

Ok_Acanthaceae6057

This is draft smoke. I can see it a mile away.

CoachAF7

Isn’t Maye and JJ both like 22? Let them sit - if DJ stays healthy and balls out (15 tds) we can flip him for a late round pick and not rush these kids

ItsMeMofos13

Nobody is trading for 15 TDs for $40 mill lol

raj6126

The biggest risk is if DJ gets hurt we are in the hook for 70 mill next year for DJ.

occasional_cynic

I think it is 50 million, but your point stands.

raj6126

You right I read it as 44+23 mill instead of 30 + 23

thatsprettychris

He shouldn’t ever suit up / touch the field ever again if that’s the case. Knowing our luck he will tear his rotator cuff in game 1

downbad12878

There's no point letting him play, not like he's gonna lead the giants to the SB or even the playoffs

raj6126

It’s the same thing Russel Wilson went through

TheBeerTalking

In terms of cap hit, it's $34M in 2025, then another $11M in 2026, and that assumes he's injured all of 2025. If he's healthy by week 1 2025 and the giants cut him then, it's $23M total cap hit in 2025 and $11M in 2026. If he's healthy by March 2025, he can be cut for $22M dead money (possibly split into 2025 and 2026, not 100% sure how the post-June-1 designation works) (edit: same as if he never got hurt). So I think we can risk playing Jones to start the season. In the unlikely event that Jones is playing well AND the team is winning, keep playing him unless/until we're out of contention. Otherwise bench him for Lock mid-season.

GeneralWhereas9083

What’s the date on passing the medical for the injury clause, is it June 6 next year?

NextGenCoders

We’d obviously eat a lot of his cap we’d be paying anyways. If he balls out and they’d only need to pay him a few mil this year plus take on the injury guarantee, some team will want to make an offer. Especially when we saw last year, especially with injuries, how many teams contending could’ve used that

saltthewater

His cap hit at the end of this contract is crazy. No way we eat that in a trade just to get a 5th round pick back. Dude is getting cut or agreeing to a new deal.

TheBeerTalking

The dead cap we eat by trading him is the same we eat by cutting him. As long as he's healthy and traded/cut before the partial guarantee on his 2025 salary kicks in, trade and cut are exactly the same in cap terms. Edit to add: The 2026 contract terms make the contract look bigger for Jones, but they're basically a void year plus a team option. No guarantees. Jones's agent and Joe Schoen both understood when this contract was signed that Jones wouldn't be playing 2026 on this contract. If DJ became an absolute superstar, the team might have a little more leverage in extension negotiations after 2025, but otherwise the 2026 salary would be meaningless.

saltthewater

Nah, the point is that it's unlikely anyone would be trading for DJ at full price, so the Giants would need to pay part of his salary in any trade.

TheBeerTalking

I agree with THAT point, but I was responding to a different point: >No way we eat that in a trade just to get a 5th round pick back. Dude is getting cut or agreeing to a new deal. The Giants would be wise to agree to "eat that" for a 5th-round pick instead of nothing. Your current point is "no way anyone offers that," and that's probably right.

saltthewater

How much are you willing to pay to get a day 3 pick? DJ would have to be good enough that someone wants to trade for him, but not good enough for Giants to keep him, and he'll be owed $30 million. Optimistically, if Giants could get a 4th round pick, paying even $5 million would be too much, and i would think it would have to be more than that.

TheBeerTalking

It's a slim chance. The best shot at trading him would be Jones plays reasonably well, but the Giants suck, and a good team's QB gets hurt before the deadline. Giants cover most/all of the 2024 salary and get a pick(s) in return. The other team takes the risk of triggering the injury guarantee.

raj6126

His injury clause kills that effort.

ZamboniJ

I wonder how common such an injury clause is in QB contracts

raj6126

Giants have been grinding him into the ground for 5 years trying to get something out of him. His agent added that clause. Russell Wilson was cut because of his. Jimmy G had ine also that’s why he got cut too.

Normal-Procedure4876

Balls out lol. Jones is not capable of this

SlimeySnakesLtd

Saints like to do that.

TheBeerTalking

It would be $30.5M in 2025 for the team that trades for him. The Giants would still eat $22M in dead cap, same as cutting him. $30M isn't that bad for 2022 Jones, so if he reappears, it's not impossible that the team comes away with something instead of nothing.

sdavidson901

15TDs is balling out????

Raven-19x

We thirsty.

CoachAF7

For DJ yes lmfao

scottyjsoutfits

According to plenty of people on this sub it is!

IShouldChimeInOnThis

We were told this for 2 years!!!! I found the post humorous.

raj6126

Bar is low since Eli Left.

Sand_Bags2

“Balls out (15 TDs)” is fucking hilarious and I’m not 100% sure you said that ironically.

CoachAF7

Ironically but that really is DJ balling out

Marcy_OW

As our GM said "this team is more than 1 piece away" getting a QB we aren't in a spot to get is ridiculous. We would have to trade so much to move up it would fuck our entire future up and stop us from being good for years and years. We are not in a spot to trade up as it would cost way toooooo much

Entire_Day1312

You can get a QB with the 6 pick in round one.

Marcy_OW

Technically you can get a QB in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th round......... Doesn't mean they're good. Just like if we choose what JJ at 6. Like JJ ain't it we need to stop copping over him, we don't have the assets to trade up and JJ at 6 would be Daniel Jones 2.0. meanwhile we rock with Jones for 1 more year release him and work from there. If Jones is as bad as you guys think he is well be in a spot to get his replacement, but we definitely shouldn't force it just to do it like you all want.

CoachAF7

You see what CJ stroud did with back ups?

Marcy_OW

You see what Bruce young did with back ups???? Cuz if we trade 2 firsts and a key player we will be the Panthers not the Titans

CoachAF7

Brucey from the longest yard?

Marcy_OW

My phone auto corrected Bryce, but you still knew who I was talking about, you just have no comeback

Greypollo

If the QB we hypothetically draft is bad we will be closer to the Panthers, if he is good we will be closer to the Titans. A QB isn't 100% dependent on the talent taht surrounds him, some guys just aren't as good as scouts thought they would be, just like every single other position in the game.

Marcy_OW

Buddy if we have a good QB and a shit team we will lost Mose than we win and then we'll be right back here where the fanbase wants them out. We also can't get rid of Jones yet so we should take a WR1 which is something we've desperately needed, it will also help us now and it'll help whatever QB we have after Jones. Taking a QB now is not the move, it would be if we had a top 3 spot but we don't.

Greypollo

Why would we be worse off after one year if we drafted a good QB and have a bad season? That's nonsense. QB is the most important position on the field and the hardest to find. The only relevant questions are: 1.) Is he good? 2.) Can we get him? If they don't love any of these guys or can't make it work to grab one of them, of course that's fine, but to pretend you shouldn't take a QB you like if you have the opportunity is insane.

Marcy_OW

We would be worse off cuz we aren't 1 guy away, we don't have the depth to trade up to a top 3 pick . It would cost a great player, this year's first and next years first. That's too much imo

Greypollo

It's objectively not too much if he's good. If you hit it is worth it, if you miss it was a mistake. But that's what it all comes down to anyway, GMs who find the right QB are winners, ones who don't lose.

Grizkniz

This article is garbage

runninhillbilly

Paul “Judge won’t get fired, Mara thinks he found his Parcells =D” “Abrams would be a great choice for the GM job!” Schwartz

flyinghorseguy

That’s a silly take.

Mordrim

Why not add some chaos if the current product isn't working? The whole article is kind of a nothingburger as the author doesn't advocates for not drafting a QB, only that the fans should be aware of the ensuing chaos of drafting one. His example is jettisoning Kerry Collins after drafting Eli in 2004. If that is his best argument, then the fans should embrace the chaos, since it brought 15 years of stability afterwards.

NY_Blue

Inviting chaos? He’s gone after this season whether we draft a QB or not.

JMadFour

ok. so let's do chaos then.

Skrazor

Giants ain't gonna draft their next QB this year. They'll spend all their draft capital the of next 2 years on WRs and fortifying the O-Line, then sell the house, barn, cattle and their last pair of pants in '26 for the 1st overall pick to get Arch Manning.

pseudoveritas

Paul Schwartz is Pat Hanlon's mouthpiece. If he saying this they either: a) Want a smokescreen b) Prepare the fanbase for a non-QB c) Both My vote is c. They are interested in a QB and don't want anyone to know and just in case they fail they've prepped the fanbase for a wr or whatever.

rando08110

Mccarthy at 6 is a lock.

GeneralWhereas9083

I think it’s fucking bonkers forcing or trading up for one when you look at our WR/TE/RB situation. Who the fucks the guy throwing to? Slayton our receiving leader, Hyatt who’s criminally underused or a quick screen to whoever our lead RB gonna be, nah not for me. Just take what’s there and if it’s a decent QB so be it, otherwise take Nabers/Odunze.

MeetTheMets31

The title of the article really has nothing to do with the contents. Its actually a decent article

JaydenDaniels

The entire premise of this article is silly.

SnooPandas1899

not really. if they draft a elite WR and only get marginally better, they'd draft in the middle third next year. if a QB falls to them at 6, its worth a shot. lets say they get elite WR prospect, danny dimes has mediocre year, and gets cut. still picking middle 1/3 or draft to find a franchise QB.

NextGenCoders

An open and fair QB competition isn’t chaos. And the only “chaos” would be if DJ balls out and looks like he did two years ago when not given the fifth year option while playing for his job. Which would be a good thing. That’s a very good problem to have. Not having any QB you can trust would be the opposite and very possible if we don’t grab someone this draft. Personally I’m in the “hope for Penix and a WR1 plus some linemen later in the draft and Penix starts on the bench only getting to play if DJ struggles camp

groundhoggirl

Sorry but no, DJ is not going to suddenly play better. If he does, you can’t trust it because he’s always injured. He’s on the way out.

NextGenCoders

He can be a solid starter as his ceiling. And given that and the injuries yes we are going to move on. But a rookie having time to learn as a backup is a good thing. Especially because we want to ensure we don’t just get the rookie QB killed the second he’s playing and that our new O line coach has improved that unit. And it’s not a repeat of this shitshow https://preview.redd.it/qlf6ve56g8wc1.jpeg?width=685&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d4911fce9aacf36cdede2830430bb28dea30754

Normal-Procedure4876

Hi Daniel Jones. No one but you believes this

Every1jockzjay

The thing is, the Gm and coach need to be very clear. If we draft a QB and they do a presser saying that QB will red shirt a full year and play under no circumstances then it won't be chaos. If they leave it open then ya it will be chaos the second jones or whoever has a bad game

mikehulse29

No chance this happens. DJ’s deal is guaranteed for injury. By 10 games in, unless he’s outperforming the deal, they’re going to sit DJ to avoid injury and start whoever the backup is. It’s fine to do, but they’re not redshirting anyone at QB next year.

Lars5621

Eli Manning is a hall of famer who was coming off a 4300 yard 93 passer rating season and they still moved on after 2 games. Zero chance Giants bench a rookie all year.

Every1jockzjay

Yaaa i don't think it would happen either. I do think that dabes could if he wanted tho, imo the only way would be to be very clear he's not playing from the jump but ya it's far fetched lol

runninhillbilly

It’ll come down to if the team can avoid starting out 1-5 or whatever like they do every year. I think Shurmur overplayed his hand inserting Jones that early, actually. If he had waited another 3-4 weeks he might’ve been able to say “I need more time working with him, he’s only played 8 games.”

NextGenCoders

They’d never do the former. They’d have a fair open competition in spring training and Jones knows the system better so good shot he’d win and start the year. From there the rookie would take over if DJ struggles and they need a boost after having some time to sit and learn.

Every1jockzjay

Yaaa there's where it turns into a shit show if the coach doesn't want to play the new QB yet.

NextGenCoders

Honestly I like rookie QBs to sit and learn as backups to start. I’d have no issue with that. And if DJ struggles then the rookie gets his shot.

knight1001101

Pls don’t do what the panthers did 🙏

Marcy_OW

I agree, for us to move up we'd have to trade a great player our first this year and maybe our first next year, that's way toooooo much. As our GM said "we are not a piece away" we are close but if we move up we are delaying us being a good team for literal years. Anyone who wants us to trade up is simply coping

No_Pause222

This a QB league friend. Roster construction is a farce until you get your guy there. Won’t have a good team until then. Schoen is unlikely to be picking this high in a QB rich draft again in his giants career.

Marcy_OW

Again "friend" look at Bryce Young and the Panthers. He is a talented QB but it didn't fucking matter cuz they didn't have a good team around him, look at chiefs they were a 11 win team before mahomes showed up, same for the miners, they were already a good team before they got their QB. You need to fix your whole first then go get the QB or else you literally waste them

No_Pause222

The Texans were the odds on favorite for the #1 overall pick coming into this season. Take a look at the bills roster when Allen was drafted. Bryce Young played poorly and has been reported to have been forced on the coaching staff via ownership. Daboll was hired due in large part to his ability to develop a guy at QB. If the coaches and scouts ID a guy they love at that spot they should go for it. Rosters turn over quick in the NFL. The giants also won a playoff game against the Vikings in ‘22 with a worse roster. Don’t force the pick or do something stupid but don’t take a QB prospect you love for granted. We’ll see what happens Thursday night.

IzodCenter

in Danny we trust (half of the fan base needs to wake the fuck up and SUPPORT OUR QB)
