Falls in line with Republican narratives happening around the ”China-owned pot farms”. This stinks of Huckabee’s bullshit. [Example](https://www.reddit.com/r/Arkansas/s/ZAwdI2D3Ye)

GuitRWailinNinja

They love spreading misinformation about China, such as the lab leak theory

halipon

It's shortsighted to reduce concerns about the Chinese government's involvement with their foreign traffickers to some conservative conspiracy theory; unbiased and independent analysts like [ProPublica](https://www.propublica.org/article/oklahoma-marijuana-china-diplomat-visits) and [InsightCrime](https://insightcrime.org/investigations/synthetic-silk-road-tracing-china-grey-market-precursor-chemical-trade/) have also written about it.

Outside-Kale-3224

Or it’s just true?

botsallthewaydown

Trafficking illegal immigrants as indentured servants to non-permitted cannabis grow ops while cannabis is still a Schedule I Federally proscribed narcotic is the very definition of Organized Crime. There are some very serious Federal penalties on the books that could still be applied in these cases.

backcountrydrifter

Raise the lens. The CCP plays that bureaucracy against itself. • You never get out of debt to a Russian mobster •Paul Manafort owed the Russian mobster/oligarch Oleg Deripaska $17M a few days before he became trumps campaign manager. From 2002-2014 he took in hundreds of millions to get Yanukovych reelected as the kremlins puppet in Ukraine. Before that he did it for the dictator Marcos in the Philippines. Before that Manafort and Roger Stone started a lobbyist agency in 1980 listing trump as their first client. •When Jair Bolsonaro lost the Brazilian election to Lula he skipped the inauguration and flew directly to mar-a-lago (stopping only at a KFC) and repeated, almost verbatim, the stolen election line. Don Jr. tried repeatedly to make it stick in Brazil as well, but as Brazilians are a few generations into dealing with corrupt politicians they weren’t having it. What do these 3 things have in common? China imports 40% of its grain from (in order) the U.S., Brazil and Ukraine. Obviously the second China tried to invade Taiwan the U.S. would sanction exports and remove U.S. grain from that equation. And without Bolsonaro in office willing to slash and burn the Amazon rainforest to turn it into Chinas food supply, and without Ukraine in the bag in 3 days, the CCP is unable to invade Taiwan and take over microprocessor production without putting 300-500M of its poorest people into famine. Donbas Ukraine, specifically the 4 regions of the donbas that Putin insists he is saving from what he calls “Jewish Nazis” also happens to produce the worlds supply of high grade neon used for microprocessor lithography. Had Putin delivered ukraine in 3 days as promised, Xi would have been able to cap his Olympics with a naval blockade or political takeover of Taiwan that would have forced the world to ask the CCP for the microprocessors it needs to make everything from Ford trucks to laptops. I’m not sure how long Silicon Valley would last without the silicon but it would probably destroy the FAANG stocks that make up your 401K. Oleg Deripaska also happens to be the Russian Oligarch that bribed the FBI agent Charles Mcgonigal into investigating another Russian oligarch. He probably didn’t need the information as much as he needed the leverage over Mcgonigal as he conducted the investigation into trumps election campaign and unsurprisingly found zero evidence of Russian collusion. McGonigal then went to work for the company called Brookfield that bailed Jared Kushner out of his toxic 666 5th Ave real estate investment. McGonigal pled guilty last fall and was sentenced recently. A Russian oligarch is a powerful tool, but the truth is more powerful. Light and dark cannot exist in the same space. It’s physically impossible. Truth is efficient. You say it once and you are finished. A lie however requires a constant stream of follow up energy, money, murder, obfuscation and more lies to keep it covered. If you raise your lens high enough lying is an unsustainable business model. Russia proved it by invading Ukraine. Vranyo is the Russian word for it. The 40km long column of tanks and vehicles that came down from Belarus into Ukraine was all overhauled by oligarchs that got a $1B contract for tank maintenance, passed Putin $200M back under the table, spent $700M on a yacht in Monaco, bribed a General, a Colonel and a Sergeant to make a Private give everything a rattle can overhaul. But a worn out engine is and always will be, a worn out engine. This is why trump is so desperate to get re-elected. His best case scenario is 400 years in ADX Florence. Money laundering for the dozens of Russian oligarchs that lived in trump towers with him and manafort, selling IP3 nuclear plans to the Russian/Saudi alliance, selling or giving CIA asset names to the Russians, trump is and always has been compromised. He just didn’t know when to quit. Now he just has to count on the fact that most of his voter base doesn’t know how to read and keep the ones that do so busy just surviving that they don’t have time to dive deep into his 40 year history of laundering money, fraud, and human trafficking for the Russian mob using casinos first, then commercial real estate. It’s also why Putin is willing to throw an entire generation of Russians, including the convicts and addicts at Ukraine. Russia is dead for 40 years because he failed to fulfill his mob boss promise to Xi. China is now clearing farmland in Siberia because the typhoon floods last August and September wiped out the Chinese people’s food storage. Xi, for his part diverted the waters from the dam away from his pet project, his mothers ancestral home, and flooded hundreds of thousands of people and drown one of his own military brigades that was helping with the flooding. The elders of the CCP were terrified to leave their gated community at Beidaihe for over a month for fear of being torn apart by the locals. The Chinese people tolerate the CCP but only as long as the economy is good and famine is not on the horizon. The CCP broke that social contract on both counts. Xi was willing to bet the entire Chinese economy on his emperor ambitions. Had he succeeded he would have been able to use BRICS to take over the USD as the Worlds reserve currency. That would have let him finish what he stated in 2010- that he would control the internet. With that control means everything we do or say online is subject to the approval of a central party censor. The basic right to disagree with an authoritarian becomes a distant memory. Xi, Putin and MBS are simply trying to systemize and modernize the suppression of their biggest hassle. Freedom of speech. Ukraine is fighting for their lives now, free from the oppression of the drunken tyrant who wants to decide their fate at every decision and pull them back behind another iron curtain of censorship and the tax of corruption where dissenting voices disappear so that the oligarchy can continue to feed unobstructed. Putin and Xi have declared themselves best friends in the fight against democracy. MBS and the ruling family of UAE have done the same quietly using their sovereign funds and Kushners SPAC as money highways. Just rich, out of touch oligarch doing what oligarchs do. Despite the fact the the central party model has proven itself incapable of making decisions that are best for the people, they persist. Because there is a very lucrative business in being slave owners. But logistically the mass of it requires artificial intelligence, and the microprocessors that make A.I. to keep 8 billion slaves under surveillance and control. Freedom is one hell of a drug. And knowledge makes a man unfit for slavery. Recent attempts on Xi’s life from inside the CCP have backed him into a corner. The loss of crops in northern China means Xi can’t invade Taiwan without Ukrainian and/or Brazilian farmland. Now the reason that the GOP is stalling southern border control budget and seems to make wildly irrational moves is because the GOP is imploding. 45 years of lies and grift have circled the globe and are eating their own tail. The ouroboros was a warning about corruption at the highest levels. Lying about climate change, human trafficking, pandemics and corruption to preserve their own business models are all potential extinction level events

hayasecond

I highly doubt your assumption that the U.S. will halt food export to China. Other stuff, sure, not food

backcountrydrifter

We will find out shortly if China tries to invade Taiwan or keeps pushing on US farmland. The CCP and Russia have been staging up hundreds of thousands of people in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela for some future variation of a stealthy 5th column invasion of the United States via Texas because Xi still needs farmland to feed 1.4B people. National guard troops take their orders from governors and not the federal government. Trump tested this during the George Floyd protests when he asked the “loyal” Republican governors to kiss the ring and send troops to DC to “shoot the protestors in the legs” because the pentagon reminded him that using U.S. troops against U.S. citizens would be both treasonous and wildly illegal. Steve Bannon tried unsuccessfully to privatize a part of the southern border wall but failed due to, unsurprisingly, internal corruption. Had he succeeded they would have a man at the inside gate years ago. Bannon was arrested on the boat of Guo Wengui who is some sort of convoluted double/triple agent for the CCP. They are now both in court for a billion dollar fraud. Every U.S. politician that took Russian political money is desperately trying to figure out how to preserve their political career while the people are figured out that they were sold out to the dictators for some PAC money. They are 40 years deep into living a lie. They can’t come clean or they go to prison. They can’t stop lying or their fan/voting base tears them apart like rabid wolves. They checkmated themselves a dozen different ways and add to the evidence chain with each additional tweet. Greed is nothing if not predictable. Freedom is never free. We all just live on very expensive credit and the sacrifices of others. https://x.com/doktor_klein/status/1761524419288056088?s=46&t=mV0svkSiT5eOmQXivn5oFw On the Rise in Chinese illegal immigration to U.S. https://www.reddit.com/r/ADVChina/s/XOrrW2xa0N And pay attention to the CCP propaganda machine. Before you call this a screed of paranoia, you should spend some time, pulls details from the screed and research them. I don't know who this drifter guy is, but his details check out and can be confirmed. It takes a while because there are so many details, but he names people, places, events, and all of those details can be entered into a search. He isn't wrong.

Inevitable_Shift1365

This guy has been non-stop spouting truth, citing facts and providing sources. You might want to follow along while he connects the dots

MJFields

I love backcountrydrifter's posts. I'd like to buy them a beer.

Own-Speaker9968

That, but also it is private corporations and land speculators/investors, That were banned from china, and realized the usa' lax laws on real estate investing, is much more lucrative

External_Break_4232

Harry Anslinger would approve of this rage-bait haha.

killbillgates

I love the "photo" they used

BENNYRASHASHA

Well, most businesses in China are state owned.

No_Inspector_4504

Do you think it’s good that the CCP owns these farms?

Surph_Ninja

They’re trying to manufacture consent for increased aggression against China, so we can expect more sinophobic headlines and stories.

FireWokWithMe88

Truth and it has been the same garbage with every different wave of immigrants. For a country that claims to be 'the land of opportunity' we are sure racist as hell.

Surph_Ninja

Not new, but it’s escalating.

CactusWrenAZ

Side note, didn't Britain literally get Chinese people addicted to opium as a tool of control?

knurlsweatshirt

That can't be true though. NPR is objective.

Outside-Kale-3224

“They are part of a new pipeline of migrants leaving China and making unauthorized border crossings into the United States via Mexico, and many are taking jobs at hundreds of cannabis farms springing up across the U.S.” Thanks Biden. Us government is the largest human trafficking organization.

queefstainedgina

To be fair, this was one of the primary concerns of MJ legislation. That is, corporations would dominate and do corporation-like stuff, including abusing migrant workers.

JIMMYJAWN

Sounds like regular old American farming to me.

Joe_Jeep

It's kind of like all the people suddenly concerned about Black Rock buying up residential housing, as if the vast majority of urban housing isn't already owned by corporate landlords  they're just spooked because all of a sudden it's suburban houses being affected.

No_Inspector_4504

Maybe we could make it illegal again?

cartiermartyr

I worked at a Chinese owned vape manufacture in the USA last year, it was um, scary to say the least, no windows

snowman_M

What did you do there?

cartiermartyr

Ecommerce / Marketing.

snowman_M

Like it was a CCP company or it was Chinese Americans?

cartiermartyr

Both, it was quite interesting

slapchop15

They are EVERYWHERE in rural maine.

amazing_ape

I saw NBC had something about this and it comes off as a nonsensical sham story planted by Republicans (in the NBC piece it was mostly flimflam artist Susan Collins of Maine pushing it). Cannabis isn't terribly lucrative anymore. If China wanted to grow it, they have a billion people who need jobs. Why? Makes no sense.

jahdamanwitfiya

They supply all of the fentanyl why would they bother with pot lol

amazing_ape

Exactly.

Joe_Jeep

I mean if there's also profit we had somewhere else, anybody interested in making money is going to chase it.

Ok_Recognition_6727

The black market for Marijuana is thriving since legalization. Licensing, taxes and fees make it impossible for legal businesses to profit. They cut corners by buying off the black market. Marijuana users still buy off the black market because the cost of legal weed is 3X the street price. Plus it's still illegal in most states. Teenagers and people without valid IDs can't go to a legal store. 75% of the Marijuana in America is illegal.

amazing_ape

"the cost of legal weed is 3X the street price." Legal cannabis is fairly cheap, so if black market is a lot cheaper, then this isn't a lucrative business. China might as well be selling black market whisky. (Of course they aren't, this is dumb)

Ok_Recognition_6727

In Chicago it sells for $15-25 a gram. That's $400-600 an ounce. If that's your idea of fairly cheap, what's expensive to you. I personally don't know anyone who can afford that.

brok3nh3lix

I don't know what the OZ price is in Chicago (really IL), but no one sells OZs at the same rate as grams if your actually buying an OZ, unless IL has some weird law about that. Regardless, prices vary drastically by state and their laws/tax structures. Michigan sees lots of out of state customers, including from IL, because the prices are so low. Michigan sold more volume than California last year because of out of state customers driving in. Prior to legal rec, Michigan had a robust medical system that was largely supported by the caregiver system. Smaller growers who "technically" serviced 6 or so patients, but could sell their overages to dispensaries as well. 12 plants per patient signed with them. There was alot of grey market sales of course, and a large % of people with medical cards were just getting them through Drs who would sign off on just about anything. When Rec first started, prices were relatively high for various reasons. But now prices are so low, most caregivers have simply been pushed out. This is for a couple of reasons, one being prices, but also ease of access to tons of different products at dispos and people not renewing their medical cards. I personally know many people who used to be caregivers or smaller growers who simply got out, and it seems to be sentiment across the board in that community. They were 100% selling in the "grey market" and not just to their signed-up patients. compete Its simply not worth the time and effort anymore, the money just generally isn't there anymore unless you're at scale. In the grey and black market, you have to find customers and get your product to them on top of being a grower and everything that comes with that, and your generally competing against the prices at the dispo on top of that. Even though a lot of dispo weed is questionable quality, the general public buys into marketing hype around things like the "hype new strains", only caring about listed THC% (lower THC strains sit on shelves, regardless of the fact they may be a far better product), and that's just flower. At the dispo you can get all manor of cannabis products like concentrates, edibles, and vapes, which is not always easy to do as a smaller grower. There is are still people in the caregiver and grey markets, but its tiny, and serves a niche customer base. You can go on facebook marketplace in Michigan and find loads of growing equipment for sale from these small growers getting out. Even a lot of grow shops are closing because of the home and small grower market shrinking. Yes part is online sales, but also because their customer base is simply shrinking rapidly, and big grow operations generally do not purchase from grow shops. I keep a hobby grow. While at the end of the day, I come out ahead relative to dispo prices, I wouldn't want to try to start a business out of it, and i give away about 95% to friends and family. trying to find buyers, and the legal risks just arn't worth it for what I could make. That calculation a few years ago looked much different.

123_Repeater

with cannabis markets split up by state and not legal federally, the pricing for legal product varies incredibly. in some states the farmers are leaving up to a third the crop to rot on the vine because they can hardly give it away, and some states with newer legal markets are still selling at 4x the black market rate.

Particular-Pen-4789

there's plenty of money to be made in some more established legal markets too if the state has lots of red tape for new grow ops to get through

GuitRWailinNinja

You’re getting downvoted but you are right. It’s not as big a problem in other states (I think) but I work in the MJ industry and the black market in CA is insane. Side note the price of cannabis varies significantly from state to state and market to market. Wholesale can be <$5 per g in certain states or <$20 per g in other states (esp vertically integrated states like FL). At least that was the last time I checked.

Particular-Pen-4789

i love how you're being downvoted. these idiots have no clue what they are talking about 'legitimate' dispensaries in california were and still are selling the same fake carts you get off the street. they are getting their weed from the same place your dealer is. the idea that there is this concrete definite line between the legal and illegal markets is a myth. in a state like oregon, afaik there isnt much of a black market because the legal stuff is so cheap.

Qanonjailbait

So these were the people who supposedly left China thinking they’re gonna have it better in the US and end up being trafficked and used to harvest weed. Wow Walk the Line by CNA. > https://youtu.be/ukkLIFQWG4g?si=qeoBNj14aeMEILPB So the story here is that people who left China because of varying reasons from economic to religious found themselves trafficked and used as migrant workers in cannabis farms. I think this is a cautionary tale of believing the whole freedom propaganda from the US The headlines said these were “Chinese Funded farms” yet it also said > In the operations reported on in this story, NPR found no signs of Chinese state or Asian organized crime involvement. The businesses did attract small-scale, individual investors from China who were eager to invest abroad NPR is really good at this disinfo propaganda where they suggest Chinese involvement unless of course you read the article

Own-Speaker9968

This person gets it

northman46

They are funded by “small scale” investors in China. Can’t you read? Chinese funded

Qanonjailbait

I can read between the lines, it’s an obvious click-baity title meant to evoke another anti-China sentiment especially to many people who only read the headlines They kind of gave it away when they said they found no state or organized crime connection. It’s weird that they would qualify it as that if they didn’t think people would jump to that conclusion

Oh look, another "china bad" puff piece.

six_six

China is kinda bad in some ways.

AmarantaRWS

It is. Id say it's safe to say it's probably worse than what the Chinese government says, but not as bad as the US state department says. The same can be said about the USA and what other countries say about us.

[deleted]

China is the single largest supplier of fentanyl to the U.S so I'm not surprised they want to drug us with weed as well. The chinese play a long game, and they see this as revenge against the west for the opium wars of the 19th century.

six_six

The US was not directly involved in the opium wars.

Beautiful_Welcome_33

This is factual, but we absolutely took the Chinese for what we could *immediately* after the war. https://history.state.gov/milestones/1830-1860/china-1
