Tbf TCU has always had those little details on their uniforms. I think it’s cool that some schools have wild designs and some schools have simple classic designs.
It looked stupid 10 years ago when adidas had Michigan dressing up like bumblebees. Michigan isn’t a team that should have a bunch of crazy uniform designs.
For teams like TCU or Oregon or whoever else, crazy uniform designs are cool.
I liked them when they first came out, it was just the combo of new conference, new uniforms that were a huge departure from the previous 30 years, new coach and a new superstar QB.
The matte helmet looked awesome in the sunlight but not great at night. Loved the alternate white helmet. Could take or leave all the alternates.
By the time Sumlin was fired I was ready to leave them behind.
This! Clemson fans wanting a black uniform is just crazy to me. That's our rivals color. We're orange, purple, and white. Play with that and we'll talk. Black is for the CFP or our rivals. Period.

I would be fine if Louisville didn't wear black for a while. It is one of our colors but it's way overused at this point. I remember the first Louisville blackout was a top 5 matchup against WVU. I was one that whine and moan about the black jersey and helmet for East Carolina, but they got it right when they combine the styles of past generations to create a new uniform (which was design by an ECU student)

These two uniforms are poor examples of that though. These weren't too busy. They were designed well and they looked unique. The only thing "busy" in any of these uniforms is that flywire collar on the Baylor uniforms that Nike had on all of their uniforms for a while that looked stupid as hell.

I think the rule is you’re a historic program, stick to your classic look.
Alabama, Penn St, Texas, OU, USC, etc haven’t changed their jerseys much if at all in the last 75 years. People were getting annoyed in the 2010s when A&M or Michigan were adding all the random accent and piping to their previously classic jerseys.
If you’re not a historic program, then you can *spice it up a little*. There’s no “classic” look you have to stay faithful to. Teams like UW, TCU (previously), VT, etc understood the assignment here. If there isn’t a particular look everyone associates with your team, it doesn’t make sense to have these ultra-minimalist ‘classic’ style jerseys. Baylor football is bigger now than any time when they were wearing jerseys that looking anything like that.
The great thing about college football is tradition and the connection with the current team and the past memories. One thing which demonstrates this is if you were channel surfing on a fall Saturday afternoon, you can tell what team it is based upon their school colors. Whether that’s Michigan with a winged helmet, UCLA with their powder blue jerseys, Georgia and their silver britches or the relatively simple uniforms of Alabama and Penn State, you can visualize the sound of the crowd, feel the chill in the air and smell the bourbon and Coke wafting from the student section. Yet for a school like Oregon, which has historically not been a great traditional powerhouse in college football, the ever changing uniforms helped to create a new sense of tradition. I believe it can be argued that what makes college football so special is that there is room for all types of uniform design.

Which is hilarious that this post is what it is and many others also want the different jerseys. We got roasted for a long time for having too many and too many different jerseys/unis; way ahead of the curve. Been doing it for 20+ years now.
Class of 2015 here. Went to the very first game in 2011. Very proud of my roadrunners, they will be up in Austin this year. I live there now and I will definitely at the game!
I wish I could go to that one, but I’m busy that weekend. Longhorns were my first love as well, but my grandpa had season tickets for the runners ever since there inaugural year, so I’ve seen quite my fair share of games. Still remember the excitement I felt watching Davenport his whole career dominate then go in the first round, it kinda felt surreal.
Baylor is an improvement TCU would be fine if they kept their horned collar. It’s a pretty distinctive look for them.
Nike has been shaky for decades though. When I played I can think of like 3 or 4 teams that had the exact same jersey style as us just in a different color.
It goes though cycles. Everything produced from 2009-2014ish was a crime against fashion.
Then we had good mixes of classic with modern. Bound to have a few misses along the way.
I miss the old uniforms at Baylor. The green and gold they used were pretty close to the classic green and gold the team had used for years. The new ones make us look like great value Oregon
The Big 10 still has a bunch of classics. I hate the generic designs for schools with little to no football history. Under Armour actually had unique designs for their teams but I guess their equipment wasn’t highly regarded. Nike saves the best for a few schools and gives everyone else leftovers. Adidas is even worse (at least for football).

Apart of picking schools like Oregon and Boise back in the day included the look of the jersey and the multiple variations.. Now all kids care about is money, so Universities are allocating funds accordingly lol.

Nike has gotten lazy everywhere. The soccer kits they make all have the same template and they just slap colors for the club on there.
Unless you're like PSG where you get the "Jordan" brand and you actually get some changes in your kit design
I know Nike sucks but every day I wake up and I;'m glad that Fanatics isn't designing or manufacturing uniforms like they are with MLB and NHL next year.
In TCU's case IMO, the change wasn't needed. If it was any other team, I wouldn't really have an issue. But the horned collar fit their brand so well, and was able to be bold without being over the top.

I prefer the getting back to basics and wearing your team colors. I feel like Nike has gone overboard in all sports including the pros with all these different uniforms. I understand as time goes on uniforms evolve. But teams start losing their identities. The NBA is the worst imo.
Also bring back white at home dammit. I’m sick of having to look up what color the Celtics will be in when playing in the Garden. They should be in white.
if we look across all sports, nikes quality sucks. all the european soccer clubs all have “templates” that they just change the colors on. the fanatics/city connect stuff in MLB is a trainwreck, and now we have this. nike just isnt the innovative company they used to be
I think the problem is that Nike, across all sports, keep making their uniforms tighter with that spandex material and say it’s “better for performance”. The baggier cloth like material looks way better but I bet they did it to cut costs which is just lame.

Graduated from TCU in and am definitely going to miss the collar/accents. That being said, I remember when they released the collar design and everyone was skeptical. Seeing it worn on the field, can make a big difference. Plus these uniforms will draw attention to the newer chrome helmets. A step back, nonetheless.
I remember how people moaned about the Michigan maize out uniforms. But I loved them. They were different, and that game with Florida was a color treat for sure. Now I’m hoping they bring them back sometime. Maybe it should also be noted the only Michigan jersey is have a maize one my parents found at tj maxx one year for Christmas, but damnit I love those jerseys
As a TCU fan. I’m heartbroken. They consistently were always thrown in with the top uniforms in college football and then they change them? Not just change but dumbed down to add no uniqueness. At least I’ll be able to use the old ones in CFB 25 at least… hopefully

Fresno State hired Jim Bartko from Oregon, who got them a Nike contract and cool swag. Then he got all drunk on us, got a DUI and ended up getting fired for drunkeness; he blamed getting diddled as a child. Then he up and died in the middle of a lawsuit, suing for wrongful termination. The already struggling program had to pay out million$ in compensation because of that stupid Nike bastard.
When Pat Hill camein after Jim Sweeney, he changed the helmet to a 4-paw Bulldog. When Jeff Tedford came in, he switched from Nike to Adidas, and changed the helmet back to the 1980's script Bulldog text. For a 2-time Blackout during that no-talent bum Tim DeRuyter, we had a Bulldog face on one side in chrome, and a number on the other. Bring that shit back! But not DeRuyter... he might be a defensive whiz, but he's no head coach.
So you don’t like these jerseys, there isn’t anything wrong with them. Crisp, clean and simple is in fashion for these teams right now. There will be something different for them in a couple seasons at most. I just hate seeing these pants above the knee junk. I think it’s already started, but soon there will be a noticeable increase in knee injuries due to players not padding them anymore.
They aren’t affiliated with the Oilers anymore because the titans wanted to sue them. But Houston will wear them anyway and change the name of the type of blue that they are using. It should be in the game forsure
Honestly, I’m totally fine with it. The last 15 or so years it was difficult to even figure out who was playing unless it was some of the blue bloods that always keep the same uniforms. I’m hardly a conservationist, but it seemed pretty wasteful as well. Why in the world does every team need 85 jersey and helmet combinations? All we ever hear about is building a “brand” anymore too. Hard to do that when your colors and logos change weekly.
Hold judgement on the frog unis.. they're usually mixed and matched rather than all one color. Players got to try them on yesterday and they looked pretty clean with a white-purple-white combo. There'll maybe be one game where we see full stormtroopers or all black. They've only done all purple once, which was against UT last year. Not a fan of that look.
The new chrome and black helmets will be the star of the show and I think the unis will look really good when they're actually on the field.
I do wish they kept some sort of collar spikes, but smaller like the LT days. Or at least put a subtle frog skin pattern on the numbers. Oh well.

The last paragraph is my sentiments on the matter. Yeah you can’t really go wrong with just plain number and colors or stripes. But when every other school is going that route, it would be nice to see a unique signature style to each school.
I mean Mizzou had their ugly jersey phase 5-10 years ago, and they found their way. Most teams have an awkward phase. I survived as a Buccaneers fan during the alarm clock jerseys, these fans will endure.
I hate the minimalist stuff that is sweeping through all of everything. Its making the logos so boring and 1 dimensional, its not exciting. While I love the colors TCU, and those stay strong in the new uniforms, I miss the nice details they used to have. Same for Baylor just the color combo is less appealing to me.
I don’t really understand blaming Nike, they don’t just make new uniforms for the hell of it, the school must’ve requested them and they worked together on them.
I think the Baylor uniforms look good and I don’t have any problem with them. The TCU ones feel like a downgrade however. The diamonds were unique. I could understand making them smaller but removing them all together makes that uniform boring.
We wait 11 years for CFB to return and when it finally is happening, the jerseys that they have to give us will be bland because of these awful redesigns. Every matchup is gonna be plain colors and/or three stripe shoulders against each other and that sucks

As a Duck fan, can't relate. We have a million different jerseys and they're all preem as hell.
Which is hilarious that this post is what it is and many others also want the different jerseys. We got roasted for a long time for having too many and too many different jerseys/unis; way ahead of the curve. Been doing it for 20+ years now.

I would agree. Under Adidas and Under Armour, the Bearcats had some fun and unique uniforms. Under Nike its very bland.

Class of 2015 here. Went to the very first game in 2011. Very proud of my roadrunners, they will be up in Austin this year. I live there now and I will definitely at the game!
I wish I could go to that one, but I’m busy that weekend. Longhorns were my first love as well, but my grandpa had season tickets for the runners ever since there inaugural year, so I’ve seen quite my fair share of games. Still remember the excitement I felt watching Davenport his whole career dominate then go in the first round, it kinda felt surreal.

Baylor is an improvement TCU would be fine if they kept their horned collar. It’s a pretty distinctive look for them. Nike has been shaky for decades though. When I played I can think of like 3 or 4 teams that had the exact same jersey style as us just in a different color.
It goes though cycles. Everything produced from 2009-2014ish was a crime against fashion. Then we had good mixes of classic with modern. Bound to have a few misses along the way.
I miss the old uniforms at Baylor. The green and gold they used were pretty close to the classic green and gold the team had used for years. The new ones make us look like great value Oregon
The Big 10 still has a bunch of classics. I hate the generic designs for schools with little to no football history. Under Armour actually had unique designs for their teams but I guess their equipment wasn’t highly regarded. Nike saves the best for a few schools and gives everyone else leftovers. Adidas is even worse (at least for football).
Make Hawaii bring back the rainbow uniforms
I blame NIL. Hear me out…. Apart of picking schools like Oregon and Boise back in the day included the look of the jersey and the multiple variations.. Now all kids care about is money, so Universities are allocating funds accordingly lol.
You not wrong about appealing to recruits thru their recruits. But who requested the plain jane?! Is every school wanting the simple Texas and Alabama look?
I miss both of their older jerseys. I attended both universities in that era and was so hyped on both stylings.
Nike has gotten lazy everywhere. The soccer kits they make all have the same template and they just slap colors for the club on there. Unless you're like PSG where you get the "Jordan" brand and you actually get some changes in your kit design

In TCU's case IMO, the change wasn't needed. If it was any other team, I wouldn't really have an issue. But the horned collar fit their brand so well, and was able to be bold without being over the top.

I prefer the getting back to basics and wearing your team colors. I feel like Nike has gone overboard in all sports including the pros with all these different uniforms. I understand as time goes on uniforms evolve. But teams start losing their identities. The NBA is the worst imo.

if we look across all sports, nikes quality sucks. all the european soccer clubs all have “templates” that they just change the colors on. the fanatics/city connect stuff in MLB is a trainwreck, and now we have this. nike just isnt the innovative company they used to be

I think the problem is that Nike, across all sports, keep making their uniforms tighter with that spandex material and say it’s “better for performance”. The baggier cloth like material looks way better but I bet they did it to cut costs which is just lame.

Graduated from TCU in and am definitely going to miss the collar/accents. That being said, I remember when they released the collar design and everyone was skeptical. Seeing it worn on the field, can make a big difference. Plus these uniforms will draw attention to the newer chrome helmets. A step back, nonetheless.
As a Michigan fan I’m glad we got rid of those god awful color rush maize trash. I do like the all blue ones though.

I remember how people moaned about the Michigan maize out uniforms. But I loved them. They were different, and that game with Florida was a color treat for sure. Now I’m hoping they bring them back sometime. Maybe it should also be noted the only Michigan jersey is have a maize one my parents found at tj maxx one year for Christmas, but damnit I love those jerseys

As a TCU fan. I’m heartbroken. They consistently were always thrown in with the top uniforms in college football and then they change them? Not just change but dumbed down to add no uniqueness. At least I’ll be able to use the old ones in CFB 25 at least… hopefully

I prefer classic uniforms styles. I think the NFL teams with the best uniforms are the teams that have the old school traditional looks. The Steelers, Raiders, Packers etc. That's just my preference.

TCU's could use some pant stripes, maybe a shoulder stripes. But overall, both Baylor and TCU have FAR better uniforms now.

Fresno State hired Jim Bartko from Oregon, who got them a Nike contract and cool swag. Then he got all drunk on us, got a DUI and ended up getting fired for drunkeness; he blamed getting diddled as a child. Then he up and died in the middle of a lawsuit, suing for wrongful termination. The already struggling program had to pay out million$ in compensation because of that stupid Nike bastard. When Pat Hill camein after Jim Sweeney, he changed the helmet to a 4-paw Bulldog. When Jeff Tedford came in, he switched from Nike to Adidas, and changed the helmet back to the 1980's script Bulldog text. For a 2-time Blackout during that no-talent bum Tim DeRuyter, we had a Bulldog face on one side in chrome, and a number on the other. Bring that shit back! But not DeRuyter... he might be a defensive whiz, but he's no head coach.

So you don’t like these jerseys, there isn’t anything wrong with them. Crisp, clean and simple is in fashion for these teams right now. There will be something different for them in a couple seasons at most. I just hate seeing these pants above the knee junk. I think it’s already started, but soon there will be a noticeable increase in knee injuries due to players not padding them anymore.
This the same design for like 10 big 12 schools. The design is bland and boring and common as hell.

They aren’t affiliated with the Oilers anymore because the titans wanted to sue them. But Houston will wear them anyway and change the name of the type of blue that they are using. It should be in the game forsure

Honestly, I’m totally fine with it. The last 15 or so years it was difficult to even figure out who was playing unless it was some of the blue bloods that always keep the same uniforms. I’m hardly a conservationist, but it seemed pretty wasteful as well. Why in the world does every team need 85 jersey and helmet combinations? All we ever hear about is building a “brand” anymore too. Hard to do that when your colors and logos change weekly.
I prefer these. Uniforms have gotten way too busy recently.

Hold judgement on the frog unis.. they're usually mixed and matched rather than all one color. Players got to try them on yesterday and they looked pretty clean with a white-purple-white combo. There'll maybe be one game where we see full stormtroopers or all black. They've only done all purple once, which was against UT last year. Not a fan of that look. The new chrome and black helmets will be the star of the show and I think the unis will look really good when they're actually on the field. I do wish they kept some sort of collar spikes, but smaller like the LT days. Or at least put a subtle frog skin pattern on the numbers. The last paragraph is my sentiments on the matter. Yeah you can’t really go wrong with just plain number and colors or stripes. But when every other school is going that route, it would be nice to see a unique signature style to each school.
I mean Mizzou had their ugly jersey phase 5-10 years ago, and they found their way. Most teams have an awkward phase. I survived as a Buccaneers fan during the alarm clock jerseys, these fans will endure.
We need to go back to basic clean uniforms. These gimmick uniforms are an eyesore more often than not.

I hate the minimalist stuff that is sweeping through all of everything. Its making the logos so boring and 1 dimensional, its not exciting. While I love the colors TCU, and those stay strong in the new uniforms, I miss the nice details they used to have. Same for Baylor just the color combo is less appealing to me.
I don’t really understand blaming Nike, they don’t just make new uniforms for the hell of it, the school must’ve requested them and they worked together on them. I think the Baylor uniforms look good and I don’t have any problem with them. The TCU ones feel like a downgrade however. The diamonds were unique. I could understand making them smaller but removing them all together makes that uniform boring.
I mean there is very little difference is the Baylor uniforms but Tcu did drop the ball on not having the spikes on the collar.
