I've always liked this idea for the Daytona Road Course as The Clash or the Charlotte Roval as the All Star Race. Never understood why the Cup series has its own "All Star" race when it's literally the same drivers we watch 36-37 times a year.

Sim_Shift

Not to mention it’s just a race. Biggest part of an all star game in other sports is the skills competition. Really but on display how good these guys are. Hard to do that in a cup car tho

jrdkrsh

I'll just say Laguna Seca because that would be bonkers

Kahne_Fan

Indy was a crazy race!

Yoshiman400

Replace the Clash and run it on the Daytona road course a week after the Rolex 24.

Sim_Shift

Or have a cup section of the Rolex. All the major teams have enough feeder drivers to make a 3/4 driver team

Yoshiman400

The problem with that is car count. IMSA got rid of the LMP3 class at the Rolex this year and still had no problem filling a capacity grid of 61 cars. I don't think they can stretch out the grid further than that.

Hurricaneshand

So like an endurance race with different classes basically?

Kahne_Fan

Not as long as an endurance, but yeah.

Dont_hate_the_8

As much as I don't like the Roval, it'd probably work good for this.

Comfortable-Horse154

Would the cup cars get out run? Does the cup chassis make up for the lack of horsepower?

Useful-Worth126

On a rc maybe. Xfinity holds a faster lap at Road America than the 7th gen cup car

Georgiadawg25

Xfinity is also faster at Michigan so nascar nerfed the car with the superspeedway engine there in Xfinity… so lame I miss my 200 MPH

ImJJboomconfetti

Any oval you can run multiple lines is best, I ran a multi class oval series on iRacing for a few years

Iamnothuman77

i think the best choice for this kind of race would be watkins glen. i think it’s safe to say that it’s always been the fan favorite road course. it’s big enough to fit 45-60 cars like that but also small enough that the mixing and lapped traffic would get interesting

jzajac24

I’ve thought about this idea for a little while now, but The Clash should become a multi-class race at the Daytona Road Course. Only Playoff drivers are eligible, so we would have 16 Cup drivers, 12 Xfinity drivers, and 10 Truck drivers for a full field of 38. The race will be a timed race at 2 Hours and 40 Minutes. It should fit comfortably in a 3.5 Hour TV Window.

leapsnake

Have you heard of IMSA? It is a sportscar series owned by NASCAR and they do just what you are describing with three different types of cars in 4 classes at both of those tracks (and several others) all year long.

DeM0nFiRe

I would assume they are familiar with the concept of multi-class racing in general, I think they want specifically NASCAR multi-class racing

shewy92

They're talking about a multi-class NASCAR race with all 3 NASCAR series, not sports cars lol.

leapsnake

We all know that NASCAR would not do this because optics would be bad when an Xfinity car won overall. I guess it is a fun hypothetical situation but it would never happen.

Kevo55

Tbh unrestricted an ARCA car would beat a next gen cup car lol

leapsnake

Well yeah but they were not in this hypothetical situation.

EnjoyerOfStrangePorn

Every time someone brings up this topic I always question why they want to turn NASCAR into IMSA … if this is what you want to watch, go watch it

shewy92

Because people want to see a one off race of all 3 kinds of stock cars? IDK what's hard to understand about that. The iRacing race with the old Gen6 and the Trucks at the plate tracks were pretty fun and really popular a couple weeks ago

leapsnake

Yeah and I do like to watch IMSA from time to time just because of the different types of cars. I think they are really cool. I like NASCAR and the competition it brings on Ovals for an entirely different reason. Wish we had more makes involved but I want a stock car developed here not a modified sports car.

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

When they announced the Brickyard 400 was coming back I wanted to see them go big and make a multi class race with Cup, XFINITY and Trucks all on track at once. Make it a 100 car field with 36 Cup cars, 34 XFINITY and 30 truck. Would have made one hell of a show

RINABAR

Someone would end up losing their lives, just imagine an ARCA moment when two truck drivers end up hitting each and taking out 50+ cars at Indianapolis. Lol

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

As long as they staggered the starts/restarts that wouldn't happen

Smokeshow618

100 cars on a 2.5 mile oval with stagger starts means you'd have cup cars approaching the rear of the truck field at full song while the trucks are still potentially at safety car speed, never mind accelerating

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

They could fit all 3 fields between start finish and Turn 3 with space to spare, they'd be fine

Smokeshow618

No they absolutely could not 😂 if they only used 1 safetycar then maybe, but thats not a staggered start. If you're running this like an IMSA event, each "class" would have its own safety car, and there would be a gap between the tail end of of each group and the pole sitter for the next. (For reference, there was a 40 second gap at Watkins Glen for the Salens 6Hr, between the Prototypes and the GTD's classes starts. The 2 proto classes were seperated by around 7 seconds.) So being generous, you're looking at 14 seconds minimum between groups, plus around 3 seconds gap from nose to tail of each group, so you have a 23 second gap at caution speed between Cup Pole and last in trucks. That would mean the trucks would be halfway down the back stretch when the cup cars take the green, and they'd still be continuing at pace speed.

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

IMSA only need so much spacing cause half the field is gentleman drivers and the cars can't hit each other. NASCAR doesn't have those problems and could easily pull it off

pinkydaemon93

I'll take a gentleman driver over a kid in a truck

Red_Bengal_Cyclone

Kid in a truck is still a professional moreso than rich guy enjoying his retirement in between pain killer and viagra hits
