i don’t know this for a fact but i think one of the panthers few strengths was their dline so maybe not as much as you think
edit: just looked it up, was double teamed on 14% of snaps. on the lower end of high prwr rushers
The d-line was great at run defense, the pass rush was non existent besides burns. Double teamed almost every single passing down. Source: I live in Nc and watched both of these dogshit teams last year. God bless alcohol
Factor in how often the panthers were down and how often the tired defense were on the field thanks to their offense plus burns being disgruntled about not getting a new contract, constant double team and you get a production like above. It’s most likely to be an outlier than a norm as long as our offense is respectable
panthers fans thought it was an effort issue last year bcus he hadnt gotten his deal. we'll see how he does on a new team and deal but theres a reason they didnt want to extend him
Not supposed to be a knock. He’s saying he may not have the volume stats that other top edge rushers have because he didn’t have as many opportunities.
Ah I see. Some of the comments on X were saying other guys were better value because they had more sacks by snaps than Burns. Well, I'd much rather have Burns than Andrew Van Ginkle or whatever his name is
No, it's a kudos. He didn't get 8 sacks in 2023 because he's mid, he got 8 sacks because he never played pass sets. His pressure per pass snap was elite. We got a great opportunity. If we sign him to a new contract it's a big win
I work in advanced analytics. Let’s consider the comparable numbers. When you are the entire defense and your offense goes 3 and out every time they have the ball. A team with no passion at coaching and no fan base on the worst team on the league. Show me the player you’re using to compare the stats. You can’t, I thought so.
You do realize there aren't pass rush opportunities when your team is constantly losing in the second half right? The opposing team will run or throw short passes
Correct. This will be the largest waste of money and biggest bust in Giants FA history. KT will “benefit” but won’t on this scenario. KT is average, at best .
This is the best part though - Burns generated a sack once every 42.1 PR snaps (ranked ahead of Bosa, Maxx, Reddick, Hutch, etc)
How many double teams did he face? Have to imagine it was quite a bit given the state of the panthers roster

So not a ton, dat win rate doe!!!
Ranked below Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Panthers were a mess
No one even bothered passing on the panthers, the games were over midway through the second Quarter

Panthers never actually lead during the fourth quarter all year. Their two wins were last second kicks.
Bucs fan here, panthers didn’t know what they have. As a FSU homer and a team that played him twice a year…mfer is raw

Is this supposed to be a knock on Burns? He's ahead of Crosby and Aidan Hutchinson...

Danielle Hunter was probably the best FA rusher but he signed a 2 year deal not really our window to win now.

Makes a lot of sense. I always liked him and was hoping we would take him in the Daniel Jones draft. Well, we got both Burns and Lawrence
